Ideal Formation IQ Topic

Is there a generally accepted level that formation IQ should be at for a player/team? 50? 70?

Does formation IQ improve only from coaching/practice time or does it also improve from players getting playing time in a formation?

Team Practice time allotment and their GPA allows for faster or slower growth. Playing time does not improve formIQ

Many seasons ago I ran formations during the game that I didn't practice. The players' formation IQ increased for those formations.

I have to agree with majique on this one. My underclassmen see more playing time during the season than my upperclassmen. The younger guys are improving by 7-12 more points on average over my upperclassmen. So I believe playing time does enhance the formation IQ.

Majique's point is interesting. I'm not willing to try it to see if it's true.

Regarding your underclassman FormIQ growing faster that's because they have more bandwidth to grow. Check out your redshirts formIQ, They grow faster than your upperclassman by the same amount as your freshman getting PT.

FrGrowth > SoGrowth > JrGrowth > SrGrowth

it's a class thing and redshirts have more class

But... Freshmen who are redshirted do not grow as fast as Freshmen who get playing time.

But those redshirt freshmen do grow faster as Sophomores than they would had they played as Freshman without a redshirt because any WE increase during their redshirt season (it does happen) gives them a head start into their growth the year they do play. For instance, as a FR his WE may have been 40 but when he starts the next season his WE may be 45. But it is important to remember, lack of playing time can negatively impact their growth regardless of any redshirt freshman year WE increase. Upper level potential combined with great WE and lotsa playing time result in the most growth.

Has anyone ever redshirted a sophomore after their freshman promise start? Curious how this guy will do if I slap a RS on him next season.
After his SO(RS) he would start the rest of career. Do you think the repercussions of redshirting him will be too much. He is a VH potential.
