This lonely AL East is about to be full of some really rough characters. I'm wondering what I did to **** gsp off...

Wow.... I was looking at the rankings to see where people finished in previous tournaments. jfranco76 is on a run of 7th, 6th, 5th, 3rd. How did I not notice that? And how was he pre-ranked only12th? Please don't put him in the AL Central.

Yeah, his case is why I want to reduce the importance of old tournament finishes and boost more recent ones.

jfranco77 and I are the only two people to finish in the Top 10 each of the last four years. And we may end up in the same division here.

jfranco77 - AL Central

mensu - AL East

meaning ozomatli can only go in the AL East so the draft is over

Of seeds 15-24, only one (Jtpsops) is in the AL. There's a chance that seeds 2-9 all end up in the AL.
Although this is a true statement, we all know that brianjw is not the 15th best owner. discodemo at 13th is also underrated. Also, mildnhazy & mjkrunner have top 5 finishes in previous tournament(s). Will the AL win more games the the NL in aggregate, maybe.... but I think the difference between the leagues is not as pronounced as everybody seems to think.

Of the top 24 pre-ranked owners, there are 7 in each.

NL: 1, 3, 6, 13, 14, 17, 23
AL: 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 12, 19

Yes, AL is a little stronger.

the begging is remarkably undignified from people with a legitimate claim as the best owner on the site

embrace the challenge!

Oh, you know I'm going to bring it! Doesn't matter to me who I'm up against.

Just having fun :)

Since I'm not participating, I've been advising Justin and our discussion of strategy of selections in this draft for the past few days and I can't believe how things played out.

I know I'd rather *not* be in Jtpops position right now

Taking a look at the first round, mensu is the only one of the three I played, and even then we were only in two leagues together. I was 9-10 vs him, but did knock him out of the playoffs in one league.

In short: all three should be scared. VERY scared.

Great, schwarze again. It feels like he’s always in my division.

We were in two divisions together in round 1. Ironically, these are the two divisions where I had the most frustrating finishes. In the 80M theme, you finished in 2nd place, one game ahead my third place 94-win team, which turned out to be the team with the best record to miss the playoffs. In the Variable Cap league, your team got the wildcard with 98 wins, which was a mere 17 games behind my 115-win juggernaut that ultimately lost to an 80-82 team in the first round.

For those keeping score at home, that's 1 playoff bonus point for two teams that combined for 209 wins.

Not a good omen for my 120M Round 2 team.

I really think this pre-rank analysis sells the reality a bit short.

For example, 06gsp is #2 in the standings but he is #58 by pre-rank. Raise your hand if you think 06gsp is anywhere near the #58th owner in WISC...

As you've pointed out yourself, there are other owners like jfranco77 who are significantly underrated by pre-rank.

Naturally, there are also big problems with just taking the current standings as reflective of the true ability of an owner (see brianjw).

I decided to compromise and use a composite (50% standings and 50% pre-rank). The results are below...

EDIT: actually after a bit more thinking, it makes more sense to make sure that the pre-rank #s should also be 1-24, just like the standings.

Doing this, ranking the remaining owners by pre-rank...
  1. brianjw
  2. discodemo
  3. ozomatli
  4. skunk206
  5. mjkrunner
  6. milest
  7. schwarze
  8. mensu1954
  9. jfranco77
  10. mildnhazy
  11. dougpalm
  12. justinlee_24
  13. doctorcc
  14. PennQuaker
  15. wink0094
  16. pkearns
  17. marinerrott
  18. tigerrott
  19. ejstockman
  20. d_rock97
  21. thehuseman
  22. beauchamp
  23. 06gsp
  24. Jtspops

NL East:

Pre-rank Order: #1, #5, #10, #14 (Avg = 7.50)
Standings: #15, #17, #10, #24 (Avg = 16.50)
Composite: Avg = 12.00

NL Central:

Pre-rank Order: #12, #18, #20, #22 (Avg = 18.00)
Standings: #1, #18, #21, #23 (Avg = 15.75)
Composite: Avg = 16.88

NL West:

Pre-rank Order: #2, #11, #17, #21 (Avg = 12.75)
Standings: #13, #16, #19, #22 (Avg = 17.50)
Composite: Avg = 15.13

NL Composite Avg = 14.67

AL East:

Pre-rank Order: #3, #8, #23, #24 (Avg = 14.50)
Standings: #5, #6, #2, #20 (Avg = 8.25)
Composite: Avg = 11.38

AL Central:

Pre-rank Order: #7, #9, #15, #19 (Avg = 12.50)
Standings: #8, #3, #12, #7 (Avg = 7.50)
Composite: Avg = 10.00

AL West:

Pre-rank Order: #4, #6, #13, #16 (Avg = 9.75)
Standings: #9, #4, #11, #14 (Avg = 9.50)
Composite: Avg = 9.63

AL Composite Avg = 10.33

The big takeaway? That the AL Composite Avg in all 3 of its divisions is tougher than the NL Composite Avg for the entire conference. Even if difficulty was 100% done by pre-rank though, the AL would still wind up being more difficult than the NL.

Can someone please tell me who is in my division so I can name my team? This seems to say that schwarze would be, but I was told that's incorrect.

You're getting the two leagues confused. The "naming your team after somebody in your division" rule is for the other league, where we are aligned based on round 1 final standings.... For this league, your name is the draft number you were selected.
