This is your chance to pimp your stud pick steal in the 7th round! Or you want to call out someone for stealing your guy you wanted. Or ***** about the speed of the draft. Or give someone else props for a really good pick...or WHATEVER!

If anyone would like to volunteer to do some evals as we go, that would be awesome too!

My takes:

Interesting first round picks--pex grabbing Dr J before Artis or McAdoo was interesting. Not saying it is a bad pick in any way. Just seems like both big men might be more valuable in this format, and usually get drafted either around the same time as Erving in DH555's $52 mill league. But pex is DA MAN and usually makes better decisions than I do, so I am NOT criticizing it at all. Just found it interesting.

BOTH of skypilots 1st round picks seemed like a bit of a reach to me. Barnes has great numbers, as does Parish, but it seems like historically, they are both later 1st round picks or even 2nd rounders. Then again, if 6544 REALLY liked both, I doubt either would be there for him on the way back in round 2.

I know from past drafts that smokey has a pretty strong case of "man love" for George McGiness, but I would be surprised if he could NOT have gotten him in round 2 or maybe even round 3, because of the turnovers and fairly low eFG for his usage.

Bill Walton is a tough call in any league. He only plays about 2300 minutes in his best season, but when he does play, he has some MONSTER #'s. Still, I had the 10th pick and would not have even considered Big Red with that pick, but he went one before to Uofa2. I have drafted Walton before and he is very frustrating to be sure. Having Walton on your team is kinda like when you are 7 or 8 years old, and you get a nice big ice cream cone, and you take about ten-20 licks and then it falls off the cone and onto the pavement. Just enough of a taste to know how good it is, but always ending up wanting more.

My final thought is about Norm Nixon. I always liked Norm Nixon. Good eFG, a few assists, decent defense. But I think he is overvalued in the 1st round. Nice player, but so many better options out there IMO. We'll see if Navy can make up for it with his hext few picks.

Anyone else have any thoughts so far?

I took a long look at Artis, but in the end I wanted Dr. J so I don't have to worry as much about usage later. Also, Dr J has a higher WAR at SG than Artis has at C. He's just so much better than the next available SG. But Artis was easily the next pick.

I think Walton is a good call since the limited minutes he does bring are quality. I try to draft quality over quantity because I can get quantity at any point in the draft.

I thought the absolute steals of the draft so far are Bob Lanier at 14 to gerry and Bobby Jones at 21 to bds. It couldn't have taken gerry more than 2 seconds to pick Lanier. If they follow those up with good 2nd round picks they are going to be strong contenders.

Yeah if I wasn't at work on a break with no proxy list sent and not wanting to hold up the draft for four hours, I probably would've taken Lanier over Lucas.

I thought Tom Boerwinkle by trey was the steal of round 2. Several teams to watch now.

Artis is the right pick at 5 but as mentioned, now I'm immediately looking for usage. Settling for Goodrich but was looking for a usage guy who can do more things.

I really like those 4, bds. 2 good passing bigs (one of them being one of the best defenders in his era) and Freddie supporting Skywalker as your no1 scorer. Interested to see what your next few picks are.

I'm pretty happy so far with Clyde, Jumping Johnny and Elgin (short-minutes) starting, and Roger A Brown getting starter's minutes off the bench. Not sure how the record will turn out, but I think it would've been like bds' team would've been; fun as hell to watch IRL.

On a nickname note, I like what Gilmore given as a moniker when he started getting older/slower: Rigor Artis (a play on rigor mortis).

I really wanted Silas to fall to my next pick. Wishful thinking

Glad everyone is happy so far! I feel like George Flyod....wrong place, wrong time. Missed out on Thompson & Westphal. Settled for Brian Taylor. Wanted Lucas and Green....got stuck with Sidney Wicks. The last two rounds, my top guy on my proxy list went first that day. Let's see if soxyanks12 continues the trend today lol.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 71-72 C 29.1 57.6 12.2 21.9 10.7 73 44

Feeling Pretty good about my start so far if I can some how get another efficient scorer, a passer, and another rebounder off the bench I think I'll have a contender. But having Kareem always helps with that ;)

My team is...this is not the type of team I normally run. I like it, but this is definitely different for me.

Kevin Porter: 19.4 USG%, 51.4 eFG%, weak boards, 38.3 AST%, 36 DEF

Walter Davis: 29 USG%, 59.6 eFG%, average boards, 14.3 AST%, 48 DEF

Garfield Heard: 19.8 USG%, 44.3 eFG%, 9.2 ORB%, 21.5 DRB%, 100 DEF

Alvan Adams: 24.1 USG%, 55.2 eFG%, 10 ORB%, 21.1 DRB%, 15.7 AST%, 38 DEF

Moses Malone: 23.4 USG%, 54.7 eFG%, 18.2 ORB%, 26.1 DEB%, 80 DEF

Starting 5 has:

over 75% assist% (should give a nice eFG% bump)
53 eFG%
223 3PM (decent for 70s)
44.3 ORB%
84.6 DRB%
tons of steals and blocks
tons of TOs and fouls
3 HORRIBLE defenders, 1 elite defender & 1 good defender

This team reminds me of a Phoenix Suns team for sure.

I'm still learning, but really enjoy basketball. I wish the game was more robust like baseball, but building teams and drafting is really fun.

Curious to hear some of the more established & successful vets' opinions of my starting 5:

PG - Oscar Robertson (70-71), 39 mpg, 20.1% usg, 52.7 efg, 3.5/9.2 reb, 20.8 ast, 69 def
SG - Rick Barry (74-75), 39.5 mpg, 31.1 usg, 48.7 efg, 2.6/10.7 reb, 16.2 ast, 74 def
SF - Lonnie Shelton (77-78), 28.3 mpg, 21.8 usg, 53.0 efg, 8.8/15.9 reb, 8.8 ast,70 def
PF - Bill Bridges (69-70), 39.9 mpg, 15.7 usg, 49.4 efg, 10.4/23.2 reb, 10.9 ast, 80 def
C - Darnell Hillman (73-74), 27.6 mpg, 15.7 usg, 50.1 efg, 8.0/18.8 reb, 4.7 ast, 95 def

Bench
G - James McElroy (78-79), 32.9 mpg, 21.0 usg, 51.7 efg, 2.2/5.4 reb, 18.8 ast, 70 def

More established than successful, but I'll say this. O is a nice 1st pick from your spot in the draft but would go with the 61-2 or 62-3 season. I think you have the right Barry. Don't understand the Hillman pick. D obviously great but not enough usage up front and barely enough on the team (12 usg points). Need more offense at center and Bridges, a nice defender and rebounder, can cover for whatever D he lacks. Shelton has good efg% but he's a foul machine. I see what you're trying to do on D but I think it's costing you in too many other areas. The good news. Still plenty of players out there to continue to build.
