Guys, If you think the reason the game is shrinking is because new players don't understand AAA, I don't know what to tell you. The reason the game is shrinking is obvious. It's because you don't have an app and people can't play the game on a phone. Period. AAA is not the reason. It's 2021. Any game that is successful online now is playable on a phone.
You're going to fundamentally change a great game, with the thought that this change will attract and keep new players. I predict it will not. And in fact, I predict you will lose long time players. Possible including me. And many others. Foolish. Honestly, has ANY long time player told you they like this idea?
Yes, lots of long-term players have been expressing their approval. Many can be seen in the first several pages of this thread. People who have invested more dollars and years into this site than they'd care to admit--and have seen hundreds of newbies get frustrated and leave--believe this is a good idea.
You're absolutely right about the need for an app and mobile support. That is not lost on the management here. It's simply that it's a monumental task, and they want to do it right. It will take some time. In the meantime, they're trying to make small changes to show that they are involved and interested in making the game better. The past several years, we've seen very little to make us believe management cared about the site, so this is encouraging to me. An you're also right that the AAA change won't make a major difference, but I believe in the long-term, it will be a net positive.
I don't follow why someone would leave the site over this change. If you prefer AAA, join one of the many theme league that are open leagues plus AAA. It's literally the same thing. Or, even better, join a progressive league. As much fun as an open-style league is, keeping and managing a roster over decades is much more engaging - and most of them allow AAA.
