Remembering RIP Christina Grimmie. Has it really been 5 years since she was senselessly taken away ? Whether live or a cover, still tough to get thru her ironic Whitney tribute.
So goodbye, please don't cry
Can't forget. Won't forget. My only YouTube 'sub' ever, years before being 'discovered'.

If you haven't already, try her studio version of Whitney's I Will Always Love You. Top 2-3 cover all-time of the classic, every nuance perfectly spot on. Of course, "so goodbye, please don't cry".

Similarly, in which her fans forever lose it, "In Christ Alone", with the haunting "till he returns, or calls me home . . . "

For a treat :

ICK!!

1st-off.
It isn't Whitney's I will always Love You. It's Dolly Parton's song.
2nd. Dolly sings it much better than Whitney.
3rd. I suspect you think that OVER singing is good. It's NOT!
Good singers accentuate the song, making the song the focus. Whitney (and many many others!!!) make themselves the focus, They warble, vary tempo and pitch, even alter the melody ALL to bring attention to themselves (or their Voice!).
That is NOT good singing IMO.

I give you Celine Dion as an example. This is a free country. You can listen to anything you want to, But you won't convince someone like me (who listens to all types of music for about 25 - 30 hours intensely every week.) that Celine Dion is a quality singer. She can sing sure, but I wouldn't waste 42 seconds of my life listening to what she "sings". Life is too short and she's just awful. Same with Whitney for the most part!

Must watch/listen to "Summer of Soul"

5th Dimension
Sly Family Stone
Staple Singers (wow! who knew)
Gladys Knight/Pips
Nina Simone (espousing revolution!!!)
Stevie Wonder
BB King
Moms Mabley (dont blink or you'll miss her; easily one of the funniest women ever)

This is a great window into NYC in 1969. Never got its due at the time. Questlove deservedly got an Oscar for this.

Great documentary, but terrible that Questlove had his big moment overshadowed by that slappy fool Will Smith.

Astrud Gilberto is one of my favorites:
My favorite album is A Certain Smile, A Certain Sadness. Also her albums with Stan Getz are essential music.

The Carly Simon song from the No Secrets album is a personal favorite album cover.
