MIDGE

chewy3344

1) LeBron James - chewy is elite and I am interested to see which five seasons he uses. Looking at his roster it appears that LeBron will play point guard. I'm also interested in seeing how chewy builds around LeBron. Most people, given the first pick, will take LeBron, even though LeBron teams average only 42 wins and have won only 2 titles. Maybe chewy can improve on this.

2) Andre Drummond - rebounds, rebounds and more rebounds. I wonder if LeBron teams don't do well because of a rebound deficiency. I would have probably taken Bam Adebayo here because he shoots better, passes better and plays better defense. Jimmy Butler would have been fun here to team with LeBron in the backcourt, but Drummond is most likely the best pick. I just don't like him because he can't shoot free throws and because he punched Kyle Korver in the face back in 2015. This makes me wonder how often I draft a player because I like him, not because he is the best player or the best fit. Oh God, I'm starting to sound like Midge. Andre Drummond teams average 40 wins and have 0 titles.

3) Alonzo Mourning - I like this pick. Some excellent defense and an inside scoring punch. Without looking at all of the seasons Mourning seems to be a good fit next to ******* Drummond. Mourning teams have averaged 38 wins, but he has won 3 titles. I would assume that his 55% shooting season was responsible for the three titles. Maybe chewy is trying to have five teams go 41-41.

4) Robert Parish - Another good big. I would think that Robert Parish would start on some teams instead of Mourning. It looks like a pretty solid three big rotation. Parish teams average 41 wins and he has 3 titles. I stand by my theory that chewy is going for five 41-41 teams.

5) Brandon Clarke - A really good "other". He only has three or four seasons and he doesn't play much, but when he does play he plays very well. He averages 43 wins and has won 4 titles, which is pretty good. After looking at the hall of fame numbers, most players hover around the 41 win mark. Now that I know that am I going to keep talking about it? Probably.

6) John Henson - A PF who will play SF for chewy. He is usually 100% at SF, he usually plays good defense. So far it looks like he will have good rebounding, but I'm beginning to wonder about his assist levels. Henson teams average 39 wins and have won one title.

7) Tobias Harris - Some shooting and rebounding at SG. The usage% doesn't line up well with Clarke, but I'm sure chewy will figure it out. Harris teams average 43 wins and he has won two titles. I would not be surprised to see him add another title this season.

8) Kermit Washington - I'm starting to see a pattern here. Chewy likes drafting big, strong men who hit other men in the face. Rudy never looked the same after the doctors rebuilt his face. Kermit is just more John Henson, which isn't a bad thing. Crap, Sukow nailed it. Kermit's team have averaged 43 wins and he has 7 titles. Nice work, One Punch Man.

9) De'Anthony Melton - nice backup guard, I would think he would play well with Ja Morant or LaMelo Ball. Good defense, some threes, some assists, as far as I know he hasn't punched anyone in the face. The season I like to use hit 100 3-pointers. kinoa would take that season and Melton would make 225 3-pointers. Let's see how chewy does with it. Melton tens average 43 wins an he has 2 titles.

10) Marvin Williams - One thing I learned this draft was that I can't take Marvin Williams in the 11th round when chewy already took him in the 10th round. He has only one season that I would want to use, but that one season has 152 3 pointers at 40% and a turnover percentage of 7.1. Terry Tyler keeps walking around my team's locker room asking where Marvin Williams is. His teams average 43 wins and he has won four titles. Excellent!

11) Ja Morant - Here we go again. Ja Morant punched a guy in the face! It was a 17 year old kid, does that count? (Judge says yes!) What we have here is a failure to communicate a backup point guard for LeBron with lots of usage. I sincerely hope that Morant can stay healthy in the future and make some better life decisions and get his career back on track. He is so fun to watch play basketball. Ja Morant teams average 35 wins and he has won one title.

12) LaMelo Ball - Another high usage backup point guard for LeBron. I assume chewy will take the best five seasons from his last two picks and the other five seasons will be getting coffee, carrying luggage, etc. He has a 44 win average and one title.

Batman - LeBron James. Period.

Robin - I would go with Alonzo Mourning here, great defense and some scoring punch.

Alfred - Andre Drummond gets the nod here, doing all the dirty work like getting rebounds and punching people in the face.

What I like - He has LeBron James and a whole lot of rebounding. That is a good thing.

What I am concerned about - Is there enough assist%? I know the current trend is barely enough assist% to get by and super low turnover%, but if you're at 45% on assists, you're just giving back the 2% bump you got from playing up tempo. Also, are there enough threats from deep to keep people away from a -2 defense?

Random Midge thought - I would like to see a team with Andre Drummond, Kermit Washington, Rudy Tomjanovich and Kyle Korver.

24kpyrite

1) Wilt Chamberlain - picking Wilt is the easy part, deciding whether to use some of the early high usage Warrior seasons or the later low usage Lakers seasons is the hard part. I
consulted my Magic 8 Ball and if it's right Jared will be using the 66-67, 67-68, 68-69, 70-71 and 71-72 seasons. Only time will tell. Wilt is a bit of a tricky build due to his usage rates, but it's a good problem to have. Wilt teams average 42 wins and he has won one title. If you ever have the second pick in the draft I would suggest that you take Kyle O'Quinn (5 titles) and leave Wilt for me.

2) Kyrie Irving - a nice pick to go with Wilt, adding some good usage, some threes, some passing, and some tickets to The Flat Earth Society Fund Raising Dinner. The problems I have with Irving is that he doesn't play enough minutes and his defense is below average for this league. He also underperforms for me, but I'm assuming that 24k isn't going to let that bother him. It might have been fun here to try Luka Doncic here, but I can't complain about Kyrie.....yes, I can. You ruined my teams in Savage XIII, you little twerp. Okay, I'm done. Kyrie's team average 42 wins and have won two titles. I would like to point out that Jeff Hornacek's teams also average 42 wins and have two titles. So there!

3) Mitchell Robinson - Gotta love his offensive rebounding, but for me, this is too early to take a guy who only starts on two teams and only has three good seasons. Of course, he went even earlier last season. The best advice I can give you about Savage Basketball is to tell you to pay no attention to any advice I give you about Savage Basketball. His team's have averaged 45 wins per season, which is excellent, and they have won two titles. Plus, his mother is in a song.

4) John Collins - I like his PF season a lot and he has some SF seasons that can add some shooting and rebounding. This is just a little bit later than where he went last season, so it was one of those get him now or you're not going to get him picks. John Collins' teams average 41 wins and he has won two titles. With an average of 41 wins, I thick he should have been drafted by chewy.

5) Kenneth Faried - strong rebounding from the small forward position, a fine player. When you draft Kyrie Irving in the second round you had better be trying to salvage your season in the fifth round. His teams have averaged 41 wins with two titles.

