Formula Predictions, Season 59
Interesting that it doesn't totally hate on MW for it's terrible average due to its high 600+ players.
It likes a comeback from York in conference play.

8-4, RPI 24.  Captain Creagh is now up to #6 on CUA's all time assist list; he should get past #3, #1 is an outside possibility.  This team is good enough to make the NT, but not make too much noise without the right (read press) opponent.  I like the prognosis for next year, but the team will go from Creagh's passing artistry to only 1 guy over 65.  The FR "PG" is a pure SG who will go 90 SPD/90 PE, but not much else.  "I see you are using the Taliaferro technique."  "I thought it appropriate given the rocky ratings."  Dressler is still fun to check out; his REB and LP are still green, so he really could become an impact player next season.  Moore is bringing More PE and SPD by the year (and still green in both).  McKeag's the other improvement worth checking out.  The Fact of Life are that if you have sub 15 ATH and DE you better be good in everything else, and McKeag's +14/+10/+22 on the G splits make him very good.

10-3, RPI 26.  Hulburt is #9 on the REB chart for the Steaks with a pretty good shot at #3.  The team is a legit NT team with a decent shot of getting to the S16.  The ATHs are there, the D is close, and the G's and Hulburt are good enough to carry a team.  This team loses a lot and next year will be close, but you can see the foundation of the next NT team with the improvements here; Neal looks like a SF of some value; Moore is a Man for Three Seasons of major run with great ATH and improving SPD and PE.  Allen has improvement still to make in all the right places as a big.  The next recruiting class will determine this team's next deep run.

7-5, RPI 44.  The Defending National Champion.  The race to 14 W's and an NT appearance will be close.  Gay is 5th on GU's all time BLK list (with Hinderberger not far behind); both have a chance to get into the top 2; Gay's total is notable since he's the only non-PF/C on the list.  The 5 FR make the base for the next F4-type GU squad.  Boy George is the Chameleon of the bunch; he starts looking like a pass/def PG, but with +8 PE so far this year, he is destined for all-around usefulness.  Madsen is more of a Hybrid, bringing more D than O to the equation.  I see Armstrong's profile and I think to myself, What a Wonderful player, with a great base and green in the G categories.  Salesky is the RS; you can see his improvement; he'll be lowish BH/P, but with a lot to like everywhere else.  The big (Boles) hadly blows you over, but you'll be able to spoon a double dose of D when he brings his Bowl of Defense to the table.

7-6, RPI 74.  Two seniors, one a Householder name, the other less important.  This team's NT window is biggest next year, returning 10 and with a half-dozen NT-level players.  Making the PIT this year is probably a 50/50 proposition.  The neatest irmpvement pattern is Ashman who has risen from the Ashes of of guard irrelevance to a nice SF profile with mad (73!) LP and soon to be 40+ REB to go with his nice ATH/SPD combo.  Also worth mentioning is the Foreman, who the jury is no longer out on.  He will be a force, despite single digit speed.  The ATH (soon to be 50+), REB (90 in sight) and LP (mid 60's by next year) all complement an elite DEF/BLK profile.  The Faris (I see Faris, So says FRANCE, I see someone who might steal your pants) and Patrick look like a decent but duplicative pair of SFs (since Patrick RSed in this class, I'd have liked to see Faris pushed back a class).  The Sewell RS might work out since he looks like he's got some big REB/DEF improvement (+6/+6 so far).

10-3, RPI 24.  Not bad for a team with 8 scholarship players; I guess it would have been more impressive if he had RS'ed his one FR (Kelly and Grim are the JUCOs).  The real soldier on this squad is Raynor (+24PE?) who is 90+ PE and SPD and handles the scoring load with saving humanity from the Zerg.  Howard (a, ATH/DEF SF, no matter if Aunt Bea wants to call him a G) is the only SR, so the core here can add 2 or 3 pieces and make a deep run next year.  Peloquin is the other improvement pattern worth noting (+93 OVR, 3rd in the conference).  Russell T will get to reap the harvest from Saterfiel's next 4 years.  He's an impressive +36 so far as a FR (+5/+3 in ATH/SPD; +5 REB; +6 BLK)

he's intense?) is +95 (#2 in CAC) with a bold +14 in REB.  If either PE or LP had gotten to the 50's, he'd be one of the best SF's of recent CAC vintage.  As is, he's just the best defensive SF in the CAC.  The P ratings aren't great up and down the list which could cost them if they meet up with the wrong press team early in the dance.  They other thing that meshes really nicely on this squad is it has depth with the bigs where his STs are mediocre, but not at G  where you have Gray's 100 ST (!) and Braswell's 86.  The RS FR King made major strides in REB and now projects with a chance at conference royalty.  Lewis is +6 P/+6 PE this year and should pair nicely with Braswell as the PG combo next year.  If he can avoid getting distracted by Julia Roberts, Edward Lewis should play, likely a 70/70/70/70 in SPD and the G skills.  Kevin Wheaton won't be a Crusher with his relatively low ATH destination, but his 4-year voyage will end with having one of the best REB/DEF combos in The Next Generation.

8-7, RPI 36.  York went 4-6 in noncon and looks more like a R32/S16 team than their normal E8 self.  That's the consequence of no P rating over 50 and 3 FT G's.  There is a lot to like long term.  Howard looks like he's heading for 80's in the G skills after RSing (his +109 OVR was the CAC high).  There are 3 non-SRs who are 75+ LP.  The SF pairing brings back the complementary inside/outside combo.  Speaking of Economies of scale, check our Voekler's +10 SPD, REB, and BLK.  How much upside is left in that REB will determine his worth.  The 3 scholarship FR are a mixed bag; Mills doesn't look like he has a prize in his proverbial cereal box; he's high in SPD, DEF, PE, and BH but is so low to start in PE and BH and won't see the high side of 30 on P.  LaBombard is high in ATH, PE, and P; that plays, but he won't see 70 SPD; he's very, very nice, but just shy of being Da Bomb.  Flynn Has a Dream; that is to be Tangled up in the discussion for the best big in the CAC.  He's plus huge in ATH, SPD, REB, and ginormous in LP.

13-3, RPI 14.  This level of success with 6 FR is confirmation that McCabe's rebuild is done; sustained excellence is the new norm.  Dinkins is #14 in Thumper history in assists and should break into the Top 10.  The SR improvements are actually pretty impressive (Carballo +22 LP; Lewis +9/11/7 in the G cats).  If the RS FR is Fredericksen, I'd hate to see Frederick's Dad.  With the ST rapidly getting into line, he's already useful as a FR and with upside across the board.  Another way to look at it is, if he's had this much improvement with his low WE, how high can he go when the WE gets in the 30's.  It's no Mystery who the best true FR is.  Higgins has a decent base, WE and looks like he has potential exactly where you want it.  The other FR who jumps out is Kennedy; we can start the conspiracy theories about Rusty Russ and 2nd shooters if he ever gets to 500 OVR.  It'll be a long time before you see another big with 1 LP and 4 WE.  With his ATH and DEF, he can play decent minutes at PF and SF without hurting you, I guess.  Myatt's the best of the rest, but more a regional carrier than Mama Bell.

7-9, RPI 137.  The Hillians won't be dancing this year as they break in 4 FR and 4 Sophs.  I think this is an NT/PIT team next year.  Check out the the improvements to the ATH, REB, ST, and MUSIC ratings of Handel and the SPD, REB, and LP of VJ-RIP, the player.  They will pair nicely with true PG Broom and future trip-70 in ATH/SPD/DEF SF Burks to give CH 4 true NT caliber players as soon as next year.  Among the FR SG quartet, you have the ATH/DEF stylings of Rolls Whittaker; the shooting excellence of "He's on" Ferreira; the future SF game of Vogt (Mission Impossible for him to pass well enough to play G); and the presumptive future SG starter, Mark Williams.

17-4, RPI 42 (S curve 34).  Should be good to make the NT unless there is an epic collapse.  Taylor #14 all time in scoring (may get to 10); #3 in assists (should end there).  The troika of Johanson (+29 PE, 99 OVR), Overton (+10/+11 ATH/SPD, +23 REB, +87 OVR), and Holstein (+8 to 12 in 7 categories) is the top "top 3" of any CAC team.  Even without exceptional ATH, Holstein isn't Cowed by anyone inside and another NT team is slated for next year, but lack of ATH and DEF all around limits VJ-RIPs deep NT ability.  The FR all have their merits.  Whitlow is green in all the right places (SPD, P, BH, PE) as well as LP, but he'll be hard to handle, but lacks the DEF or ATH and Business Ethics to be truly elite; no wonder Billy Madison's dad wouldn't give him his company. His low in ATH and LP will keep Brooks from being Blazing Saddles, but is high in everything else so Life hardly Stinks.  Chapman looks high in ATH, REB, LP, and DEF.  The starting points are not that high, but he'll be formiddable before he graduates.

7-14, RPI 92.  78 on S curve.  Geoff just won a title in another world, so don't mourn for him, but this Hood team just doesn't have it.  I don't know if the PIT run will likely be that deep.  I don't love the sophomores, but they will be NT quality next year.  The RS FR's ratings are Racing along , well balanced improvement. If he's got another 30 of REB, I'm buying, though the low BLK is a bit disturbing.  The FR are highlighted by Professor Plumb who looks like he will do it on the court with a basketball (+6 ath, +6 SPD, +7 LP and PE) and David Franklin who brings some electricity to The Hood with his ridiculous +68 OVR to date (with no flaws).  Worth also noting is Gauthier's gaudy REB and BLK numbers, helping a front court that needed a dose of both.

17-5, RPI 24 (S curve 11).  Lewis 14th in assists; he might crack the top 10.  Thorpe is obviously, the All American Hero, when it comes to his improvements; he's still got a 150+ points of improvement left.  Since Berg and he are still both blue in REB, there is a disturbing trend of 70+ REBing SFs for SMM.  Starting with the Catcher/Spy, Berg is medium improvement everywhere and will make a decent, but nice REB SF.  Cameron Tincher is the most Titanic of the FR, green in G categories and medium in SPD.  The FR bigs will be useful b/c they are both "sky's the limit" in LP and are both good REBers.  Lombardo will start to make music on the court once his green ATH kicks in; Glover will be more of a Lethal Weapon as his high P and BH continue to grow.

Professor Plumb on the court with the basketball is great stuff. But, I am embarrassed by this team. I thought Jarrett and Leamon would have grown better.

12-2, RPI 7.  Slightly overperforming to date; this is clearly not an E8 team, much less a S16.  Like its leader (Wojtanowski -- no nicknames permitted), it seems to score efficiently at levels beyond what you'd expect.  The magic on both levels has to run out sooner or later.  The bad news is that things aren't better last year when we lose the two bigs and the only elite guard on the roster (Searles).  Thompson was the only passably passing G I scouted.  He's high in PE was in SPD (target = 79).  Taliaferro has had a Rocky start shooting, drawing more Iron than nylon.  The RS FR needs to shoot well b/c he's not bringing much else to the table.  Kim was as a big signing was important to fill the LP void with the SR bigs graduating.  The Naked Truth is that while this team may be his Mafia by the time he's a Junior, unless his High SPD and REB are really high, his low DE/BLK package make him another defensive liability on a team filled with them.

9-6, RPI 13.  I can't decide if the PRI is the product of brilliant scheduling or not; I Gess it’s the former unless the Steaks fall short of 14 W's.  The ATH stands out on this roster.  Props to ae for the signing of 3-year player Booth; his Shooting may be Killer from any range and useful, but his passing was much needed, making his BH shortcomings Pardonable.  The true FR are a mixed bag; I'm leary of Leary's microscopic P and lowish G skills, even if he'll get to Neal-like ATH/SPD/DEF.  I imagine he'll throw up a "Rescue Me" when he's trapped whether televised on CTV or not.  Manders is the star of the bigs; +46 already this season; the LP looks capped around 50, but if the REB is high-high he's still a great big, if not, The Colonel could still make things work at SF.  The other bigs are + big where it counts and start with high ATH's.  They are a liabilities this year and next, but could be the basis of a F4/E8 run as JRs (with Booth, Moore, and Manders).

9-5, RPI 28.  The other team on 14-win watch; I'm buying them as an eventual 11 seed.  There is only 1 SR, but he's a monster; not a speed Merchant, but skilled in all the good big man ways.  There is a definite ATH/SPD profile Edelman is looking for in his G's; humorous in its monotony.  Check out the improvement profiles among the Sophs.  George and Armstrong look like an F4 level backcourt; Salesky has sold me at a SF (565 OVR as a Soph!).  Boles projects pretty close as one big, so the real issue is whether one of the FR can be that 5th starter.  Francis is better of the two; with the great baseline ATH, he's green in REB, DEF, BLK, and LP.  How green that LP is might be the difference between an E8 and a possible title team.

10-4, RPI 75.  Koop hopefully will put together enough wins to get this team into the PIT, though they are a big short and the SF platoon hasn't improved as much as you'd like.  By contrast, RS FR Sewell can't be Ripped for his lack of improvement; check out the +16 REB and DEF; the LP won't get much above 50, but the package plays.  The true FR sounds like a pair of European vacation destinations.  Monico has a nice Perimeter, but lacks any other elite skill.  Helfenstein looks like he has more upside, but doesn't project to the level of either of the JR G's.  This year's recruiting class needs to add a big to the mix and needs to get a true all-around G skill player to take over as a Sophomore.

14-2, RPI 3.  The 5 SRs and 1 JR on this squad are a great basis for a F4 quality team.  The Sophomore is very good and still improving (the +96 OVR is #2 in the CAC).  The FR are an ecclectic lot.  Luce looks like a future ace SF, green in ATH, SPD, REB and BH.  No clue if he'll have to settle for 14 nominations for 1st team daytime all conference before getting his 1st nod.  Hayes and Vidal will stand above a Cast of Thousands for the ability as perimeter shooters.  Both a high potential in SPD and PE with good bases in those and ATH and DEF.  The one big won't be counted on to replace what rusticity gets from his SRs, but will be a defend at an elite level as a sophomore.

10-7, RPI 18.  Another very good starting backcourt with Murphy's SPD/ATH/PE combo capable of putting 20+ ppg in his sleep.  The most impressive this about this squad is probably the LP 's of King, Hill, and Griffin.  We'll see what Door's Griffin's LP skill opens; he's clearly the FOY for the conference.  That he's blue in REB just isn't fair.  He pairs nicely with Wheaton, who while an offensive nonfactor is a Crusher on defense.  Parks Place will have to be a pass-first PG; Dry has PE upside (+8 so far).  Neither of this G's is as good as Lewis, whose year over year improvement in all the G skills is more noteworthy than who he picks up on Rodeo Drive.

8-9, RPI 42.  Tough start for York.  The lack of backcourt speed sticks out, but I think they'll comfortably make the big dance.  Some great non-SR development.  Howard has bad D, but that P improvement is particularly big in light of the obvious "dumbing down" of D3 passing ratings.  RS Mills pairs nicely with him; he won't get big P, but should end up 60/90 on ATH/SPD and maybe 65/75 in PE/BH.  I like the big (McKinney) of the true FR more than the G (Devinney) since he looked to be another sub-60 SPD G with only PE going for him.

7-12, RPI 114.   Check out the Higgins, no Mystery, that's your year over year CAC improvement leader.  He projects out with a 60/80 ATH/SPD with maybe 90 PE.  Peters will probably be his Rock at PG with (+5 to +7 in ATH, SPD, DEF, BH and P).  Phillips has and odd low SPD profile worth checking out.  I assum that's pencilled in at SF in the future, but even there, I'm not sure the SPD brings enough to Power O or D.  Feller, the notational SF looks very nice with a decent base and green ATH, SPD, LP, and PE, all proven by the lack of an Opening year No Hitter in those.  The odd and varied profiles (but with good improvements) should piece together as a perfectly functional NT frontline

7-12, RPI 98.  The Hill will miss this postseason, but with only 1 SR, are locks for the next 3 years if they can bring in a big who can help with minutes as soon as next year.  I don't love any of the G's except Broom; the lack of a 2nd 50+ Passer or any 70+ PE out of a field of 9 is a little strange.  The 3 true FR have no one who is guaranteed to pass either of those threshholds, though the Byrdman of Chestnut Hill's ATH starting point and high potential SPD and PE could make him a little more than interesting.

16-3, RPI 19.  Magneto looks like he'll have a 2nd straight year not adding to his PIT win total since an NT trip is all but locked up.  His MO for the last couple of years has been fun-- rely on high distro to highly talented G's who can shoot.  With the two JR's, that pattern can hang on for another year.  Note the improvement for the bigs, particularly the ATH/SPD/REB of Overton who could handle a bigger distro.  Anderson doesn't quite give 40 minutes of Hell, but has a nice, balanced improvement profile (+2 to +6 in everything that matters) with no need for him to contribute until his JR year.  Noonan looks like somewhat of a Greenskeeper, with big greens in SPD, REB, LP, PE, BH, and P.  He'll sit behind Varda for 3 years, but he's no Gopher, a star in his own right.  The RS, Whitlow looks like the next in line for 20 point seasons from the VJ-RIP backcourt.

15-4, RPI 17.  Good team, but lack of elite score limits how far they can go this year.  Note Franklin's offseason improvements.  +8 to +18 in ATH, SPD, REB, DEF, BLK, and LP is Frankly ridiculous.  He is sure to be the conference Ace as soon as next year.  Franklin's presence means Murray won't be the Head on the block in Fredrick or Bangkok, but he's a F4 capable #2 big.  I like Morgan the most of the sophomore G's, though none of them look like they will get near 70 passing.  The one FR (Rolen) is a guy I wanted in WV, but Geoff got him to pull down first.  He's green in SPD and the G categories with the nice starting ATH.  He helps cement a F4 projection for Hood in two seasons.

12-8 (RPI 43, S-Curve 38).  Coop's team has floundered of late and is a borderline NT team right now.  There are only the three seniors, but Nielson's superior profile means that they probably aren't a much better team next year.  The ridiculous development path continues to be George Thorpe, All-American.  He's now over 700 and still Medium potential in 8 categories.  He could get 800 OVR.  His lowish ST and lack of elite skills (they instead are almost all just nearly-elite) probably keep him from real All American status, but a fun player.  Among the young'ens, RS Tincher is a fun glimpse at the limit of a G with low ATH, but he can already contribute as a catch and shoot guy; we'll see if his Avatar turns blue.  The true FR are nice; the Brawny man is Coop's type of guy, lots of high potentials with a high WE.  The development of the sophomore bigs (particularly Lombardo -- +11 ATH/+14 REB/+18 LP!) gives him time to develop.  Boden and Packard are both nice signings; Packard is high in PE, BH and with a nice starting point in P won't have a problem getting to a 70 P rating; Bodin has a great LP base; with high ATH, REB and some other categories, he is probably the best of the FR here.

It likes the South too much to happen.  Worth noting how hard W's will be to come by there.  Might hurt SMM and CH who both have only 7 nonconference wins.

15-5 RPI 7 (last year 12-2, RPI 7 at the improvement summary).  Ridiculous offensive efficiency (52% FG, 46% 3's as a team) with mediocre defense and a good job on the boards.  McKeag will leave a big hole when he leaves; Thompson will fill in somewhat (and is still high potential in PE), but then there is no 2nd PG returning.  Larry "Liberty" Bell is my favorite of the FR, blue in ATH, REB, DEF, LP, BH, and P.  That's a great SF profile in two seasons.  With all our recruits from the Dakotas, Decoteau is from North... Carolina.  He's blue in SPD, LP, PE, and BH.  A perfect reaplcement for Melvin Moore.  Worth noting Kim's improvement, particularly in ATH/SPD, where he will get to the 45/55 range that Wojtanowski had so much success with.  If Massey were to go to confession, he's admit that he doesn't have that much improvement left on his modest ATH and SPD (or defense), but his penance includes projecting to 95+ REB, 70+ LP and 45+ in P and BH.  With Bell putting up 70+ P at SF, the future P balance could be one of the best in D3.

14-6, RPI 18.  Split against CUA in conference.  The sophomore class is nice; Leary's going to have a chance to be someone who catches on Fire, even without the help of a clumsy cow and the bigs all have nice ATH/REBDEF upsides.  I don't know if any get to 70 LP which limits the upside.  The FR G's look decent, particularly Moody who will have a series of Not Bummer Winters at Salisbury; he's headed for Neal's profile with a little less D.

16-5, RPI 13.  Junior-laden squad poised for a decent run this year and a monster run next year.  Check out the rebounding and LP improvements for the Sophomore bigs.  Easy to project them to a nice place by next year's tourney.  You thought you saw some ok improvements from FR SF Sylvester?  You did, you did, you did.  The improvements are not through the roof, but are broadbased and supressed by a 28 WE.  Once that gets to the mid-30's, he should really take off.  Edelman demands Maynard improve, his high potential in REB, DEF (+9), and LP (+8) fills a Supply.  Orlowsky's improvements are much lower; that Edelman opted for him over a class-balancing G speaks to how bad the G prospects were this year.

10-10, RPI 75 (same RPI as at the improvement summary last year).  Only a win over Gallaudet in conference.  Hazley's 99 SPD and Foreman's 97 REB will leave a gap, particularly in the G stable where the best returning ATH is 27, the best returning P is 45.  Helfenstein is +3 in SPD, DEF, LP, and PE.  With 35 WE, I don't know how high any of those will go.  The bigs I really like.  Bryant is obviously high-high LP (+7) which is needed to pair with Vuongs 14/+1 but high speed, REB, and DEF.  With decent starting places in ATH, you have a pair that can compete; they might not be as good as the real Jordan and Bryant, but oh well.
