i would be for ID if the ID was free

otherwise its a poll tax

the state has many powers

my guess is a state's first interest would be knowing its people

you'd think you could get a ID for free

How much do Republicans care about what opinion polls say that voters think about abortion and gun control?

Those are fake polls

Making election day a Federal holiday is a fine idea, but I don't think it does very much to address access to voting. The very people who don't have the schedule flexibility to vote now don't get Federal holidays off anyway. As much as the general public is generally in favor of election reform and improved access to voting, I think it's fair to say that the convenience-obsessed American public is not ready to accept a holiday on which all the grocery stores, gas stations, and restaurants are closed so that the hourly employees can go vote.

A federal holiday would definitely help millions of people as well as to help to inculcate school kids in the civic duty and privilege that we still have.

Most Federal and state and city workers would have the day off but private businesses would not be mandated to do so and I doubt very much that essential services would close down.
Some businesses would give the day off and some half days but many millions of people would have a better chance to vote.

And who knows maybe the democrats one day could get a Saturday - Sunday - Monday all day voting weekend
because anyone who wants to be intellectually honest knows Republicans would be very “aristocratic”
about expanded days for greater voting acess.

Depends on what you mean by gun control. The majority want the right to bear arms.

On abortion:

Hey Dougo - that means 78% think it should be legal.

I note that Doug didn't cite polling on Roe v Wade itself.

60% want Roe v Wade to stay, 27% want it gone.

And if the other 13 were pressed and split 7-6 that would be 67-33.
