$50M Franchise Draft

Rules:

1. No clones (exception rule 5), rookies, or waiver wire.

2. Each user is responsible for drafting and managing a team that remains in compliance with the league rules.

3. Draft two franchises. Each player season on your team has to be from one of the two franchises. You must have at least 5 players from each franchise.

4. Draft Sequence: AB. During the first round, each franchise can only be selected once. It resets for the second round. Each franchise can only be selected once in the second round.

5. If a player played on each of your two franchises, you are allowed to use two seasons of that player as long as each franchise is represented.

6. You cannot draft the same franchise twice.

7. Draft order: Draft lottery will use the New York Lottery. Each user will be given a time slot. The first three numbers drawn during that time slot will be your score. Lowest score will be number 1 and so on. Ties will be broken by whoever has the lowest 4th number.

8. A posted pick is FINAL. No changing picks after a selection is posted. If an ineligible selection is made, the draft will continue on and the user who made the selection will have to make another pick. Other users do not have to wait for the makeup pick to be made.

9. During the draft, site mail the next 2 users on the schedule after making your pick, or state that you cannot site mail and somebody will take care of it.

10. Draft will be on the clock. 24 hour rule in place.

11. Trades are allowed, but only for entire draft slots, not individual picks.

12. Divisions: Divisions will be random.

13. During the draft, please refrain from mentioning undrafted players.

14. The "Commissioner" may take control of any team refusing to comply with the ODL league rules. A warning will be issued in the league forum and a sitemail, after which the user has 3 games to comply. All games in violation are 'losses'.

The first 3 numbers drawn from your time slot is your score. The lowest score gets #1 and so on. Ties will be broken by whoever has the lower 4th number drawn.

Just a clarification Ben - you have the Charlotte and New Orleans franchise on one line then the New Orleans Pelicans on another. It should be just one correct, can't also just the Pelicans on their own?

You’re right, I had planned on it being one line. That’s what it is in Old Skool. But maybe the pelicans are good enough in their own. What do people think?

At $47 I think combining them all works. At $50 there’s a bigger benefit. I can see a possibility of having Charlotte Hornets / Bobcats be treated as 1 franchise, and the New Orleans Pelicans/ Hornets/ OKC hornets as a 2nd franchise.

I would prefer to leave them all combined as 1 though for my preference.

It should be two separate franchises. The original Charlotte Hornets became the New Orleans Hornets, spent a couple of seasons playing most of their games in Oklahoma City, then became the New Orleans Pelicans. After the original team went to New Orleans there was an expansion Charlotte Bobcats team, which reclaimed the Hornets name after New Orleans became the Pelicans.

On top of that there was the New Orleans Jazz, who moved to Utah.

I was always undecided which franchise name makes the least sense between the New Orleans Jazz moving to Utah, but keeping the Jazz name and the Lakers moving away from “The Land of 10,000 Lakes” and keeping the name Lakers in Los Angeles. At least they have alliteration.

In the event people were prepping I would say keep to the original plan that was bbr. And I believe in bbr they're separate right? Fine either way, just my two cents.

You have ABA listed as a separate franchise. There are good Bobby Jones seasons from the ABA and good Julius Erving seasons from the ABA. The Erving seasons are from before he went to Philadelphia, but how are these Bobby Jones seasons going to be treated? Are they part of Denver or part of the ABA?

This makes the most sense to me. We will follow exactly what basketball reference has for franchises with the exception of having an ABA team.

good question Midge. If you draft the Pacers, you get all Pacers all the way back through and including the Pacers years in the ABA right?
But if you draft the ABA, then you just the the Pacers players while the Pacers were in the ABA (along with all the other ABA teams), right?

I say keep the Hornets and Pelicans as separate franchises. They are separate franchises.
