Capitol police officers Topic

Just watched the NYT video on the Capitol riot. The bravery of just a few capitol police officers to hold off a crowd of thousands for critical minutes likely saved the lives of numerous Senators and Representatives.

It was a closer call than even I knew beforehand.

Indeed. Every single person who breached the Capitol that day should be charged with treason. And the whiny orange cheetoh should be included.

There are numerous videos of police being pulled into the crowd, beaten, gassed, etc.

Don't ******* tell me the riot was "peaceful." They were there to overturn the election results. People in the crowd were calling for blood. We all know, deep down, what would have happened had they found a member of the government.

Article III, Section 3, Clause 1: Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

If we go down the road of calling a sitting POTUS an enemy of the United States it's worse for the concept of democracy/republicanism than the riot itself. There are plenty of reasonable charges that can be made without subverting the Constitution.

I'm really curious.. how much of Seattle and Portland do you think were affected by riots? Just give a percentage of the city that you think was burned down. Or a number of lawmakers in legitimate danger of being killed. Or the number of cops who died. Thanks!

I agree with this. Lock em up. But you probably can't get treason charges.

Realistically, though, don't we all know deep down that Trump not only wanted his supporters to storm the capitol, but was also reveling in the event when it happened? And don't we all also know that if the capitol police were even slightly less effective and a Representative or Senator was killed, the GOP would have downplayed it?

There are photos of GOP lawmakers on the day cowering in fear and blocking the door. Those same lawmakers now say 1/6 was no more dangerous than a tourist visit. It's all so obvious, isn't it?