6) Bobby Portis - strong rebounding from the small forward position, a fine player. Didn't Bobby Portis punch Dario Šaric in the face once? How did chewy let Portis get away? He even averages 41 wins, a perfect player for chewy! Bobby Portis teams average 41 wins and have won one title.

7) Mikal Bridges - strong rebounding from the small forward position, a fine player. Mikal Bridges has never been arrested for felony domestic violence. Mikal plays good defense.....sometimes. Mikal shoots threes well.....sometimes. He had very low turnover rates in Phoenix, because his teammates wouldn't let him touch the ball. 24k can use Mikal's down and up usage seasons to balance Wilt's up and down usage seasons. If you could build a la Frankenstein a basketball player using his best eFG% and his best defense and his best usage% and so on you would have a heck of a player. His teams average 40 wins and he has one title.

8) Chris Mullin - I like Mullin as a SG. Good solid below average defense, not a lot of assists since he's really a SF, he usually can hit some threes, but not really at a high volume.....why do I like him? I guess I like him as a backup SG in Savage. I hear he was great on the Dream Team! His usage% is all over the place, so I guess he goes well with Wilt. I'm assuming that Mullin and Bridges will play most if not all of the SG minutes. Mullin's team have averaged 39 wins and have won one title.

9) Victor Oladipo - Here we go! A shooting guard who can score and play defense and get some rebounds and some assists and.......has only one good season. I'm going to go out (on a very short) limb and predict that the Victor Oladipo team will be his best team. Jared tried to talk me into taking him, but I panicked after I missed out on Dan Roundfield by one pick. Dan Roundfield has a lot of heart. Victor Oladipo teams average 42 wins and have won four titles.

10) Samuel Dalembert - Samuel Dalembert is a basketball player and he will provide minutes somewhere. Wow, his teams average 43 wins and he has won five titles. Maybe I should pay more attention to Samuel Dalembert.

11) Charlie Ward - In his senior season at Florida State Ward passed for 3,032 yards with 27 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions. He completed 69.5% of his passes and averaged 8.0 yards per attempt. He added 339 yards rushing at 5.2 yards per carry and scored 4 touchdowns on the ground. He led the Seminoles to a 12-1 record, including an 18 to 16 win against the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Orange Bowl, as the team claimed the National Title.

12) Elvin Hayes - Hayes had a very long and distinguished music career, with hit songs such as Walk On By, Do Your Thing, and the Theme From "Shaft". In the 1970s Hayes was part of an ownership group that bought the ABA team the Memphis Tams, renaming them the Memphis Sound. He was also popular as the character "Chef" on Southpark, with his song "Chocolate Salty Balls" reaching #1 on the UK singles chart. Oh wait, all of that was Isaac Hayes. Never mind. Elvin Hayes had a very long and distinguished basketball career, doing such things as making baskets, blocking shots, and grabbing rebounds. The highlight of Elvin's basketball career was when he led his Houston Cougars to an upset 71-69 victory against the #1 rated UCLA with Lew Alcindor, who entered the game with a 47 game winning streak. Unfortunately for UCLA, Alcindor had received an eye injury the week before in a game against Cal, was seeing double, and didn't know which basket to shoot at. Unfortunately for Houston, the two teams met again in the NCAA tournament, Alcindor knew where to shoot, and UCLA won 101-69.

Batman - Wilt Chamberlain

Robin - Kyrie Irving

Alfred - Mitchell Robinson

What I like - Wilt Chamberlain, and the fact that after more than three hours I am almost done with this.

What has me concerned - Where is the usage and scoring coming from when Kyrie Irving is on the bench.

Random Midge thought - If the Bridges were the Warner Brothers and the Warner Sister I would have to say that Mikal is Yakko, Miles is Wakko, and Bill is Dot.

DH555

5. robusk

1. Michael Jordan

I think MJ has settled nicely into the consensus #5 player in Savage. I'll concede Giannis as #4 even though I'm kinda scared to use him in this league - I'd much rather start with MJ. It's a nice safe warm feeling knowing you have a 37-40 mpg #1 scorer for all 5 teams who gives you elite defense at the 1-2. 3s are really the only flaw you have to worry about. I had a tough time deciding between 92-93 and 95-96 as the 5th season when I used him last season so I'll be curious to see which one you went with. I know you can win from any draft slot but it's extra terrifying to see you starting with MJ.

2. Shawn Marion

Marion is such a great late 2nd to pair with MJ. It's a long wait until the 3/4 turn and it really helps to have a flexible player like Marion who plays heavy mins in 4/5(07-08?) seasons. He's not a great 3pt shooter but the extra splash of 3s he gives you at the 3 or 4 is important when MJ is your 2. His 02-03 season could also play the 2 to pair with 88-89 MJ in a scary looking backcourt. I know you kinda pushed back on this earlier, but when I think of robusk teams, low tov% is what comes to mind. Marion definitely fits this bill and combined with MJ gives you an incredible start with tov%.

3. Dikembe Mutombo

Oh shiiiiit. Dikembe drops to this spot again? It was an easy pick for me last season and I imagine it was pretty easy for you as well. Sure, he can only play the 5 and loses some D when covering the 4. He doesn't have elite creb% or efg% for most of his seasons either. Tov% maybe a lil higher then you'd like. But you can't ignore the 100 D with insane blk% combined with that many mins still available in the late 3rd. Bill Walton went with the next pick. Marcus Camby went earlier. These guys don't come close to the amount of high quality mins Mutombo provides. Scary to see you get a player like that knowing how well you do at drafting and fitting in those lower min middle round studs.

4. Chauncey Billups

This seems awfully familiar. WTF robusk? Just straight up copying my team from last year at this point. I expect better from you. I don't ever remember you using him before. I have some success with him last year and all of a sudden he's on your radar? - doesn't add up. I mean, I'm sure there were other options out there that perfectly compliment MJ in the backcourt. You're telling me you couldn't find any other guys who shoots a ton of 3s at 40% while giving you the right amount of usg%, ast%, and D to compliment the first 3 picks? You just happen to pick the one that I used? I bet you didn't even know about his sneaky good FTAs. Pathetic.

5. Chris Andersen

I'm glad you decided to stop copying me and got back to drafting your kind of players. It's the middle rounds now so that means low minute, high efg% role players for robusk. I used to be like, "How is he going find enough quality mins taking a guy like Rob Williams in the 5th?" But a few Savage title seasons later and I'm wondering when those guys will start going in the 4th. You have kinda changed the draft board in that respect. Birdman is a great fit since he can play the 3 and 4 and allows you to possibly move Marion to the 4 in some lineups. I'm kinda surprised you didn't go with Michael Porter here though.

6. Ivica Zubac

Another robusky type pick. He brings that high efg% paint scoring and more importantly for this team, high oreb%. Mutombo covers his biggest weakness, defense, at the 4/5 but he really drops to concerning D levels when switched to the 3. Small concerns tho. I'm starting to get a sinking feeling the robusk 3-peat is inevitable.

