I agree with most of that. My only quarrel is that someone who is hitting a 9-iron 100 yards is not ever hitting a drive 290 unless it catches a cart path 3 times on a downslope.

My course of choice is Wescott Plantation. About 7300 yards and forces you to be straight. My only gripe is that they keep the greens too slow, but I would imagine they do that because of the length and tightness.

50-60 Bucks/Rd.
That's kinda the range I expected.
Too expensive for the average Joe.
Golf has gone the way of skiing.
Unaffordable for families anymore.
The 9 dollar ticket is long gone.
3 or 4 kids day passes at 9 bucks might be affordable.
3 or 4 kids at 40 - 50 bucks plus equipment rental and all of a sudden you can't afford to take the kids skiing!
Is bowling still affordable?

Bowling will run you 80-100 for a night before you buy the crappy food.

Fortunately, most golf courses are still affordable for young guys. My son plays for $6/round. It costs him as much to hit on the range as it does to play.

cause they are boring...just like golf!
How much golf have you played?

I find it unrelentingly tedious to watch, but fun to play.
probably 7 - 10 rounds. It really wasn't boring, I just didn't find it all that much fun, considering the time and expense I would have to put in to get even partially decent at it.

Definitely a sport and probably the hardest one.
I don't know about that. Hitting a baseball at upwards of 90 miles an hour is probably harder

Ahhh, now I understand why so many Pro Bowlers are white guys with ample bellies..........and why there ain't many latinos on the ski slopes..........ceptin of course the "blue bloods" from Mexico and they's familia.......but then they think they's white anyways..........

And dang, if Golf was only 6 bucks a round in these parts I'd take it up again, long as I could walk........
Barefoot.

I’ve done both. Hitting a stationary golf ball sitting there laughing at you is much harder than hitting 90 MPH. The margin for error is much smaller on a golf course than a baseball field.

I've also done both and I kinda disagree.
With Golf, I have a decent chance of stroking it solid and getting an acceptable result.

In baseball, when facing a hurler with 90 in his pocket, any hurler that could drop a bender off the table following a couple heaters could render me hopeless. No chance at all. Example. I've gotten legitimate birdies and an eagle. Wouldn't have a prayer vs. ANY 90 mph hurler.

The 9 iron is a pitch shot, half swing, no turn. I fly a full 9 iron 151

Decent drive is 265-70 in summer ,, carry 225. Anything over 280 is very rare nowadays. ( am OLD er)

Course makes you think the shot more. I pitch a nine iron more accurately than a wedge. Dunno why..

For fun, you can look it up and some kid did every hole with a drone. It is a beautiful spot.. and for some reason, my blood pressure drops just walking the thing

Here are some drone shots of a couple of the holes.. and it is 6500 off the blue tees.. Nobody carves this course up.

Here is number 2. Par 4 about 353 BUT, unless you like uphill shots from 90 yards out, best to hit a 5 iron and go short of the fall.. then a soft 7 to the green. Half the course is like that.. but there a few where you can 'grip it and rip it'
https://youtu.be/a9x1STicR3g

Number five is one of the toughest par 4's in the lower mainland

465 par 4 off the blue tees
https://youtu.be/R1I0XcEijZw

200 to carry the valley, and just over 270 to clear the dogleg, so you want a good drive. Pin placement is a killer with this one

I think Wescott Plateau is on the east Coast N Car. I am in the Greater Vancouver area.

7300 is a long course. Phew! I hate the electric carts. Walk or stay home

OUCH. When I was a young teenager, I used to set pins in a local Bowling alley. We'd make some change and could bowl for free.. when things were slow. A game was 25 cents. You'd make a nickel a game if you set pins. Now that's back in the days when Chevvy had the 348. 409 not born yet

John Daley. HUGE hitter. 285+ with a 3 iron. All day. Kind of huge himself. Had quite the war with the booze. He won

Hitting 85 w no stuff is easier, but if it hits YOU.. not a ton of fun.. Not for me

Serious: Tell me about that first Eagle

Bellingham course. Sudden Valley IF I remember right. Hit my drive into a trap. Got lucky and "swept" a 5 iron (seemed like) a mile, slight draw. Prolly went maybe 175-180 and hit the green and stopped. 3 feet. Pin high. My knees were knocking but I made the putt.

BTW, LNF. My best ever round (18 holes) happened at the Chiliwack Golf and Country Club. I remember thinking (at the time) that the fairways were like velvet. Made a few putts that day. It was 50 years ago now, if it was a day.
