So basically we'll never get a pitching Ohtani because he will almost always get more appearances as a hitter than a pitcher. It's dumb that we can't get both. Even coded as separate players would be nice.

Unfortunately, after looking into this it sounds like getting two versions of the player isn't going to be happening. Trying to add the player with the same name to the database would cause issues with stats. Also, not many themes allow clones. So, I regret to inform you all that there will only be the one version of Ohtani :(.

I don't have my hands on the code so I'm not going to claim to know better, but it is confusing that there is an example of someone like the aforementioned 1886 Abner Powell that can have a hitter and pitcher season in the same year, even if it's a wonky edge case and not a 1:1 example, but something can't be done for Ohtani.

Just hard to wrap my head around as an outside observer.

It seems like DeGrom at $6M could be a popular pick for leagues $100M leagues and over.

I would think you could just have the hitting version coded as a combined season and the pitching version as a partial season, they’d share the same player and season IDs, so wouldn’t both be allowed on same team since pitching version could still hit, and would cost more because of his hitting stats.

But, like alleyvipwr says above, don’t have my hands on the code, so not sure how hard this really would be.

Idk about y’all, but the $/IP is too high for me at anything under 130M. I think I’ll stick with 16 Kershaw, or 09 Adams below that.

There can’t be two players with the same name? This doesn’t make any sense to the two Jose Ramirezes. Or to me. Sounds like they just don’t want to fool with it.

I agree. If they make the two versions of Ohtani akin to two different players, it should be no different than two players with the name Will Smith or Jose Ramirez. And those aren't clones.

Like others have mentioned - I don't have the code nor do I claim any knowledge on the subject of coding...

however, it seems that you may be looking at the issue under "how to give one player two seasons - one as a pitcher and one as a hitter" versus just looking it at as putting up separate players -with two separate player ID's - the hitter version of Ohtani and the pitcher version.

Not coded both as the same guy but exactly the same as there is a Catcher for LAD named Will Smith, and there is a pitcher for ATL named Will Smith. It seems reasonable to assume that you'd be able to create a hitter for LAA named Shohei Ohtani and a pitcher for LAA named Shohei Ohtani - and they do not need to be linked in any way.

Or just allow pitchers to be put in the lineup at other positions and be pinch hitters, etc.