7. Hot Rod Williams

Some hope! Everyone snatches up all the other usual robusk picks and I'm guessing you had to shift gears and take Hot Rod earlier than you would have liked to. I remember when you could get him in the 10th or later. Thanks ash. You have to pay more for defense these days(Terry Tyler wasn't even available) so it makes sense to grab it while you can here. He has two really nice seasons and some others that can be used if necessary that won't hurt you too bad.

8. Kevin Johnson

I think you definitely needed some usg% + ast% behind Billups so getting KJ here was big. You can start his great 96-97 season which allows the worst Billups season to shift to a backup role(or not used at all depending on the team). Lack of 3s is concerning but I'm not sure there was a better option available that did shoot 3s. Maybe 3s will be the thing that can derail the 3-peat? You gonna give us a chance robusk?

9. Troy Murphy

I guess that's a no. Ughhh kind of a perfect fit. You can throw his two usable seasons on the teams that need 3s the most. Troy also provides elite dreb% for any teams that might need that as well. The defense is horrendous but you have good defenders around him at the 3-5. The low oreb% can be matched with Hot Rod/Birdman and their high def/oreb seasons at the 3. This isn't good.

10. Vince Carter

Really? Vince is just gonna be sitting there as the perfect MJ backup in the 10th? Even has the super low tov% to match. That's it, I'm calling it. You are the favorite to win it all in Savage XIV.

11. Mo Bamba

Here's Troy Murphy lite(with better defense) added to the mix. Awesome.

12. Ryan Anderson

Sure. Why not. Might as well add the OG 3pt/reb% guy at the 3 too. He was my 12th round target too. You suck.

Another stellar draft for the Savage GOAT. Plenty of usable mins. Flexible seasons. No major weaknesses. Not sure you're elite at anything(maybe tov%?) so there's that I guess. Looking forward to seeing how you put the teams together.

Prediction: Top 5 finish. Favorite to win it all

6. ncmusician_7

1. Dwight Howard

I'm not really sure who should be ranked #6 on the overall big board. Personally I would have Shaq because of his combo of mins, usg%, and efg%. But Shaq has a bunch of flaws and I think you can make a strong case for a few other guys, Dwight being one of them. Elite efg%, rebounding, and defense at the 4/5 with major mins. What's not to love? My problem with Dwight has always been that I don't trust him as a #1 scorer, which he will be for your team here. The pp48 is pretty low for his usg/efg combo and then of course you have the end of game FT concerns. I think he's best suited as the #2 guy.

2. Magic Johnson

Wow! Pretty sure this is the latest Magic has ever went. What a steal. You had to be thrilled to see him here. Ast% concerns out the window. Rebounding on the way to being elite. Another higher usg% player that will draw a good amount of FTAs(in some of his seasons anyway). Super flexible. The downside is that tov% is now a pretty big weakness and you will be stressing 3s and backcourt D the rest of the draft.

3. Elton Brand

Oh man, Klay went two picks ahead of you in the 3rd. I know he gets a lot of hate but I love him as a 3rd rounder for this team. Were you thinking about him here? Never sure how to feel about Brand. 3 of his seasons are 97/98% at the 3 which always bugs me with higher usg players. But he also comes with good to elite defense and good rebounding. The two teams with his best seasons are going to be scary.

4. Danny Green

I've never been a fan of the 2/3s that don't rebound and pass. I just always feel like I still need one of those things, or both. You don't have that problem here so I get the Green pick, despite how early it feels. He's super clean and shoots a ton of 3s - huge needs for you. He even has 2 seasons that are 100% at the 1 which I didn't know about until just now. The other seasons will take a pretty big hit at the 1 when covering for teams with poor defense from Magic. I thought I was going to hate this pick a lot more but I'm not really sure who would have been a better substitute for all those things you needed from the 2. I doubt he would have made it to your 5th rounder.

5. Robert Williams

I could hear robusk scream all the way from across the country as you made this pick right in front of him. I can safely say I'll never be using him in Savage if 5th round is now his price tag. This is crazy people. He has under 4500 mins total! But it definitely works for owners. Can't argue the results. He's pretty great with the efg/oreb/d in the few mins he does play. I kinda hate this pick for your team though. You were already pretty good in those things with Dwight and Elton. Meanwhile Portis and Porter were right there to add some more 3 point shooting to the frontcourt to balance out Dwight's paint scoring.

6. Andre Iguodala

I loved this pick for your squad. Backcourt defense was drying up fast and Iggy can platoon with Green nicely at the 2. He has several usable seasons with varying usg% that will come in handy when putting the teams together.

7. Deandre Ayton

Looks like he will be the primary Dwight backup. The efg% and creb% are lovely but I'm not sure if the usg% is right. You are pretty much locked into low usg players at the 2 and the 5. Ayton only has 2 seasons with 4 points usg% and Magic and Brand have seasons that aren't 4 points as well. It seems like you might run into some trouble with usg% in certain lineups. Not a whole lot of great higher usg options at this point(maybe Boozer?) so maybe it's worth that risk.

8. Chris Webber

Ehhhhh I don't know nc. I see you have him listed as the primary Brand backup. Does that include his 93-94 season that is 95% at the 3? All of his seasons are 97/98 or lower at the 3. I'll be curious to see how the Brand/Webber rotation does in those 97/98 seasons. The few times I've tried to do that with higher usg players it always burned me so I try to avoid it.

9. Steven Adams

A natural fit with Rob Williams in the super high efg/oreb platoon at the 5. His 22-23 is lower mins but pretty amazing with that 18.8% oreb. Great pick here.

10. Jameer Nelson

I'm thinking you had to be very pleased no one took Jameer early. When you need 5 seasons of 3s with a certain amount of usg/ast at the 1 late in the draft, it doesn't get much better than Jameer. His 08-09 is an elite backup season.

11. Joel Przybilla

The third leg of the high efg/oreb center trio. Where else can you find a player with a 40% creb season this late. He even has some seasons with decent defense. I'm surprised he isn't drafted more.

12. Leon Powe

Finally a 3 who is 100% at the position! Love that 07-08 season.

As usual with your teams, the efg% will be a strength. However, I just don't like floor balance and usg% distribution. Danny Green isn't scaring me enough to not go -2 on you. I also think you put too much pressure on Magic and Dwight as scorers that could lead to even higher turnover numbers. Should be strong on the glass and the defense is solid. I think the 05-06/06-07 Brand teams could be title contenders but the other 3 teams may struggle.

Prediction: 10-15 finish

7. notoriousj

1. Chris Paul

I actually have CP3 behind Harden in the guard ranks and out of my overall top 10. But I'm probably in the minority there. He's a fantastic starting piece who takes care of ast% pretty much by himself and provides defense at the 1/2 with good scoring.

