Who should I draft? Topic

My team sucks, I could use either of the 3.. The pitchers overall rating is like a 90 while the other 2 are 80ish.. The SP pitch ratings are alarming and I dont really like LHPs.. I briefly looked for comparable SPs in a few leagues and could not find a player with similar subpar pitch ratings to the SP.. On The RF I'm nervous about the Dur and Hlth rating.

I'm leaning towards the Catcher..

Not very experienced but first off what do you have in scouting? If you have 20 in scouting I'd go pitcher although Catcher is probably the safest bet.

Agreed on the SP, the 65/80/60 pitch quality is interesting and why I don't have a great comp either. When I saw that P1 wasn't above 70 I got concerned. Avisail Mujica, was the closest I could get. I'd be curious to see what people think about him in 10 seasons.

The catcher comps to a guy I drafted a few seasons back, just the C has less speed. Juancito Martin is a .300+ hitter with 25ish HR. With a lot less speed, I question how many XBH he'll end up having. Might be a Single, BB, or HR type of hitter. I like him over the RF; not a great comp but the closest I got was Olmedo Nunez but your guy is project -5 Con, -4 Pwr, +15 vR, +7 eye with +40 spd. So obviously not really a great comp at all.

Depending on needs of the team and availability of talent in the league (Cobbfather is lacking good starting pitching right now) I'd probably go C - SP - RF. I typically rate COF and 1B a little tougher because the positions are a little easier to fill it seems.

The knock on the pitcher is his P1, which is 65 and much below what even an average pitcher should be. The catcher would be a better pick over the right fielder because you will have a very above average bat behind the plate.

Again, how much scouting budget do you have? If these are with 20M then that 65 P1 is a clear problem. But it's such an outlier it feels to me like you have less than 20. Same for all these players having 100s in their projections.

So if all these players come up 10-15% less than their projections, then you end up with an average lefty starter, a not quite power hitting RF, and a catcher who can play a lot and hit for decent average. Hate that he's underpowered, but another thing I often think is that if a player's got only one bad rating he's probably going to be useful.

That catcher probably gets a career OPS in the .950 - 1.000 range if he hits those ratings.

I'll echo what everyone else has said, the splits are great for the pitcher and being a lefty shouldn't hurt him too much. That P1 is going to make him worse then he should be, which sucks.

I love the RF if he hits those numbers. A guy who can OBP over .350, hit 30 homeruns and steal 30 bases is an easy pick for me.

I don't hate the C but I often find I can sneak a DH into the C role and get a good bat. I'd take the RF.

Edit: I missed the durability for the RF. I'd probably still take him but wouldn't fault anyone for taking the C.

I drafted the C.. To me he looks like he will be a .300/.400/.550/.900 hitter and be able to go 600ABs at C

I was vey tempted to go with the RF as he would be a beast for 400-450 ABs if he stays healthy

I'm interested to see how the SP does.. My guess is he will be a 3.40 - 4.00 ERA pitcher.

C, RF, SP in that order.

SP-- very good, not great, ERA roughly 0.80 better than park-adjusted league average in about 200 IP/yr
C-- rare 140 game catcher, maybe about .310/.410/.420 in a neutral park? Pair with an outstanding defensive catcher who starts about twice a real-life week and comes in late in games.
RF-- maybe 130 games, .300/.370/.540 or so, and will steal 50 bases in 53 attempts if the rest of your team lets you set base stealing to 3 or more.

Either hitter is your leadoff hitter. If you generally run and average or more amount, it's the RF hands down. If you don't run, then all 3 are about even in my opinion.
