HR Bounty Tracking (3 bounties) Topic

Starting a thread to track the HR Bounties separately from the main bounty thread. Figure it'll keep things less cluttered over there.

And as a reminder, I included my bests (so far during the my attempts for bounty #2) as the current leaders for #6 & #7 for a frame of reference to target.

SimBaseball Bounty Two -- The One About HRs:
For this bounty you will need to win 90+ games while having your team have either 800 HRs (hit+allowed) or by hitting 450 more HRs than you allow. For this bounty, there may be some elements of luck depending on divisional and league setup and ballparks, etc... but how you decide to chase this is up to you. You want to go for hitting 450 HRs without allowing any, or go for a split where you hit and allow 400... up to you.

I'm entering one to start with with a goal to hit 450 and give up 350 while still winning 90 or more games.

To get an idea where I got these numbers from, I save every league I've ever played in a spreadsheet with full team stats, ballpark, etc... I had one team where I hit 500 and gave up 800 (1300 total) that won just 65 games. I had one where I hit 375 and allowed 325 (700 total) while winning 100 games. I had one where I hit 525 and allowed 700 (1225 total) and won 82. I had one that hit 500 and allowed 200 (700 total) and won 94. And in the end I both felt 800 seemed easy and very difficult, so that seemed right. On the other side, hitting 500 without allowing any on its own seemed easy, but to do that while winning 90 games, that seemed much more challenging giving the salary required for each element.

Hopefully this will be as challenging as I imagine, require a little league alignment and/or general luck, but should bring some unique strategies and fun to these leagues at the very least.

SimBaseball Bounty Six -- HR Double Down:

The HR bounty still hasn't been approached in any meaningful way, so I wanted to double down on that bounty. These next two bounties will both approach the current and still active HR bounty individually, but in the same way as the SB and error bounties. This will be awarded to the one who reaches the highest score between now and the end of the year (with games ending on 9/30/21 PM2 cycle). This one will be a guaranteed winner to the one who achieves the most net HRs (Home Runs hit minus Home Runs allowed) as a team during this time frame for a team that wins at least 90 games.

I'll keep a tally of the leader right here in this box for easy reference.

Winner:
crazystengel: 406 (440 hit, 34 allowed), 94 wins

SimBaseball Bounty Seven -- HR Triple Down:

The HR bounty still hasn't been approached in any meaningful way, so I wanted to triple down on that bounty. These two bounties going live today will both approach the current and still active HR bounty individually, but in the same way as the SB and error bounties. This will be awarded to the one who reaches the highest score between now and the end of the year (with games ending on 6/30/21 PM2 cycle). This one will be a guaranteed winner to the one who achieves the most Home Runs (Home Runs hit plus Home Runs allowed) as a team during this time frame for a team that wins at least 90 games.

I'll keep a tally of the leader right here in this box for easy reference.

Winner:
Chargingryno: 600 HR (430 hit + 170 allowed), 95 Wins

I'm taking a run at #2, but man, it's tough. Thru 10 games we've hit 27 and allowed 3 -- which looks pretty good! -- but when I whipped out the calculator I discovered it's not nearly enough. We're on pace for 437 HR hit, 49 HR allowed for a net of 388.

The team's winning, at least (8-2).

Another owner just had a league finish going for #2, same offense they had in a prior league that hit 500+ HR. Finished in first with more than double the HRs of 2nd place in a league where only 3 teams hit more than 100 HR. Unfortunately, they only hit 327. They only gave up a league best 34, but they also fell just short of the wins mark. It sounded like they planned to run that exact team again hoping for better luck amongst their competitors pitchers and ballparks.

I'm in a league with three others that are/were all going for one of these bounties. Two teams looked like they were both well on pace for bounty 7, but one team is changing things up, so it looks like the other will likely run away with one that for now. I was passively going for the differential on #2, but was mostly just hoping to hit as many HR as possible while winning the 90+. I am roughly tracking for 300 HR, but last I looked (after the PM games today), my team was 8th on the top 25 with a .750 W% through 92 games (so, it is possible to build winning teams around HRs in Coors field). So, one of the four in that league will likely take the lead on #7, another looks close for the combined total on #2, but looks to be falling short on wins (same owner from the above), and the other just hit the WW and dropped HRs for pitching to stay winning, so might not hold onto bounty #7.

These have been more challenging than I anticipated, but I've had a ton of fun building teams to try to go for these bounties.

This is very tough. I’m the owner that hit the WW because it was going to be a stretch to get to 90 wins with how short on reasonable IP I was. I actually think it will only cost me 10-15 net hr because I dropped my worst performer and replaced with total scrubs who have a little pop. That said, every homer might count because I’m tracking for +384 after a big day today, which is just behind the lead. I got burned in a division with -hr parks and old time pitching, so I’ll certainly be back with another similar roster next time! +450 is doable but gonna be really tough.

for anybody else building a team for these bounties, my $ split is about 57/23 hitting/pitching, and even that will come miles short of the first bounty, and will be tough to qualify for the wins component. It’s a great challenge!

Just finished MLB128928

team finished with 95 wins and 600 total HR (430 hit, 170 given up).

believe that puts me in the lead for #7.

Well done, Sir...

Joe Gordon's top OL season 80+ HR, 300+ RBI in Coors

I’ll update leaderboard tomorrow... my own latest entry fell 113 HR short of ryno’s above, but this squad won 111 games (proving it’s possible to win with HR teams and in Coors):

I'm taking a run at #2, but man, it's tough. Thru 10 games we've hit 27 and allowed 3 -- which looks pretty good! -- but when I whipped out the calculator I discovered it's not nearly enough. We're on pace for 437 HR hit, 49 HR allowed for a net of 388.

The team's winning, at least (8-2).
This team's not looking so hot at the all star break. We're 44-37 (so short of the 90 wins requirement), and we've hit 194 HR and allowed 26 -- on pace for a net of 336 HR. We're one game up on the wild card race, so that's one bright spot, at least.
3/1/2021 6:18 PM
My team hit 502 and allowed 121...but won 89 games. I had 5 guys over 60 (Cy Williams, Babe, Greenberg, Schmidt, Davey Johnson), a sixth if you count my Rudy York/Johnny Blanchard platoon, and a 7th if you count the Ralph Kiner who was on track for 60+. A division with 2 Ed Walshes, 3 Christy Mathewsons and three - HR parks didn't help.

I've already got my next one going, with considerably more pitching, because the last team was a disaster:
York + 3 low PA Cs platoon
Greenberg (everybody should be using the 6mm Hammerin Hank in this quest)
J Gordon (200k cheaper than Davey, who was hard to give up)
Vern Stephens
Schmidt
Babe (a different one)
Cy Williams
Kingman (ew, but needed the $ for pitching)
The division set up is better than last time, but the overall league doesn't have Coors all over the place, so it's probably a wash. Starting with a couple series in the Astrodome, and we're still off to an ok start.
3/2/2021 7:52 AM
Also, for the TOTAL homerun bounty - isn't it possible to throw 200k scrubs with no pitch limit for like 5 games, and just give up 100 homers? I'm going for the net bounty, and have no interest in trying something like that, but seems like a good way to hack it!

FINAL RESULT: We finished with 93 wins, but out of the playoffs. Had fun, though. We hit 420 HR and allowed 49 for a net of 371.

All 8 of our regulars made the Top 10 for HR:
