That article is actually hilarious.

The author spends three paragraphs complaining about the claim that Jan 6 was "the deadliest attack on the capitol in two centuries." Essentially, he points out that five people died at the capitol (I'll ignore the phrase "Babbitt..... posed no immediate physical harm to him or anybody else," even though "immediate" is doing a LOT of heavy lifting there), then lists two terrorist attacks, one of which killed no one, and the other killed two. Last time I checked, 5>2>0. So immediately we're off to a bad start.

It's also very strange (read: transparent) that those who call the commission "partisan" completely ignore the fact that the Senate rejected a push to have a bipartisan, independent commission, which forced Pelosi to control it on her own.

Next, the author counters the claim that rioters planned on "overturning a democratic election," by arguing that they had no means to do so. No ****. That doesn't mean the intention wasn't there, or that it was less dangerous considering that it could happen again (but more organized this time). Then he says that Obama, Comey, and Mueller wanted to "overturn" the election (his quotes, not mine). Grade-A reach right there. Democrats are 2/2 on the truth so far.

Next, they say that the tear-jerking was hyperbole and incorrect. No, it couldn't have been the greatest attack on our democracy in 100 years, because congresspeople were more in danger in a 1998 attack than on January 6 (debatable). This pivot is bad on two levels: it fails to prove that people in the capitol actually were not fearful for their lives, AND it fails to prove that it wasn't the worst attack on our democracy in 100 years! You would have to prove that the 1998 attack was more dangerous to democracy than thousands of crazy fascists storming the capitol to kill congresspeople and overturn the election. But wait, there's more. He then says that the Mueller investigation, which worked through the legal code of law, and the FBI holding rioters without bail are worse assaults on Democracy. Once again, colossal stretch there, but also, if you think holding people in jail for little to no crime is an assault on democracy, boy, do I got bad news for you. Actually, holding 1/6 rioters without bail is the greatest demonstration of "equality under the law" that you could find. Democrats still batting 1.000, Thornton 0/3

The author concludes the article by compalining about Democrats assaulting democracy because they apparently want to repeal the Constitution, "rights," and balance of powers; of course no specifics were mentioned, nor does he mention that Barr, Trump's former AG, doesn't believe in the separation of powers, or that it is in fact conservatives who pose a greater threat to individual rights and freedoms.

Finally, he urges Republicans to never compromise with Democrats on anything and unilaterally reject every Democratic bill unconditionally in a ploy to hopefully win the midterms. What a great sign for Democracy!!!!

There's nothing that makes me more confident in progressivism than reading conservative "think-pieces" and opinion columns. What a clown show.
(Slow clap) beautiful take down
How many hundreds of people have been arrested and are in prison awaiting trial for Jan 6?
How many have been sentenced?
How many more will be apprehended?

THIS TELLS ME THE SYSTEM WORKS....at least for one side.

What those who entered the Capital grounds did was ILLEGAL and they SHOULD be and WILL be and ARE being punished.
Justice is a wonderful thing...as long as it is blind and fair and the scales weigh equally for everyone.

I heard of a sentence that was past within the last few days. One of the "Mob" was on video entering the lobby with a flag. He stood there for a bit...turned around and left. He pled guilty and was sentenced for trespassing. The judge gave this man 8 months behind bars. The prosecutor wanted a year and a half. Justice has been served. The system works.....sometimes.

All over the country LIBERAL (democrat) D.A.s are turning violent criminals loose. Some go out and commit more crimes only to be released again. THAT IS NOT JUSTICE. The democrats are the ones who cry to DEFUND THE POLICE. Where are the arrests for those who burnt down police stations and committed countless acts of violence and destruction, including Washington D.C. ?

The Jan 6 crimes are being addressed swiftly and thoroughly as they should be.
We can't say the same for the crime going on in democrat controlled jurisdictions involving violent leftists.
There's nothing that makes me more confident in conservatism and justice and law and order returning in the next election than watching the circus in Washington that is the democrat party. What a clown show.

Biden overwhelmingly won the democratic primary on a position opposing defunding the police and actually investing more in policing, but we’ve been over that over and over again.

LET ME SHOW YOU HOW TO DO IT.

Republicans Propose Diverting Capitol Security Funds To Border Wall, Defunding House Metal Detectors

TOPLINE

House Republicans have proposed a series of no-shot amendments to Democrats’ $1.9 billion Capitol security funding billthat would divert funds to unrelated projects and wind down post-Jan. 6 security measures – a sign that the worsening partisan divide on Jan. 6 extends to ideas on how to prevent future attacks.

Rep. Bob Good (R-Va.) proposed amendments diverting $350 million for enhancements to the Capitol’s security infrastructure and emergency response and $2.7 million for Capitol Police roadblocks and riot gear to instead fund the U.S.-Mexico border wall.

Reps. Ted Budd (R-N.C.) and Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) also filed an amendment that would take the measure’s prohibition on permanent fencing a step further, prohibiting spending on metal detectors that were set up outside the House chamber.

Another amendment from Good would scrap a proposed $67 million reimbursement to Washington, D.C., for their Jan. 6 response, while Budd and Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-N.D.) proposed requiring pre-pandemic Capitol tours to resume before funds can be spent.

Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), who has used footage of the attack to downplay its severity, proposed suspending funding until Capitol security camera footage between Jan. 1 and 6 is released.

The amendments are all likely to fail given Democratic control of the House, but they highlight an attitude proliferating among Republican lawmakers that the Jan. 6 attack was overblown and that shoring up Capitol security against future threats is not a priority.

THERE YOU GO. DO YOU UNDERSTAND IT? SHOULD I EXPLAIN IT? OK.

IT'S PROPOSED MONEY. YOU CAN'T DEFUND WHAT WAS NEVER GIVEN.

My goodness. America IS being dumbed down.

Ah OK, so Doug is gonna claim that while Republicans WANTED to defund the police, they didn't, so that's OK.

Also I'd just like to point out that Doug is actually right on one thing - it is wrong to hold people in jail without bail for long periods of time. I'm for ending cash bail. The real victims of bail in America are poor people who get arrested for minor crimes that many didn't even commit and are forced to either accept a plea deal or take a shady loan that ***** them over in the long run to get out of jail.

In fact, people of color are FAR more likely to end up in jail without being able to make bail, which adds to the unnecessary incarceration of those communities.

Furthermore, states that end cash bail see negligent increase in violent crime attributed to the released. So there's really no reason to hold people, aside from the worst like murderers and rapists in some cases, in jail before trial.

I'm sure Doug and others will agree with me and the radical left democratic party that we need to end cash bail.

As for the left wing people, if they committed a crime, they'll get prosecuted. Thousands got arrested, remember? Remember the headlines of "thousands arrested during riots in DC" or something to that effect? Can Doug point me to a SPECIFIC example of this not being the case?

Did you know Washington DC is the most policed city in the world?

Did you know more money is expended in Washington DC than any other city in the world?

Did you know extra policing was requested for Jan 6 BUT the DEMOCRAT mayor rejected the plea and insisted on MINIMAL SECURITY?

Did you know Nancy Pelosi was asked to provide NATIONAL GUARD help forJan 6 BUT DENIED THE REQUEST?

Did you know NONE of the above facts will come out in the mock sham bogus charlatan fabricated phony pretend make-believe clown show democrats only picked investigation of jan 6 ?

Now ya do.

Which law enforcement agencies are responsible for Washington D.C.’s security?

Washington, District of Columbia (D.C.) is the capital of the United States. Often referred to as “Washington”, “D.C.”, or “The District”, it houses many federal government agencies and buildings, including the U.S. Capitol Building, the White House, the Supreme Court and the federal officials who work in them, including the President, members of Congress, Supreme Court Justices, and other appointed officials.

