I always draft for catchers arm if I can help it. 1970 Munson or 1964 Roseburo's are my favorites for 80m leagues. Their offense is good, and defense is phenomenal.

An example of what Just4me was referring to, in an OL we're in together, another team has thrown out 36% of baserunners. 82 of 228. That's a great %, but means he's still allowed 146SB.

My team has Roseburo's A++ arm, and he's catching base stealers at a 44% clip. He's caught 28 of 64, which means he's only allowed 36SB. That's 110SB difference in 90 games.

While I don't know the exact stats and how many runs those base stealers led too, I'd rather pay a small premium for Roseburo's arm than allow 110 more SB with a B+ arm.

In another OL I'm in, Roseburo has caught 28/42 after 99 games, while the team with the B+ arm has caught 74/205.

Again, idk if it means anything, but I like my chances with a runner at 1B better than at 2B all day long

I don't think anyone's saying that a good arm is worthless. But I'd say that the SB strategy isn't that popular right now. So it doesn't matter as much in the playoffs.

If you're throwing out 30% you're breaking even. Running game is doing as much harm as good. That figure is actually lower for higher scoring teams. Anybody who runs with less than 70% success is giving you a gift.

Bill James did the math in one of the 1980s Baseball Abstracts. If you are successful about 75% of the time, you actually add runs. But the CS cost you 3 times what the SB gains you. The total attempts don't matter. Hold them to 70% and they're losing runs, as rbow says.

So...08 Walsh sucks.

140 mil...1-4, 5.24 ERA, 1.92 WHIP
Variable....0-4, 6.18 ERA, 1.68 WHIP

My 08 Walsh in the variable....... 2-4, 9.56 ERA, 2.09 WHIP
I guess I'd have to agree although I keep telling myself he'll eventually normalize to something a lot better and win some games for me.

Dick Tidrow threw a no-hitter in this morning's $80m league for me. Great job Dick!

Clayton Kershaw is overhyped. I followed the herd and use him now and then. Never get the results others claim.

In $100M, '07 Cobb (.359 AVG#) is batting .096.......
I drafted him to bat 4th or 5th.

My $80M team is killing me. They're finding every conceivable way to lose right now. They just lost 1-0 on an unearned run. It's early, but my pitching staff (RL 1.08 WHIP, 2.86 ERA) has a 1.18 WHIP and 4.98 ERA in our home games at Dodger Stadium. In a low cap league. Makes zero sense.

all six of my teams either have either have six wins seven wins or eight wins. A whole bunch of mediocrity. And that just is not going to cut it.

I really regret completely overhauling my Variable Cap team. I had maximized the salary, but re-did it once I heard other people didn’t mind losing $10+ million to field their team. Now I’m on a 5-game losing streak, fatigued beyond all hell, and it’s the only losing team I have. Here’s to hoping Silver King can provide a couple consecutive complete games.

how's everyone doing for pitching fatigue in the variable cap league? I'm generally pretty aggressive with minimizing innings but a very high cap DH league scared me up to 1560 IP and even then I picked a pitcher's park. Saw some really low IP totals for that one in the write-ups, made me feel I was being too conservative.

I am suddenly forced to start my mopup pitcher because my spot starters all got used in relief recently and my big horses need a day or two. A good argument for making sure at least some of your relievers can spot start.
