Capital Athletic Conference: Year 12-pres Topic

Well, I guess the formula likes CUA and Hood.  Frankly, I'll be ecstatic with 14 wins (and a sure #1 seed if I got those)
I fixed the logic that had blanked out the JRs and SRs.  Thanks for the note, Russell T.

15-1, RPI 4.  What they've got: a ton of just short of elite talent.  No one else in the country can match 8 600+ OVR players.  Their AVG PE and LP are both top-10.  When Vallee is your 8th best player, you are more peaks than Valleys.  What they don't have: any big with ATH over 45 or any lockdown defender.  What's new: FR Daniel Gil is a sorry G who may end up useful.  His ATH and DEF are Fishy; his starting PE was off the Scale, but his SPD (+7, still blue) and PE improvement (+11!) could make him at least a useful shooter.  Coyle is the RS.  He's blue in SPD, BLK (heading to 95+), and DEF.  His REB will peak just short of 90 which is nice; his LP won't Snake past 50 which means he needs to be paired with a scorer.

11-5, RPI 30.  What they have: the most unique G profile in the conference (Moody) who doubles as a defensive stopper unlike the CAC has ever seen before.  Salisbury also features a great 2 guard (Lee), and a multitude of great athletes (without the walkon, the average ATh would be almost 60).  What they lack: elite rebounding (their 3rd highest REB is in the 40's) and backup G's (the 3rd highest speed is 62).  What's new: Operation Touchstone looks like a near-elite G; his DC passport reads "Warren Griffin," only lacking elite SPD.  As you can see in plain English, Germann's RS season treated him well from ratings, but he's got no LP (literally) and even with upside, his REB isn't going to be good; he really only plays as a stretch SF.  To call Fraire crazy unique isn't being Fair.  Check out the starting ATH... with high REB/DEF/BLK/LP, even with the low start in all but DEF, he plays as many minutes as you can before he's Tuck-ered out.  Penn's Station is as the last newcomer.  His profile is pretty easy to Teller; well rounded profile with decent starting ratings; big upside where it counts.  Conley us a very nice 2 year solution at SF.  He's Triple Jumping up in SPD/REB/DEF/P/BH and might get 700 before he graduates.

6-10, RPI 77.  What he's got: a shiny NT trophy.  Good D ratings up and down the roster.  A lot of youth.  What he doesn't have: A veteran worth worrying about (I'm looking at you Sylvester Clark, I am, I am, I am).  A 2nd player with a PE or LP rating over 60.  What's new: Check out Edelman's G improvements in SPD, DEF, and PE.  True FR Pineiro will make his pitch for SF minutes with big upside in ATH and PE.  The two FR bigs are really the key to Edelman's future title hopes.  Hernandez only has upside in ATH and REB, but that's what he needs the most.  General McClellan is the important candidate for CPoY; he's got good upside across the board (+40) and likely something close to sky's the limit in LP (+7).  With the right big man recruit next year, the pieces are in place for another deep run.

9-9, RPI 53.  What they have: Good ATH/SPD combos in the backcourt.  Top to bottom defenders.  What they don't have: Any SF's, P/BH depth, quality big man depth.  What's new: there are some really good improvement patterns here: McGuire has been linked to some REP - Rating Enhancing Potential (+8 or more in SPD, LP, PE, BH, P); RS Bowen is also pretty neat; if the REB was +3 instead of -3, he wouldn't have to elBowin' in for playing time at SF.  Brandenberger's Gate is the better of the two FR; Grace is his lesser compatriot.  Not a bad pair, but both need more than a little Grace to score since neither will see an LP over 40.

13-4, RPI 10.  What they have: Mr. Inside (Don Ward) as well one of 5 bigs with ATH's over 50.  Really good defense.  Several good PE options.  A JUCO who fells well short of normal MW standards.  What they don't have: Enough elite players.  Multiple passers.  What's new: I don't need to be Judicious about Roberts-- he is one of the best young G profiles (High in SPD, PE, BH, P); in the name of Justice, the key will be how high his SPD gets.  Morganti has a great baseline and is high in ATH and PE.  If he gets 50/70 to go with his 80 PE, it will take more than a Kissing Bandit to slow down his shooting.

