Any Barry Manilow LP's on that "top selling" list?
And I don't want to pick on/single out "Meatloaf" but c'mon man----------- I sure don't want THAT as representative of "good" popular music of our time.............do you?
And it SOLD (a ton).
The minute you include sales as a factor, you've included MILLIONS and MILLIONS of casual listeners and you bring in the lowest common denominator issue. Thus you get **** like ""Yummy Yummy Yummy I Got Love in my tummy and I feel....." by so-called (wasn't even a real band of united players) bands like The Ohio Express. (Google them!) even within GREAT creative periods of music creation, like the late '60's was.

Letting the NON fans dictate taste to the real lovers of music (those that listen daily and PURCHASE the product---all types of non hit products!!) only leads to musical stagnation and periods of garbage (like MOST of the 80's). For a good parallel, look at what MLB is doing these days!!

RUINING the game, with STUPID major rule changes in order to attempt to attract the "casual" (less interested!!) viewer. Does anybody even WATCH the AS Game anymore?? I know I don't even bother. I'm just not interested.

What they do today--------- it isn't baseball!! The next "change" will be------------ "look, it's still to slow for most, let's just shorten the amount of innings to 5, limit pitching changes some MORE, and add a runner at 1st in EVERY inning. NOW you got something that even those that Hate baseball WILL watch!!!!"

But what have you got??
It ain't BASEBALL!!!

You’ve gotta account for sales a little bit though, but your baseball rant deserves a standing ovation.

You're from Canada??? and pick early 70's and use Chicago??????????? as your example. WOW.

Why Not The Guess Who, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, heck even Chilliwack or Red Rider (GREAT Band!!)
Or Bruce Cockburn, or Ian Tyson, etc.

Your musical experience seems as limited as your world views.
Neil swoooooooon

You pick your bands and I will pick mine. You obviously have no real taste in real music.. and the .O.P. doesn't say to choose one from your country. You just like to fight.. for the sake of being a jerk

Your social skills are just... sad
Hahaha ok? Sorry for saying “Neil swooooooon.” Apparently those are fighting words?
Dunno. Maybe explain what Neil swoooooooon means..

As for me, I totally blew the topic. Never did give a year.. so there.. . but Chicago IMO = one of the greatest bands ever
Chicago one of the greatest bands ever???? What have you been smoking and did you bring enough for everyone? Chicago wasn't bad, but one of the greatest bands ever?? Ever listen to Blood, Sweat & Tears? They were Chicago with soul.
CHICAGO before Terry Kath died were Gods. Have some respect man. The 80’s and Cetera soiled the memories, but Kath was a GENIUS.
you are right, early Chicago was pretty good. Still prefer B, S & T.

Both good. But for my money, from around the exact same time frame (maybe even a tad earlier) I gotta go with The Guess Who.
Shakin' All Over, 8:15, Humpty's Blues, early stuff was/is flat awesome.

The Guess Whi was awesome, but a totally different type of music from Chicago and B, S & T

  • Rage Against the Machine (debut)
  • Black Crowes - The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion

  • Gruntruck - Push

Rage’s debut and Chronic alone makes it a contender, such great albums

The ONLY album on that list I would call great is REM.
I was owning/operating a CD/Music store in 1992.
I purchased the new releases for the store every week for all of 1992.
REM was huge and a great LP.
The Alice N Chains releases sold real well and have some outstanding stuff.
The Black Crowes release was VERY spotty, but showed promise.
The rest of the list were just mainstream pablum!

I think their lead singer has a killer voice but not the biggest fan of their music overall.

Wormy is correct. My bad. I missed the Singles S/T CD. That is Great!!

Other 1992 releases that would have been on my best of 92 list include:

Neil Young -- "Harvest Moon"
Cowboy Junkies --- "Black Eyed Man"
Lucinda Williams --- "Sweet Old World"
Tracy Chapman --- "Matters Of the Heart"

But, NONE of then Rock!