Despite having 700,000 residents — a greater population than Vermont and Wyoming — D.C. does not have statehood. This leaves the government structure under a unique mix of federal and local control. There are more than 10 law enforcement agencies that operate in Washington, D.C, each serving a different purpose.

Which law enforcement agencies in Washington D.C. are under local control?

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and the Department of General Services’ Protective Services Division (PSD) fall under local D.C. government control.

MPD’s 3,851 officers work under their Chief of Police and the Washington D.C. Mayor. Their jurisdiction covers 68 square miles and 700,000 D.C. residents. MPD is the closest equivalent to your local police department.

The PSD is tasked with the protection of D.C. municipal buildings and the people and resources within them. The PSD also assists both federal and municipal law enforcement in special events and criminal investigations.

Which law enforcement agencies in Washington D.C. are under federal control?

Numerous federal law enforcement agencies operate in Washington, D.C.

  1. The U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) has more than 2,000 officers who protect the buildings in the U.S. Capitol Complex and shareresponsibility for the land surrounding it with MPD, the local police. The Capitol Police Board and U.S. House and Senate Appropriations and Authorizing Committees jointly authorize and oversee the Capitol Police. Officer Eugene Goodman, who was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for saving numerous members of Congress in the Senate chamber from the rioters, is a Capitol Police officer.
  2. In charge of policing all National Parks across the country, the U.S. Park Police (USPP) are the law enforcement responsible for the Memorial Parks and National Mall. The National Mall is not a real mall; it’s the land stretching from the U.S. Capitol on the East, the Lincoln Memorial on the West, the White House on the North and the area around the Tidal Basin on the South. It includes several national monuments and memorials and borders several governmental buildings. In Washington, D.C. the 300 permanently stationed USPP Officers have the same powers and duties as the D.C. Metro Police. In fact, the USPP typically fulfills the role of “the frontline law enforcement agency during protests and demonstrations in the National Mall and outside the White House.”
  3. The U.S. Secret Service protects our nation’s highest elected leaders, visiting foreign heads of state, and national security events. This includes securing and protecting the buildings where these individuals are, such as the White House and the Capitol.
  4. The D.C. National Guard (DCNG) is the official “protector of the District of Columbia.” Every state, as well as four territories (D.C., Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands), has its own National Guard, which responds to domestic emergencies. Since D.C. is a territory rather than a state, the D.C. National Guard reports directly to the U.S. President. Other states’ National Guards report to their state Governors.
  5. The Federal Protective Services (FPS) is the uniformed police division of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. They protect the physical buildings and property of the federal government, including the Capitol building.
  6. The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) works to prevent domestic and international terrorism and espionage; protect civil rights; and combat public corruption, significant cybercriminal and transnational criminal operations, violent crime, and white-collar crime. The Attorney General and the Director of National Intelligence jointly oversee the FBI, which is headquartered in D.C. and has about 400 offices across the country and 60 more throughout the world. The FBI is investigating and pursuing individuals involved in what it is calling the “Capitol violence.”
  7. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF)works within the U.S. Department of Justice to protect the public from crimes related to the controlled substances and weapons included in the agency’s name. ATF is headquartered in Washington, DC with 25 offices across the country and 12 across the world. ATF agents were involved with the January 6th insurrection because many rioters were carrying firearms and some planted the pipe bombs placed around the Democratic and Republican party headquarters in D.C.
  8. The U.S. Marshals Service, the first federal law enforcement agency in the U.S., is a bureau within the U.S. Department of Justice that serves as the enforcement arm of the federal courts, including 94 U.S. District Courts and 12 circuits of the U.S. Court of Appeals. Marshals enforce decisions made by judges and justices in court decisions in addition to protecting the federal judicial process, including protecting federal judges, court officials, witnesses, jurors, the visiting public, and prisoners. For example, after the Supreme Court decision Brown v. Board of Education held that racial segregation in public schools was unconstitutional, U.S. Marshals protected Black students integrating into public schools. U.S. Marshals often support MPD and the Secret Service at large D.C. events, such as Inauguration Day.