16-8, RPI 41.  What they have: A great starting back court including 2250+ scorer Christopher Dry… and a bunch of young front court talent that will be really good in two seasons.  Solid athleticism and defense.  What they don't have: a 3rd G whose passing rating is within 10 points of their FR SF.  Think about that.  REB at the SF position.  What's new: a lot.  5 trur FR.  RS FR Ruby looks like a diamond in the rough.  Check out his improvements in ATH (+9), SPD (+12), PE (+16), and P (+17... to get to 31).  Stevens is Even better potentially.  Neither is ready for prime time next year, but both will need to be.  If they could find a MW-level JUCO, they'd benefit.  The two SF's are split on PE (Wilson) and LP (Kratzer), but well-rounded otherwise.  Kratzer looks like the bigger star with +46 OVR as a FR.  Mr. Clark is a Clear and Present Danger as a big; capable of filling in Without Remorse due to a nice base at LP, REB, and ATH.  Only the REB has upside, but with upside at D and BLK, he should be a nice, if not spectacular player.  Lakey is the bigger deal as a scorer.  He's got mad upside in LP (+16) and ATH (+6).  He's a nice complement to Mr. Clark.

12-12, RPI 47.  What they have: A group of elite ATH/DEF guys at SF and bigs, 3 worthwhile G's, 2 elite REB/BLK/LP bigs.  What they don't have: a 4th G, 11th or 12th men, a 2nd perimeter scorer who is any threat, a big or SF with even a semblance of BH/P skills (highest combined is 33; 2nd is 27.  Yikes!).  What's new: The only true FR is Griffin, who starts as a Door defensively (low ATH and DEF base), but looks high across the big man skills.

8-16, RPI 119.  What they have: 2 conference wins, 1 elite big (Seawright), 2 scoring G's, pretty good defense, and some big improvement numbers (3 +90 OVR)  What they lack: backcourt speed (only 2 G's over 50), a second big of any quality.  What's new: RS FR Smith is obviously heading to at least a 700 OVR at SF.  I was checking out Yanks' Johnson-- I' like the ATH/SPD/DEF Package, but I don't know how much it plays, particularly regular minutes.  As the only G in his class, at some point that will be needed.  The bigs are nice; even with their low LP base, their big upsides there as well as elsewhere (ATH, SPD, REB, BLK for Slusher; DEF, BLK for Rector) means that by the time the Prior group graduates, Yanks won't have to scrape the bottom of the Slushee barrel.

4-20, RPI 179.  What they have: two NT-run capable bigs, good D ratings with some elite defenders.  What they don't have: any passing.  Any.  My 1986 Ford Escort was more capable of passing than this team is.  That they run a FB offense is a cruel, cruel twist.  They also lack G depth.  What's new: there are some good young players; Bentley and Hosier have one more year to play with the improving youngsters.  Check out the improvements (6 different players >+10 in REB) across the board.  The only try FR (White), has a nice base and is big potential in SPD, REB, DE, and PE.  That may not be enough to kill the rabbit, but he should be functional as a PF.

15-9, RPI 91.  What he's got: a bunch of pretty good player, 2 90+ PE's, Good BH, good passing SFs and bigs.  What he doesn't have: any 50+ passer, G depth, a 2nd 60+ SPD guy, good ST, elite ATHs.  What's new: RS FR Tibbetts blew up (+94 OVR) from a good REB, low/med everything else base.  This Birdie will fly high as a star by his JR year.  The true FR are not as good.  Dyer is a reasonable proxy for a generic PG (like CUA's FR Gil): low ATH, low DEF, decent base with good upside on G skills.  Shiflet's harder to find used for.  His base ATH/DEF is good, but without REB and no potential on a low base passing, he doesn't really have any place to hide.

23-2, RPI 10.  What they have: an 11-0 road record; major inside depth; 2 well-rounded elite G's; a nice inside-outside SF pairing.  What they don't have: Elite SF rebounding?  A big who can make FT's?  Maybe they don't make their beds.  I don't know, but this team is pretty good, clearly Geoff's best since his championship team.  What's new: Konieczny is the CAC's year over year improvement leader by a landslide, the first SR to pull that off.  That's Junior as the best as a Senior.  Check out RS FR Burns' improvement (+25 PE!?!, +17 BH, +11 ATH).  For a team with no true FR, Burns will definitely have some games when he's on Fire before he's done.

17-8, RPI 36.  What they have: Some Brawn, one big time shooter (McCombs), and one NT-level G (Zerck), and a cool SF profile (Eccleston-- 70 REB, 61 SPD, 61PE)  What they don't have:  a 2nd G who can pass; a lower classman to get excited by, any elite rebounding.  What's new: the Koz is a real PG (SPD, ATH, DEF, BH, P seem high); RS Sing and FR McLester (Hello, McLester!) had their Densities bring them to be paired as shooters to match on the Kozby Show.  Though others may Feud the point, you can picture Dawson developing into a good big; he's already a bit of a Running Man and looks like he's high in ATH, REB, DEF, and LP.  Survey Says 40/40/80/80 guys seem to do okay in the current engine.

