This is going to be reflecting stuff us old boomers saw as kids, and some older songs will be posted, but with a comment under them, alluding to the day and age we knew and remember

We can keep political issues out of it, because it only breeds contention

I will kick this off with

In those days:

Only girls wore earrings, and never more than two
Gay meant free and happy
Micro Chips .. were what was left in the bottom of the bag.
We danced to Little Darlin, and sang to Stagger Lee
We never thought we would ever see a boy named George with lipstick
The girls cried when Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper died in early 59
Oprah hadn't learned to talk yet
We never had a rock band that was grateful to be dead
Beatles lived in Gardens, and Monkeys lived in trees
Coke just came in bottles
and skirts went down to the knees
Bikinis actually covered both cheeks
Hardware was a box of nails, and bytes came from fleas
POT was on the stove, and made tea
Chevvy came out with a 283 that was one hp per cu inch

Today were are in a different world

and if you missed the fifties
You missed the very best

Yes racism was seriously bad
and cigarette ads were abundant
So were Booze ads..

It was Mom and Dad and
'Father knows Best'

Not 'Married with Children, or
All in the family

Houses had these funny looking things on their roofs called TV antennas
and on a Foggy Friday you could get 2 Seattle Channels, 2 from Vancouver, and one each from Bellingham and Tacoma

The commercials were hilarious

DAD! you traded that in on a Chrysler???

Here is a clip on this piece

I lived in White Rock BC for about 3-4 years. There was the Summer long swim club, and Vancouver was 30 miles North. W rock is on the US border

So my folks would head into a Lions Football game. I was 11-12 and they hired this baby sitter who was only about 3 yrs older than me. She taught me the two step and the hand jive. She was one of the most kind hearted girls you would ever meet. and I remember dancing to this song with her.. and it played on my parent's old mono record player. Funny how people can shape us

She also taught me how to make caramel popcorn balls. Sluuurp!

Rock Around The Clock is one of my favorites.
Especially the guitar part.
They were from Pittsburgh and I think still playing into the 2000s.
This song is a desert island song.

Yeah and when they get wet the bandaids fall off.
The best thing in 1954 was the bikini.

You said you were born in 44 so you must have real good memories from 1952 - 1959.
I’d like to know what you personally watched on television before 1960.
The good the bad and the ugly.

I think that's right. but.. this is not locked into fifties. That song was released in June 1960

Most high schools had someone who owned one of these

Funny thing about that. most of the guys who managed to end up owning a decent set of wheels as 16 yr olds.. they finished in the money.. often big time