2. Bill Russell

The ultimate "eat your vegetables" pick. It's not sexy. No one is excited about committing 44mpg on all 5 teams to a guy with a 44% efg. But what he does give you makes the rest of the draft that much easier. Poor defense? Poor rebounds? Too many fouls? No problem, Bill Russell has you covered with 100d, elite rebounding and super low fp48. You don't really need to draft a backup for him so you kinda gain to an extra roster spot as well. Really solid foundation with the CP3/Russell start.

3. Patrick Ewing

Booooooo. I really wanted to use Ewing this time around and I thought there was a chance he might make it to me in the 4th. Definitely did not think he would go before Alonzo Mourning, a similar player who I do like a little better. Ewing brings good scoring and defense, but with a ton of towels and he kinda locks Russell into the 4, making it easier for the Wilt/Kareem/Gilmore/Shaq etc. teams to defend you. I love that 89-90 season and I'm thinking it will be on your best team.

4. Draymond Green

Ewwwwww you lost me here. As steelers has been mentioning lately, Draymond does do a lot of things really well. I just don't think you really needed those things with this pick. You have CP3! No need for his awesome ast% at the 3. Now maybe he could be a nice sneaky backup to CP3 as well, but I don't think you have enough mins at the 3 to move him there. The defense is great but he's not really covering for anyone at the 4 and some of his seasons lose defense when covering the 2. I get building strength on strength but I'm not sure it was worth his negatives. You now have a problem with tov% and oreb% is a glaring hole, especially with just average to below average shooting.

5. Zach LaVine

With Green at the 3 and Russell at the 5, I like the idea of targeting high usg(preferably 3pt shooting) 2s. LaVine was a great start. He's got 5 usable season(and one elite one) and you can hide his defense 1-3. I never know what kind of impact it has anymore, but you're really starting to pile up the ast% now. I'll be curious to see if that gives you a bump in shooting.

6. Jaylen Brown

Another really good pick to team up with LaVine at the 2. Very nice dreb% and tov%.

7. Kristaps Porzingis

You got me again! I'm starving for 3s in the frontcourt and Porzingis and that 22-23 season would have been perfect. I like that he has 5 seasons that could backup Ewing with super low tov% and solid defense. But maaaaaaan, there's no way I'm not targeting oreb% with the rest of my frontcourt picks here after your start. The 3s really weren't necessary and I think it might have been more important to find more paint scoring. Ewing alone(more mid in some seasons too) isn't enough to stop me playing +1/+2 defense against you now.

8. Jaren Jackson Jr.

Ok now it just seems you're ignoring oreb% on purpose haha. Love that 22-23 season, the others not so much. He can backup both Green and Ewing but I don't really like him in either spot. That's probably too much usg behind Green and realllly bad rebounding behind Ewing. And of course there's his insane foul rate.

9. Thaddeus Young

I'm still amazed the same Thad Young I watched grow up as 76er was able to have a season with 20% ast. It didn't do a whole lot for his NBA career but he's now a mainstay in Savage drafts because of that 20-21 season. I'll be curious to see where that season gets mixed in for you. His other seasons should be solid backups at the 3. Love that stl% too.

10. Myles Turner

Oh yea. You're getting +2. Starting to think that even with Russell, rebounding might be kind of a problem too. Still, hard to deny 61.2 efg% on 22.1 usg%. This will probably be the last Savage he goes this late after his 23-24 gets released.

11. Devin Booker

Looks like he will be the main CP3 backup and probably also mix into the high usg rotation at the 2. I like it. You weren't hurting for ast% so no real need for a traditional backup 1.

12. Moses Brown

Fun lil backup to Russell. Doesn't really fit the usg% but the boards sure do.

Defense should be very good. Possibly one of the best. Russell should hold down the glass but I wouldn't be surprised if you were weaker than you thought there. It's possible I overrate oreb% too much, but you are shockingly low. For a team that doesn't have great shooting I think that is a death sentence for the offense. Maybe the high ast% makes up for it? I'm not digging the floor balance either, not enough paint scoring. I could see the 89-90 Ewing team making some noise but overall I'm pretty down on this team.

Prediction: 15-20 finish

8. ty84moss

1. David Robinson

I'm glad I didn't trade with jcred for the 9th pick, Drob would have been the target. Great starting piece. Elite defense, paint scoring with good FT rate, solid on the boards, and plenty of minutes. The only question left is do you use the 93-94 season? Seems like owners are split on that decision based on past Savages.

2. Clint Capela

I like Capela as a late 2nd rounder. He's awesome at what he brings - high efg% paint scoring and boards. But passing on Magic? If I'm gonna take a hit on defense in the 2nd I think I'd rather take the super flexible guard who takes care of any ast% concerns.

3. Klay Thompson

Oh Klay. I just can't quit you in Savage. Those 5 really similar seasons of super clean elite high usg% 3pt shooting with good defense are just so pretty to look at. One of these drafts he's gonna fit like a glove on a team as a late 3rd/early 4th round pick and dominate. Could it be this team? You have a good start with the boards already. Klay really gives you a nice inside out punch with Drob/Capela's paint scoring. Unfortunately, the biggest problem with Klay imo is his fit with the other guard in the backcourt. Since you don't have one right now(Magic!) all the warm fuzzy inside-out offense feelings will quickly turn into dread as you realize you boxed yourself into an ast% heavy PG. One that will probably have poor defense(that Klay doesn't really cover well) and probably ruin any kind of rebound advantage that Capela might have gave you. One of these Savages I'd love to see Klay end up on a LeBron team at the 3/4 turn. That's best case scenario for him.

4. Nikola Vucevic

I thought I would hate this pick a lot more when I first glanced at your team. Seemed like 4/5 overkill when you still needed a 1 and a 3. But looking at the draft board, Vuce is clearly one of the best players available. And boy does he form an awesome trio with your first two picks. He's got the usg to backup Drob and the boards to back up Capela. Depending on the season, he also adds some 3s and much needed ast%.

5. Steve Nash

Whew...this pick. First off, you had to do it. You weren't going to find a better source of ast%. Nash gets a lot of hate and rightfully so as the player pool has evolved over time. But late 5th is kind of ridiculous for a player with 5 30+ min season of elite efg% and ast%. The offense is looking absolutely frightening right now. But the downside? Well I lived the downside in Savage 10 when I had my 2nd worst performance in this league with that backcourt. Now, keep in mind that was also Klay in the 2nd and Nash in the 3rd(WTF was I thinking!?!). However I think you might run into some of the same problems I did, namely backcourt defense and rebounding. If your backcourt defense doesn't total 100(which will be the case if Klay is covering Nash at the 1) you're gonna have a bad time(don't feel like linking to the South Park clip). You can possibly survive on the glass but it means hitting the boards as hard as you can at the 3. Not easy as the draft gets later and later.

6. Eric Bledsoe

Backcourt defense you say? Bledsoe was really solid value here and should give you some different options now in the backcourt. I'd like this pick a lot more if you had a 3 on the roster. Getting risky at this point in the draft to have 0 mins there.

7. Desmond Bane

Ballsy pick here. Still 0 mins at the 3 and grabbing a 2 season Klay backup instead. I'm guessing maybe you had planned to do this and felt good about getting your targets later(Billy boy!)? Bane is awesome in those 2 seasons but to play his full mins you are really taking a hit on ast%(if he plays the 1) or rebounds(if he plays the 3) in the mins he shares with Klay.

8. Amir Johnson

Finally! Time for a deep dive on Amir since I've never had the pleasure of using him in Savage. Well first thing I notice is that he is pretty much 100% in all of his seasons at SF. For some reason l always thought most of them were 97/98%. He's low usg in all of his seasons, which I thought was a must for you at the 3. And of course he brings what I already knew about him, good boards and high efg%. More minutes than I previously thought as well. Defense is mostly 50/60s outside of 2 lower minute seasons though. Overall team defense is on life support right now.

9. Alex English

I hate this pick. He can backup Klay for those other 3 seasons. That's about the only good thing I can say about him. This probably should have been a SF.

10. Bill Bridges

Billy Boy coming in late to save the day! Awful shooting and fouls a lil too much but he has some usable seasons with 80 d and really strong boards at the 3. That gets chopped down some from being only 97/98% pos eff but beggars can't be choosers in the 10th. Some serious minutes too you needed with only Amir at the 3. Great pick.

11. Jusuf Nurkic

I thought you had enough mins from Drob/Capela/Vuce to cover all of the 4/5 but I guess you might be short on some teams? That would be the only reason to draft Nurkic. Even if that were the case, I'm doing that in the 12th and grabbing another SF here. Most notably....SPOOOOOOON! Perfect pick for you here. That 00-01 season would have been the best SF mins on the team.

12. George Hill

Nice player with some flexible seasons. But he doesn't have the ast% to back up Nash.

I like the offense a lot. Great inside-out attack with good usg balance. The defense is going to be a problem though. I'm not sure you'll be able to overcome it. The boards may also be a weakness on certain teams/lineups. Going all in on the Amir/BillyB SF rotation is pretty damn risky as well.

Prediction: 15-20 finish

STEELERS821

9. jcred5 - Rudy Gobert, Larry Nance, Andrei Kirilenko, Clyde Drexler, Dirk Nowitzki, Fat Lever, Donovan Mitchell, Zion Williamson, Al Jefferson, Theo Ratliff, Mel Daniels, Gorgui Dieng

- Whats not to love above about Rudy Gobert(in the sim at least) he gives you an immediate advantage on the boards with fantastic dreb and good oreb, great efg and great defense. His usage isn’t even that low compared to some of his counterparts like DJ. With that said I still prefer to have a bit more usage with my pick i personally would’ve gone with Shaq or Kareem. Nance, boom 3 more 100 defense seasons. Nance is a lot of fun, decent efg, passable rebounding for SF and at least 3-4 low tov options. In fact I didn’t realize how many good seasons he had, IMO its not obvious which 5 to choose. You picked him about 12 picks earlier than hes been going in our 22-23 version of savage but i don’t consider that much of reach. Kirilenko, hmm I’m starting to notice a theme. Just looking at all of his seasons gives me a headache. Some with high efg but not 100 D or 06 where everything is fantastic except his TOV and efg. I’m not sure if I like this pick. Good defense is hard to find late so maybe it was smart to load up early but it just feels like there were more efficient offensive options. Ok so I’m assuming Clyde is going to be playing a decent amount of PG. I like that a lot. You finally answered the glaring lack of usage, while improving your team from a possession battle standpoint. His assists are also not terrible for a PG. When I look at the other high usage options available here this pick was definitely the right one. I love Dirk and sandwiching him between 3 100 defenders and a PG who is good on the offensive boards makes me feel like you planned on taking Dirk for a while. Dirk is going to get the line a lot for you and rarely turn it over so is meh EFG isn’t a problem. Dirk is a player who’s fantastic when the pieces fit well around him and you did that to perfection. Fat Lever is clearly always a great pick in savage. If I remember correctly, he could have the highest point total if he was drafted every season. Even by my more modest standards he only has 4 usable season but thats fine in the 6th. The seasons that he does have provide a major possession advantage and should fit well behind Clyde or next to him if need be. Mitchell and Zion both provide one really good season but not much else. I'll be honest, I wasn’t familiar with Al’s game but the low tov and good dreb will make for good enough backup to Dirk. Theo seems to be a fine match Gobert’s backup and Mel Daniels is a walking rebounding advantage for 2 seasons although not much else.

Overall I’m in love with the first 6 picks. I don’t think there are enough 3s but that’ll be fine until playoff season. Mitchell and Zion give you some best season flexibility for your starters but I do worry about your depth. My prediction is top 5 finish, with at least one title but a lack of 3s and depth keeps you from winning your second savage.

13: Midge – Kareem at 13 is a good value. He’s really dropped the last couple drafts, I assume because more are focusing on the lack of PF eligibility. Fair to do so, but my new metrics have Kareem and Howard pretty close. Howard definitely gives more flexibility with the PF eligibility, but at 13 I think it’s a great pick. Then you had to muck it up with Towns. I like Towns, but Kareem can’t cover him at all. If you think of some of the PF you won’t want to see like Giannis, Malone, AD, Kemp, Howard, Stoudemire, Dirk… those guys will all do pretty well. Hopefully your division is light on PF eligible scorers. If you were keen to go double big I like Capela, Kemp or Chandler here better. But you should have gone Kyrie, Nance, Pippen. Just take the best value.

I like Frazier with Kareem and Towns. They pass enough not to limit you at SG/SF. Great D, solid boards and reasonably clean. Haliburton I do not get. I wouldn’t want to play him next Frazier and if there’s a season or two of Frazier you don’t like that’s awfully early to get a back up. And I think Haliburton is generally a little overrated. His best season has 16.7 TO% and the other seasons he’s a part time pretty efficient PG. I don’t love Ray Allen in general, less with Frazier. I understand wanting to make sure you have the 3’s, but someone who rebounds and/or gets TO’s with the 3’s would like Porter/Covington/Batum might have been better. Cowens is solid and starting to get drafted closer to his value. He won’t wow you anywhere except D and maybe helps with Towns. I like Terry Tyler, just kind of early.

I don’t get where McCray fits in. Maybe he takes some Ray Allen minutes, maybe you have a Haliburton McCray backcourt at times. He’s just ok and I don’t like him at SF. “A tradition unlike any other…. Midge taking Bailey Howell for the 7th straight time by my count”. I think Gerry only drafted Price 5 straight times? (glad to see him back home this time Gerry!). Bailey Howell is fine, but maybe see if you can get him in the 12th instead of the 10th. Maybe no one else appreciates Bailey as much as you and you can grab some other value here. Rasheed is good value here and Torrey Craig is fine for a 12th rounder.

I’ll share a brief draft overview later to give context to each eval, I have Midge in the 15-20 range. I could see closer to 10-12 if a couple teams make a run and Midge has shown the ability to put together 1 or 2 pretty strong teams.

14. raggedclaws – Durant is a good selection at 14. I like using 2 seasons at SG and 3 at SF, but there are other options. I have hesitated taking SF early in the past because there’s so much SF value later in the draft. But KD can do it all and I think easy to build around. Whiteside is another good value pick, one of the most productive front court players when on the floor. I’m not a hug fan of Ginobili, but he fits well with this group. Solid in nearly every category and with KD you can often play him at the point.

Jarrett Allen is another good pick that fits well next to Whiteside. Great eFG, solid rebounds and D and a clean player. Horford in the 5th is interesting. Depending on the seasons you like he plays some 3 and 4 and fit with the KD 2 and 3. Or maybe you’re going full KD at the 2 which I don’t love as much, although my 5 favorite Horford seasons are all SF. It’s good to have options too with 7 picks left. Javale and Ed Davis is another great pairing. You need FC minutes with Whiteside and Javale fit nice with him, Ed David is another SF eligible that definitely leans towards lots of KD at the 2.

Calderon is the first pick I don’t like. With KD and Ginobili you have enough 3’s and Calderson shoots pretty well, but not frequently and otherwise he’s a zero. Nit-picking in the 8th and PG is getting thin. I like the Terrell Brandon pick better but understand he doesn’t have as many usable seasons #5 time Savage King robusk. David Lee is a solid SF/PF rebounder who scores efficiently. Two nice value picks to close out in Thomas Bryant and Mirotic.

I really like all but 1 pick, not sure I recall that in the past. Every pick seems to fit well and gives good options for team building. I’ll be curious to see how he uses KD. I believe I finished 3rd with him but I think any of my teams were close to a championship. I recall being generally disappointed in his performance. I put him with Conley, Eddie Jones and Nance most notably and I was frustrated with his SG play and was moving him back and forth between the 2 and 3. I’m pretty sure I used the 16-17, 18-19, 15-16 at SF and then 12-13 and 13-14 at SG. I’m sure you’ll get more out of him than I did with a good chance at getting KD his first Savage season championship.

15. riftonapple – Great start with AD. Not that he slid, but he’s great to build around. Rebounds can be a bit light, but he does everything really well. Gilmore I don’t love as much. He’s ok, but I think there’s more valuable players here. And if you’re going to take two bigs I’d rather you do it with someone who has position flex. Gilmore has some interesting seasons to choose from and can give roster building flex, with his big minute early career seasons with the higher boards and D or the later career high eFG at the expense of boards and D. Also he’s a towel machine, but at least you have very clean AD next to him.

Bobby Jones is a good player and you took him in a good spot, but he’s another one with very high towels. You’ll be looking at you team D and wondering how teams are scoring so much against you until you notice you’re average 20-23 fouls and TO’s each. Jones and AD I like a lot. Jones and Gilmore not so much. But if you pair them with plenty of clean players it can work. SGA is a bit of a reach. I like being aggressive with lower season guys, but I have him with 1 starting season and two helping. Late 4th the guards are getting real thin and I’m not sure there were significantly better options. You need assists so maybe Lowry. 5th pick is Pierce and it’s a bit early. I see Anfernee is still on the board. If you take Anfernee’s best and SGA’s best, you now have two emerging strong teams. Pierce is fine, but I’ve had been interested to see that Anfernee/SGA combo. Dejounte is ok. One season with great boards and solid elsewhere. Another pretty solid season. 3’s are a little light but looking at my team who am I to criticize that. Poeltl and Maxwell are real nice value. McMillan I like as a defender with steals and you have enough usage. Blake can be good and gives a little flex with Bobby Jones if you need to play him at the 4. I think Gervin is a good back up and a bit undervalued if you can make it work. I’ve had Lonzo Ball – hopefully you enjoy him more than I did.

Is this your first savage? If so welcome!!! I think you did pretty well for a first timer, if not still good. AD, Gilmore and Bobby Jones do a lot and you filled in behind them pretty well. You could do worse than 5 seasons of Pierce with these guys, but I wonder if you could have done a little better.

16. ashamael – Solid start for Ash with Karl Malone. My metrics have KG, Kawhi and Bird a little higher, but not much and you may have used them before. And you may also be afraid of taking Kawhi based just on metics because you know what it feels like for Kawhi to put up 24 mins, 14 pts, 4 reb, 2 ast in a playoff game. F That! I’ll take Malone’s 27-7 any day!!! Sorry, I can’t do a Savage eval without taking shots at that looser Kawhi. Oscar is a good solid player but I think too early. Nothing wrong with the player, but I like several other players more. Camby is very nice next to Malone. You have all the assists you need now and good FC defense. Boucher is early, but he has one of the best per minute seasons so you have that with some other nice partial seasons.

Brent Barry is not my cup of tea. Hopefully playing mostly at PG behind Oscar. Batum is a pretty nice fit here. You can afford Kanter with you FC defense and A.C. is a nice clean player who doesn’t really hurt you anywhere. Okongwu is a nice value in small doses. Really like O’Quinn and don’t mind Sikma. Good dreb and solid D. De’Aaron Fox is likely to cost me a fantasy basketball championship because he can’t hit his damned FT’s so F that guy. But fine for a 12th round Savage back up.

I find Ash’s teams the most difficult to eval. He’s so good at assembling teams I couldn’t see, so I’ll eval what I see knowing Ash will probably do better with it.

17. uptowngbv - Kevin Garnett, Dennis Rodman, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Love, Derek Harper, Andrew Bynum, Terry Porter, Khris Middleton, Antonio McDyess, LaMarcus Aldridge, Dan Gadzuric, Daniel Theis

Harper, Kobe, Rodman, KG, Love being the usual starters gives you three very good/great and one good defender(s). That lineup has lots of rebounds and plenty of usage. KG can play SF the one season that Rodman can't, so that's good. I wonder if Kobe in the top half of the 3rd round is too soon, and will the eFG% of the starters be too low?

Porter backing up Harper in four seasons (and starting in one), along with Middleton backing up Kobe, seems reasonable. Bynum/Aldridge backing up PF/C and McDyess backing up SF/PF looks very nice. Theis sometimes backing up Rodman at SF is alright and Gadzuric has one good backup season.

18. benhoidal - Kawhi Leonard, Joel Embiid, Jimmy Butler, Pau Gasol, Kyle Lowry, Bo Outlaw, Brandan Wright, Nerlens Noel, Andris Biedrins, Cedric Ceballos, David West, Reggie Miller

When Butler, Leonard, Outlaw, Gasol, Embiid are on the court together, they might have the highest +/- in Savage. Because some of these players don't have a ton of minutes, picking the correct backups are very important.

Lowry backing up Butler and Miller (maybe Ceballos) backing up Leonard is nice offensively, although I wonder if the drop-off in defense could be an issue at times. Wright, Ceballos?, and West (especially the 17-18 season) provide nice SF minutes (and maybe some PF minutes as well). I'm guessing you'll have either Embiid or Gasol on the floor at all times and have Biedrins (with his high eFG% and good rebounding) cover the other PF/C minutes.

19. pbandj - Hakeem Olajuwon, Gary Payton, Christian Wood, Richaun Holmes, Domantas Sabonis, Nic Claxton, Delon Wright, Dwight Powell, Larry Sanders, Grant Hill, Drew Eubanks, Anthony Edwards

Payton, Wood, Holmes, Sabonis, Olajuwon gives you two great defenders, great rebounding, and plenty of usage. The eFG% of Hakeem and GP (along with the lowish minutes of Wood and Holmes) could be a concern.

Claxton has a great PF/C low usage 22-23 season. Powell has several low usage, high eFG% PF/C seasons. Delon Wright is a good PG/SG defender. Sanders has a nice backup SF 12-13 season. Hill is versatile. Eubanks has two good backup SF seasons. Edwards has three good usage PG/SG seasons. I'm curious exactly how you will work the PG rotation when Payton isn't on the floor.

20. dontburnearl - Larry Bird, Jrue Holiday, Paul George, Jerry Lucas, Joakim Noah, Bradley Beal, Mookie Blaylock, Evan Mobley, Anthony Mason, Marquese Chriss, Marvin Bagley, J.J. Hickson

Holiday, George, Bird, Lucas, Noah being the usual starters is all around solid and George in the 3rd is good value; however, I think drafting Holiday early in the second round is too soon.

Blaylock backing up Holiday and Beal backing up George looks good to me. Your other picks can back up PF/C, but I don't see a proper backup for Bird at SF. Perhpas drafting someone like Worthy or Griffin in the late rounds would've worked as a Bird backup.

Is there enough shooting efficiency? Going to build it and see.
OK after building it this team is really good - these are just not my guys.

The shooting efficiency is very good on this team.
I find it hard to believe there is enough defense here.
The rebounding seems just alright, but Luka does help with that for sure.
I think this is the bottom team of the four I am grading - you hit on some good guys in the middle, but the defense just isn’t there - I’ve lived that life far too many times.

Proxy eval from Midge (by JHSUKOW)

1. Giannis Antomtomtocompo

Where are the minutes? I know this guy is supposed to be great, but he is about as available as my cardiologist. One thing is for sure, he has a lot of heart. Giannis, me, and Eddy Curry. The three biggest hearts in the sim imo.

2. Shawn Kemp

Just not a serious player. Too concerned with his next double cheeseburger and Coke is coming. Also too showy. Dunk the ball and get back on defense. Everytime you point a finger at someone, you have three more pointing at you I also say. Midge fact. Sometimes fingers are called digits and the digits Kemp puts on the scale are high. If you want to get high, Shawn Kemp is selling cannabis these days.

3. Bill Walton

Bill Walton doesn't play a bunch a minutes, but if you have a minute, check this out. It is a Hardy Boys-style book told from Bill Walton's POV. It can be seen it in an episode of Ted Lasso.

4. Jayson Tatum

Some thing NO ONE is talking about is Jayson Tatum is only 25 years old. Jayson Tatum does NOT have that dog in him, so he is actually a little over 3.5. Possible Giannis backup.

5. Russell Westbrook

Westbrook is a cat. So no one knows how old he is. Some good rebounding seasons.

6. Tree Rollins

Not his actual name. Any guesses? Stumped? I don't remember what is, I bet Rob knows his given name. I'll text him. He plays defense which is something I love to root for. I should branch out and talk about savage. He has one decent rebounding season.

7. Alvin Robertson

This guy plays defense and is a sneaky rebounder. This was a great pick and is what Rob is talking about when he mentions the over-indexing of efg in Savage.

8. Josh Smith

What is the point of Josh Smith? I am sorry, but the efg is too low.

9. Kyle Korver

Great efg. Nice pick

10. Josh Hart

Have you seen his tv show on facebook? It is with Jalen Brunson. Josh Hart thinks he needs to kill TJ McConnell. More Hart than Giannis, me, and Eddy Curry combined.

11. Tom Boerwinkle

They don't make them like this anymore. Big man that can pass and rebound; palling around with flying squirrels to beat the Russians. Great pick.

12. Gary Payton II

I don't like picking Gary Payton in the sim. It is weird that Gary Payton Jr. didn't make the NBA but Gary Payton II did. How do you search for him? I can also never find Johnson. Does anyone else have this problem? Why didn't The Glove name them thing 1 and thing 2?
I'm kidding of course. Sending good energy your way after poking a bit of fun.

      • High level thoughts – I like Biedrins but the PF/C D is a little weak and would have been better to get a more defensive big
    • Jcred5
      • US – 48
      • Best picks – Kirilenko, Drexler, Lever
      • Worst picks – Ratliff, Mitchell
      • High level thoughts – Dirk and Gobert is a nice combo, lots of parts to juggle in the backcourt
  • Tier 2 – sleeper title contenders
    • Jhsukow
      • US – 40
      • Best picks – Smith, Payton II, Westbrook
      • Worst picks – Tatum, Robertson, Boerwinkle
      • High level thoughts – Normally a team with sus shooting, god awful turnovers and fouls would make me vomit, but I am too intrigued by the defense and rebounding
    • Riftonapple
      • US – 44
      • Best picks – Poeltl, Pierce, Griffin
      • Worst picks – Murray, Ball, McMillan
      • High level thoughts – I think this team f’d up the backcourt but that frontcourt is just so good
  • Tier 3 – fringe title contenders, likely podium contenders, 5-10 range
    • dBKC
      • US – 47
      • Best picks – Yao, West, Weatherspoon
      • Worst picks – Rondo, Ibaka, Bellamy, Simmons
      • dBKC continues his war on turnovers but the team is a threat from all parts of the court and suits his mad scientist tendencies
    • robusk
      • US – 48
      • Best picks – Carter, Mutombo
      • Worst picks – Johnson, Bamba, HR Williams
      • High level thoughts – Meh shooting and poor rebounding will plague this team, overcompensated trying to get threes
    • tarheel1991
      • US – 39
      • Best picks – Boozer, Roundfield, Moncrief
      • Worst picks – McConnell, Murray, J Johnson, Reed
      • High level thoughts – Thank god Moncrief and Kidd play a lot of minutes because the rest of the guards are butt
    • ncmusician_7
      • US – 37
      • Best picks – Magic, Brand, Ayton
      • Worst picks – Green, Iguodala, Powe, Nelson
      • High level thoughts – Magic will have to pick up the slack for the rest of the guards but the frontline is aces
    • Ashamael
      • US – 40
      • Best picks – K Malone, Oscar, O’Quinn, Green
      • Worst picks – Camby, Barry, Fox, Batum
      • High level thoughts – Oscar plays like 48 mpg so the poopoo platter at SG is not a red alert scenario, forwards will involve a lot of juggling
    • chewy3344
      • US – 33
      • Best picks – Mourning, Parish, Clarke
      • Worst picks – Tobias, M Williams, Ball, Melton, Morant
      • High level thoughts – LeBron plus studs at PF and C is a tough combination to beat but it would have been nice not to have so many wasted picks
  • Tier 4 – good shot at top 10
    • 24kpyrite
      • US – 43
      • Best picks – Faried, Dalembert, OIadipo, Mullin
      • Worst picks – Kyrie, Ward, Hayes
      • High level thoughts – Feels like the last couple picks could have gone better but this team did really well in the middle rounds and should have lots of depth
    • Dh555
      • US – 41
      • Best picks – Amare, Marshall, Millsap
      • Worst picks – Markkanen, B Wallace, T Jones
      • High level thoughts – Great defensive team, shooting doesn’t look awesome, probably light on threes
    • Edsortails
      • US – 42
      • Best picks – Walker, Pressey, Reed
      • Worst picks – Ingles, Moon, Bogut
      • High level thoughts – I suspect shooting could be a real challenge for this team but the defense looks pretty stellar
    • Ty84moss
      • US – 40
      • Best picks – Nurkic, A Johnson, English, Nash
      • Worst picks – Bledsoe, Bane, G Hill
      • High level thoughts – SG/SF looks a little rough but the point and pivot spots look solid
  • Tier 5 – meh
    • Uptowngbv
      • US – 39
      • Best picks – Bynum, Aldridge, McDyess
      • Worst picks – Harper, Gadzuric, Theis, Rodman
      • High level thoughts – Pretty good players to put around Kobe, should be more competitive than last season
    • Berkelon
      • US – 36
      • Best picks – E Jones, Conley, Favors
      • Worst picks – Valanciunas, Looney, Gibson, Green, McCollum
      • High level thoughts – This team is full of players I like in low cap leagues but not so much for high cap leagues, should be efficient scoring team
    • Jethroeg (!!!)
      • US – 47
      • Best picks – McGrady, D Williams, A Hardaway
      • Worst picks – Cooper, McAdoo, Haywood
      • High level thoughts – Jethro is getting better at this. Still far too much usage but lots of talent on the team. Would be cool if he got a ‘ship.
    • PBandJ
      • US – 43
      • Best picks – G Hill, Powell, Wright, Claxton
      • Worst picks – Wood, Sabonis
      • High level thoughts – Improved draft by PBandJ, just too soon and too poor of a fit for a couple of his high picks
    • Steelers821
      • US – 33 (pending last pick)
      • Best picks – Gortat, Varejao, Roy
      • Worst picks – Covington, Anderson, Siakam, D Davis
      • High level thoughts – Love the fit of McHale and Barkley, one of my favorite pairings in WIS but I didn’t like almost any other pick
    • Gerryred
      • US – 39 (pending last pick)
      • Best picks – Price, Sabonis
      • Worst picks – Evans, Anderson
      • High level thoughts – Last few rounds were pretty rough and I thought the first couple were a little reachy. Good value in the middle.
  • Tier 6 – not looking good
    • Midge
      • US – 37
      • Best picks – Rasheed, R Allen, Cheeks
      • Worst picks – Cowens, Howell, Haliburton, Craig
      • High level thoughts – Towns is an awful fit with KAJ and I just generally did not like many of the picks but midge always makes macaroni out of sh** so I am sure he will do fine
    • NotoriousJ
      • US – 37
      • Best picks – Ewing, Porzingis
      • Worst picks – Draymond, Moses Brown, T Young, J Brown
      • High level thoughts – Hard to say what the strategy is with this team, it looks like threes and rebounding maybe? I have a hard time seeing how everything fits together but CP3 and Ewing are so good that they might be able to drag this team to more wins than expected
    • Dontburnearl
      • US – 36
      • Best picks – Mason, Noah, Chriss
      • Worst picks – Holiday, Mobley, Bagley
      • High level thoughts – Welcome back to Savage, hard to jump back in the deep end. Couple big reaches imo and then a lot of picks on people I don’t think of as Savage players. Bird + George is a nice 2/3

I'm pretty stupidly busy right now and apologize in advance if I hold things up. I'll try to keep up and proxy when possible, but man, I'm stretched in so many directions currently. I should probably sit this one out but can't go out like I just did.

Midge should be arrested because he just stole Kareem
2/21/2024 3:04 PM
I *should* have taken Kareem instead of Jokic. I've just never been able to build well around Kareem.
2/21/2024 3:11 PM
I could argue with his usage, efg, defense and minutes, he should be going #4
2/21/2024 3:13 PM
Both Kareem and Jokic are major steals imo

I like the spot for Kareem, am so-so on Jokic. I had a hard time picking between KD or AD. Win% certainly favors AD and I've had success with him in the past, but I wanted to try out a KD build.

When I left the house for a meeting at work: Kareem, Jokic, Harden, Durant all still on the board with only five picks before mine. I really wanted to give Harden another shot but thought Durant was the most likely (with AD gaining popularity and Mailman still being absurdly good for this level), so started building a cool team around him in my mind with who would likely be available Heart broken.

I don't like Kareem THAT much, as he's a 100% center only guy like Shaq, but he has some mid 90s PF there so can slide for defense in theory whereas Shaq couldn't, so ... 13 is, indeed, absurd for him. Jokic should probably be going in the 13-17 realm right now. Next season, though, hmmm...

Also:
3 of the first 5 picks are guards.
4 of the first 7.

Every pick that wasn't a guard in that run is understandable, but it's the guard first squads that scare me the most. The owners have something to do with that.

Has anyone had success with Kareem as their building block in Savage?

Best finishes are 5, 9 and 10.
2/21/2024 4:08 PM
Damn, Karl Malone has done way worse here than I thought. Average of 15 finish with best ever being 7? Already done ****** up.

Eh I think he is better than he is being treated personally. I would take him where you did.
2/21/2024 4:27 PM
feels like the turn just doesn't have 3s. unless you want to reach. At least not a lot. I know bird and a couple comping up have some.

kareem was the first ever pick in savage!

seems crazy now but i thought it made sense at the time...i still view him as a top 10 guy

did quite well with him too...all 5 teams made the playoffs and i finished 5th overall

this was before the def upgrade too...i think that may have messed up some owners when picking his seasons...the 100 d is nice but if hes not giving me the usg i want and the rebounding is putrid, its not worth it imo
