Screw Your Neighbor League: MLB130193

All these leagues seem the same to me...let's do something completely different.

The premise: Build the worst team you can (within certain restrictions) and another owner will be randomly assigned to manage your team and try to scrape out as many wins as possible with your dumpster fire. Beware, however, for turnabout is fair play. You will be assigned someone else’s steaming pile and have to figure out how to win with it.

To make sure every team has at least some chance of being competitive, here are the restrictions:

• Your team’s total salary must be between $78-80 million
• No players with a salary over $15 million. Be more creative than drafting John Clarkson and a bunch of scrubs.
• You must draft at least 1400 IP and 5400 PA. This is a challenge of managing a terrible roster, not a fatigue slog.
• For each position, you must draft at least one player with at least 500 PA who has a defensive rating at that position. This does not mean one player that has 500 PA and is rated at all the positions – it means 8 players rated at 8 positions.

We’ll have a standard 24 team league with an $80 million cap. There will be no DH, no AAA, and no waiver wire. Clones are OK, and trades are allowed, as part of the fun of the league could be the “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” technique that could keep things interesting through the season, and allow a shrewd manager a chance to overcome even the worst roster. There are lots of different strategies for this type of league, so be creative.

Players from all eras are acceptable, as are all ballparks. Name your team something terrible, but please keep it PG—be creative and silly rather than raunchy or offensive with your names. I reserve the right to ask you to rename your team. WIS needs to gain new members, not upset current ones.

Feel free to ask questions about the rules or restrictions. With a good reason and popular support, I’m not opposed to tweaking the rules.

True, but it must be a different season. I think it could be funny to see several instances of the same terrible player.

How are you planning to get the teams entered? If I enter a team in the league, there's no way to assign it to anyone else.

Great question regarding entering the team. You enter your team as you usually would, and there's a function built in to the league creator that will automatically assign teams to a random owner once the league is filled.

Yes, it's time you try it. Thanks for joining. It's been years since I've done one. I've been watching for another SYN league to pop up and finally decided to make it happen myself. It provides quite a different feel than other leagues.
