Also, I think that alone isn't enough to base any conclusions on. For example, I took modern day pitchers, but I also took a bunch of hitters from the 1800's, so although my fielding percentage is slightly below the league average, it's probably way better than what would be expected given their real life error totals.

For example, Tom Daly, Denny Lyons & George Gore committed 69, 97 and 38 errors, respectively (in real life). Through 80 sim games, they have committed 25, 16 and 7, respectively. But without this information, it would appear my team is "below average" in errors despite using a modern pitching staff.

Also, for what it's worth... the last time I counted, my opponents have committed 10 more errors than I have. (There's not an easy way to tally this, other than going through every single boxscore). This means my selection of all those pre-1900 hitters is inducing more errors for my opponents.

This was also something I planned for when drafting my team... I chose as many deadball hitters as possible to try to create more errors for my opponents... I have tallied my differences, but this was part of my thought my process.

I chose deadballer hitters because I knew my modern pitchers would improve their defense more than they would for modern D-rated fielders.

I have 4 pre-1900 hitters in my regular lineup. Same thought process as the others.

Posted in our league chat, still the thing I’d be most curious in seeing the data from:

“5 teams have Herman Long 1896 as their SS. The 2 teams with staffs from 1900 have Long averaging 68 errors (so far). The 3 modern staffs average 38 Long errors. I knew this would play a role, but man I didn't expect it to be this extreme...”

I’d love to see defense numbers for individual players averaged within their respected eras

I found similar results with players in my league.

Hub Collins, SS
Modern Era pitchers: 65 errors
Old-time pitchers: 77, 92 errors

Dave Bancroft, SS
Modern Era pitchers: 42, 46 errors
Old-time pitchers: 72, 75, 77 errors

Most of my position players are guys from the late 1800's. But since I am using modern pitchers. I am currently ranked 12th in fielding percentage (slightly better than league average).

Also, I just went through all my boxscores. My opponents have committed 51 more errors than I have. I'd say my strategy worked out as I expected it to.