18-3, RPI 2.  By Class: 4-2-2-4.  Leading scorers: Bell (16.5), Washington (11.9).  Improvements: Gil is a looking like a new incarnation of the G skills, low ATH, low D guys that seem to Surface every few years (see McGuire at Goucher). The only other thing that jumps out is that McManus got just enough ATH to be the inside threat after Washington graduates; he didn't exactly strike the Publishers Clearinghouse Sweepstakes, but can hang.  Newcomers: the best guys since the Griffin, Vallee, Washington, Jackson triumverate.  Salters is will require a little Seasoning, but will be a very, very nice SG, heading for 80 SPD, 90 PE, 80 BH.  Barring unforeseen circumstances, Tilley will be a very solid big.  He's still green in ATH, REB, BLK, P, and ST (which hopefully will get over 55 soon).  Lukavsky is a decent SF; should be decent at everything but DEF.

12-9, RPI 42.  By class: 3-2-4-1 (2 walkons).  Leading scorers: Malbrough (16.5), Boomer (16.0).  Improvements: Lots of good stuff here.  Check out Fraire's improvements in REB/DEF/BLK/LP to go with his elite ATH.  A monster in the making.  Penn is the conference improvement leader, the only triple digit guy in hte CAC.  The Penn/Fraire combo is ridiculous.  Newcomers: The only FR is a good one.  Henson is +63 as a FR, high in everything but REB and LP.  He may go Under Cover with the two bigs a class ahead of him, but will likely end up on 21 PPG Street as a senior, head to stop since his SPD is heading north of 80.

13-8, RPI 40.  By Class: 2-3-3-4.  Leading scorers: Fisher (18.4), Lavalle (15.9).  Improvements: General McClellan's taken the leap his sophomore year.  The ATH/REB/LP improvements will leave him splitting the Big Man Presidency ticket with the Salisbury Sophomore studs.  The across the board PE improvements are inspiring as well.  Newcomers: Falcone must have pulled some mob connections to get a scholly.  He's got upside in SPD, PE, and, BH, but the base isn't great and there's not much else.  The two bigs, on the other hand, are dynamite.  Harper his big upside in REB, SPD, and LP-- he's a CUA big of the George Washington mold.  Forman's got a nice base and upside in ATH, REB, and BLK.  If you Grilled me, I'd take a Row of Harper's due to the SPD, but both are winners.

13-10, RPI 66.  By class: 3-3-2-4.  Improvements: Brown's improvements are nice, moving his G skills up to passable.  Brandenberger is just LP short of having the Works as a big.  Unfortunately, the other bigs are not picking up enough LP to give Koop an inside threat next year.  A high LP guy needs to be priorities next year.  Newcomers: The PE void that McGuire will leave is being filled by Grover who will be the shooting Monster at the end of this story.  Lester looks like a decent enough big, more or Lesster; he's already +11 in REB, +9 in DEF.  Turner's got a nice skill base and is coming along in his low areas.

12-12, RPI 56.  By class: 2-0-4-4 (2 walkons).  Improvements: Weber's coming along great; he's ready to Grill the opposition yet, but he will be.  To think of Roberts as any less than Mr Outside to Weber's Mr. Inside wouldn't do him Justice.  Newcomers: This is a great, great class.  Better than any the CAC's seen since the group that became aejones' championship core.  Sheldon's the most fun of the profiles.  He may have to sit in his special spot on the couch, but will make a Big Band when his high potential in REB (60 is in sight), PE (80's in play) and DEF (60+) matches up with his 68 ATH.  Glaser isn't as neat a profile, but it's Clear to see he's the best of the bunch.  With high ATH, DEF, PE (+14) and P, he'll be good at everything but cleaning the Glass.  Royal's high in ATH/SPD/REB, but isn't Flush with the other G skills.  Rutledge is also a beast, high in ATH, SPD, REB, and DEF.  He's not getting above 50 in LP, but pairs nicely with Weber.

10-14, RPI 86.  By Class: 1-2-5-4.  Improvements: Stevens' jumps out the most, and rightfully so.  It might not be a Genie who seemed to increase his skills (importantly even DEF) in a Blink, but it happened.  Lakey's LP improvement is the other story.  He's obviously sky's the limit and heading for 80+.  Ruby's also a gem with high/high PE, ATH, and P.  That ATH/DEF/PE skill set is the type that can play for a title.  Newcomers: the "White Falcon" Fred Barnes will be about as good as you can be as a 53 REB big. Ippolito and Manriquez are a nice backcourt pair-- both have nice skill bases and are green in the G skills and DEF.  This team scares me for the next two years.  Between them and Gallaudet and Salisbury and MW, Goucher and I are going to have a hard time winning 8 conference games the next few years.

