Best year for new albums Topic

Help settle a debate I was having with a friend. What is the best year ever for new music releases?

My initial thought was 1992, and he said 1994.

Upon further research, it may be 1991 with the likes of:
  • Nirvana - Nevermind
  • Pearl Jam - Ten
  • Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik
  • Ice Cube - Death Certificate (best rap album ever, IMO)
  • Metallica - Black album
  • GNR - Use Your Illusion 1 & II
  • U2 - Achtung Baby
  • My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
  • A Tribe Called Quest - Low End Theory
  • NWA's final album
I've added a couple other years that are also strong contenders. Let's hear your thoughts on the subject!

I voted for 1995. Mad Season - Above, Oasis - What's the Story Morning Glory, Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill, Deftones - Adrenaline, Alice In Chains (tri-pod), The Verve - A Northern Soul, and Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infiinite Sadness, are some of my favorite albums ever!

Try 1971. Far superior to the 80's or 90's.

Of those choices I’d go 91 too.

I would probably pick like 68 or 66 though, if I did some more research. There’s gotta be a year where you had a new Dylan, Stones, and Beatles album with some like Van or Kinks or etc thrown in that would be hard to top.

The Kinks are a really underrated band. Probably overshadowed by all the bands you mentioned!

I'm a little partial to 1992 just because the Singles soundtrack and Dirt completely flipped my musical taste and preference.

Plus, Beastie Boys - Check Your Head is my favorite album of theirs.

We were also introduced to Rage Against the Machine and Stone Temple Pilots that year!

Early 70's

You're from Canada??? and pick early 70's and use Chicago??????????? as your example. WOW.

Why Not The Guess Who, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, heck even Chilliwack or Red Rider (GREAT Band!!)
Or Bruce Cockburn, or Ian Tyson, etc.

Your musical experience seems as limited as your world views.

If not for Bob and John&Paul and Mick&Keith, we’d all be worshipping at the alter of Ray Davies. Dude could write a ******* song.

Or maybe Alvin Lee.

I voted for 1991 because it changed the ENTIRE musical landscape across the board. It was a MONUMENTAL shift in public tastes, radio play, MTV, etc. the likes of which had never been seen before or since. The musical world isn't the same beast anymore so that kind of defining shift is beyond reach now. In the 70's everything everyone tried was relatively new. The 80's became image and flash over substance. The 90's wiped the slate clean which has directly led us to a world today where the youth very LITERALLY listen to EVERYTHING. That shift started in 1991.

You pick your bands and I will pick mine. You obviously have no real taste in real music.. and the .O.P. doesn't say to choose one from your country. You just like to fight.. for the sake of being a jerk

Your social skills are just... sad
