Capital Athletic Conference: Year 12-pres Topic

The reality of your situation is that you are top-heavy on minutes. You aren't worse or better, you just give more minutes/stats to your top players than the other best teams.

Let's compare your team stats to the other top teams:

TEAM PPGF PPGA RPGF RPGA TPGF TPGA FG%F FG%A

Catholic 95.6 69.2 46.0 26.7 12.1 14.5 50.7% 40.3%

Goucher 86.1 80.1 38.5 36.9 13.6 14.4 46.5% 43.1%

Marymount 87.6 82.0 38.8 38.5 13.1 13.5 47.2% 42.7%

Mary Washington 87.6 82.0 38.8 38.5 13.1 13.5 47.2% 44.9%

There isn't much different between you and the teams you are competing against (behind the mighty Catholic Cardinals) in terms offensive or defensive efficiency, turnovers, and only barely (to Goucher) in rebounding margin, where O'Kelley makes up for your non-Priolo big men's deficiency.

It appears the reason you get individual plaudits greater than your team acheivement is a by-product of your heavy front-end minutes/distribution, which may or may not be the most efficient deployment of your minutes and shots. That determination would take more information and familiarity than I have with your team.

Keeping plugging away, the games between Goucher, MW, MM, SMM, and Baptist should all be close, fun and anyone who goes takes care of business against everyone else and goes 2 over .500 in those is probably going to back into at least the PIT, if not the Big Dance.

Keep in mind, though I can spout off about my team locking up a spot at the dance this year, I'm only returning 5 next year, and, they are a miserable defensive lot. My time on the bubble will be here soon.

Looks like Hood is in the midst of it's customary 4th year disaster. Glad I didn't stick around for that.

After a season off, I signed up to coach in DII next season. Hopefully I'll see some of the old CAC coaches there. Would love to get another crack at andrew ; )

still kicking myself for not taking Hood as far as they could have!

I'm CAC for life, Phi. I'm in two worlds and decided that in one I'd stay and try to create a DIII dynasty while in the other I'd try to move up to DI. I'm in DII now in World 2, but, again, I'm CAC for life here in world I.

Note the brutal north battle between Goucher, Marymount, Salisbury, and MW for 2nd place and between Baptist, BMill, and York for 1st in the South.

You also have the stark reality of wondering how good Villa Julie would have been without their creative recruiting.

The tourney will determine the fate of SMM, Baptist and Marymount, who each need some W's to get into postseason play. Anyone else needs to win it all to dance.

yes, Hood certainly is no cream puff job for a rookie like me. Painful intro.

What do you serve as a side to someone who is going to eat their shorts?

I'll say it again. Never underestimate BMill.

Side of gym socks. However, bowing out in the first round of the PIT is almost like not making the PIT. I think I can get out of this one. GL Andrew. Bring home another one.

It'll be tough. I've got another tough opponent in the Sweet 16. I think the bracket favorites have prevailed so far in this tourney much more than in the previous DIII dances I've been in.

Catholic University hoops is all about team. The lack of individual plaudits don't mean anything to my guys. If they looked at DEF at all, Keith would be 1st team. The selection of Nathan Jackson as 3rd team C over my boy Powell is also a little strange.

Juan O'Kelley for first team all-conference! Woot! I recruited him back in the day.

<sniff> I'm so proud.

Coach FRANCE takes the podium:

"What can I say about these graduating seniors? Perhaps the best testament to their value is that before they came here Catholic had managed 1 20 win season in its history. In the last 3 years they have won 80 games.

Every one of the 6 players graduating appears on more than 1 list of the CUA all-time leaders. To list, this class contains the student-athletes 1, 3, and 5 on the scoring list; 1 and 2 on the rebounding list; 1 and 2 on the assist list; 1, 2, and 3 on the block list; 1, 4, and 5 on the steal list; 4, 5 on the FG % list; 2, 3, and 4 on the 3 pt % list; and 3 and 4 on the FT % list.

You ask me to tell you the history of CUA basketball, and I would simply give you the names of Alan McCray, Robbie Keith, Michael Powell, Eric Nowak, "Ice" Villagomez, and William Aquino.

Their mark on this program? Indelible.

Their place in history? Irreplaceable.

Their performance as students and athletes? Impeccable.

If you are looking for award winners, you can look elsewhere. Only one of them even was ever named for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd team all-conference. If you are looking for winners, though, your search can start and end with the class of year 12. I feel privileged for getting to work with such fine men and players."

Good - makes life for me that much easier if they can't be replaced. :)