19-5, RPI 15.  By Class: 4-3-1-4.  Improvements: Conkle is the monster here.  The only comfort is that his BLK and BH won't be that high.  Everything else will.  With that ATH and D, he can reduce any other SF to a Shell of his former self-- the unfair part is that he'll also be able to rebound, shoot, and pass.  There's a lot of good stuff with Vieira who is becoming a great true PG.  Griffin's the other beaut, picking up enough ATH and LP to already be effective as a RS FR.  Newcomers: The three FR are pretty easy to describe: Willis is sort of a Diff'rent Strokes play-- immediate shooting ability but will never have elite G SPD.  Holiman is not a total Saint (his base levels aren't great), but his potential could Set him Apart as a backup to Conkle.  Trainer, similarly, has mediocre base, but needs some Training to be great.

17-7, RPI 35.  By Class: 3-3-3-3.  Improvements: No one has more 60+ improvement guys than the Thumpers.  Slusher is my favorite.  He looks like he's heading for over 50/50 in ATH and SPD; with 70+ LP in his future (and passable BH), I think he can score 20+ ppg with a nice FG%.  More importantly, with Rector and Smith, Yanks has the front court of a F4 team.  Unfortunately, the backcourt situation is not as nice.  Johnson's a decent ATH/D guy, but not a passer.  Newcomers: King isn't Lebron.  He's just another ATH/D guy.  Levis is like a great pair of Jeans-- a little stiff when new, but should fit comfortably in once he gets worn in, his Potential is very high.  One other note: check out the FR shooting ratings -- perfectly descending from the top to bottom players.

12-14, RPI 83.  By class: 2-4-3-2 (1 walk on).  Improvements: Woodland is a keeper when a human takes over next year.  He reminds me of a Hood-type 2 Guard.  The JRs are good enough to make a playoff run next year.  Newcomers: the Sophomore with no improvement Means Means is a transfer.  The +12 PE/+8 BH Means he'll be one Mean scorer.  The 7/+1 on DEF Means he'll well below the Mean on that end of the court.  The True FR who the Sim brought in are both awful and will need to be cut, Marshall's base isn't so bad-- he might fit into the future Plan of the new coach, but it's unlikely that Marshall, Marshall, Marshall is all we'll ever hear.

16-10, RPI 80.  By class: 3-3-3-3.  Improvements: Tibbetts was the #2 OVR improvement guy in the CAC.  This little Birdie's going to end up looking like the bigs I've been successful with at CUA; high SPD, decent ATH, no gaping holes.  Tolley actually out-non-DU gained Tibbetts.  His BH is going to be monsterous; he and Tibbetts should be an interesting study how much that matters.  The other number that jumps out is Wilsons' +30 PE, the highest of anyone in the CAC in any single category... by 7. The newcomers: Errico's base is sub-par, but he's got upside across the board and should be fine once he gets in the Flow.  Shiflet's got nice upside (+54, +15LP, +6SPD), but won't get to 50 REB before his SR year.  The last FR, Freddie Jones is the type of profile that seems to getting more common and Drumming up some interest.  35/35/90/90 on ATH/SPD/REB/LP.  There are more and more of these Rocking the Schools of the CAC.  They never should start, but they are great 3rd/4th bigs rather than a 50 REB guy.

16-10, RPI 35.  By Class: 3-4-1-4.  Improvements: Burns is the Hot one of the returners; that's a dynamic scorer profile, highlighted by nicer DEF/ATH than most of his profile; his opponents won't get off Scot free.  No one is making the P advances to fill the Walsh-sized hole at PG.  Newcomers: Hull's Skating along as a FR, green in ATH/SPD/PE/BH/DEF.  It doesn't take Sherlock to figure out that Holmes is going to be pretty good; he's going to be 70/50/90/75 in ATH/SPD/REB/LP.  The last two bigs are also going to be very good.  Boomer's base is great; he's high in REB, BLK, LP, close in SPD, DEF.  I wish I found a guy like this when I was playing Big Man Hunter last cycle.  Maser 's base isn't as good, but he's got more upside.  Maybe when he's older he'll train someone with ever more potential who will save Earth from the Formics; only time will tell.

15-11, RPI 23.  By class: 2-3-3-4.  Improvements: There are some decent improvements here (Zerck 's PE, Goldenstein's LP/PE, McLester's RS season improvements, Bailey's REB and LP, Davis' LP), but no role except PG (Kozlovsky and Flythe) is definitely filled where everyone else is projected.  Newcomers: Crim is another one those low ATH/SPD (with upside), high REB guys; he's sky's the limit in LP, but the lowish ATH will Crimp his style.  Flythe is high in PE, SPD, and P.  He's got the baseline essentials to be an OK PG, but can't Fly past The role.  Adkins' is a little more interesting.  Low in SPD (maybe he needs a diet), but high-high in the G skills.  If they get to 70/80/70, he works out; SMM needs him to have at least that PE to play SG.
