so i do want to get started as soon as possible...

however i will be completely m.i.a from 9/29 through 10/3...its a good friends bachelor party weekend up in the poconos(pleasure dome! haha iykuk) and i have no interest in trying to make picks or run a draft during that time

so the plan will be to start drafting as soon as i get back...ill get everything set up and should have the league filled before i leave

look for a sitemail sometime this weekend about sign ups

what do we think of an ODL style draft where owners get to choose "closer to 1 or 24"? I think 6 of 8 times i've picked high teens to late 20's.

You can always trade for closer to where you want to be. In six seasons I have never been higher than 17th and I am usually between 21 and 24. Just pretend you are Gerry and you will get a high pick.

Ya, but then I have to play Mark Price ;-)

Every season I know that I can trade out of my slot if I want to, but for some reason with Savage I feel that whatever I get is where the Savage Gods want me to be. Then I will say something like, hey, I’m at 24 again and then Rob will call me stupid for not trading up, but hey, how can I go against the Savage Gods?

Do we need to reconsider the ABBA start to the draft format? I am still inclined to think it's necessary because (despite my own utter failure with Lebron) I think there are a handful of guys at the top that would give too much of an advantage in an ABAB format. But there seems to be growing evidence that the best place to pick is in the 18-24 range.

Great question. If not too complicated I wonder if "ABABBABA..." would work, since it still provides a bump to late pickers compared to straight snake but not as large.

I'm looking at this years' draft and trying to game it out a bit to see if top picks would become OP. LeBron/Jokic or LeBron/Hakeem would be pretty scary but fewer top tier guys make it to round 2 than I initially expected. Put another way, the gap between top of the second and bottom of the second is big... but maybe smaller than I thought. The VII draft was broadly similar.

Are we sure that is the case?

Yeah I don’t think it should be changed personally. Even without looking at the data Rob presented, I remember specifically teams doing great in the 12-16 range, and even an overall champ with several podium finishes in the top 5 or 6.

Now look at the data - specifically avg of team rank. I’m not sure it could be more balanced.

Totally agree.

I would vote to keep it the same

I agree with keeping it the same based on robusk's numbers. My hypothesis was disproven by the data, at least to the extent it would be stark enough to consider a change (though I do note picks 20, 23, and 24 all in the top 5 of performance so far).
