ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) Devan Dubnyk and the Minnesota Wild are getting plenty of practice in defending three-goal leads.

Dubnyk made 32 saves, and Minnesota's three-goal advantage held up for the third straight game as the Wild beat the New York Rangers 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Eric Staal, Zach Parise and Marcus Foligno all scored in the first 6:17 for the Wild, who ran their home point streak to a franchise-record 13 games (10-0-3).

''We'll take three-goal leads every game,'' Staal said. ''We'll do that every time. That's fine. Three's a big hill. For us to be able to come out with that lead and to be able to get that, it's big.

''Human nature, I think, is sometimes you sit back and the other team's got nothing to lose so they're going for it. You can get on your heels a little bit, which we did, I think, a little bit.''

John Gilmour scored his first NHL goal in his third game for New York, and Kevin Hayes added his 13th goal of the season. Henrik Lundqvist stopped 26 shots for the Rangers.

''We beat ourselves,'' Lundqvist said. ''It's tough, especially the way we played for 45-50 minutes. That's the way we need to start, and it's on all of us, me not coming up with the extra save.''

Minnesota hasn't lost at home since Dec. 16 against Edmonton and owns the league's longest home point streak of the season. The Wild have outscored opponents 49-25 during the run.

With 3-0 leads at home, Minnesota lost in overtime to Arizona on Thursday and followed with a shutout of Chicago on Saturday. New York pressured, outshooting the Wild 19-8 in the second period when Hayes scored his goal to bring the Rangers within one.

NEW YORK (AP) The New York Islanders invariably raise their game against the Rangers. This time they kept that trend - and a winning streak - against their crosstown rivals going with a shutout.

Jaroslav Halak had a season-high 50 saves for his first shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory over the Rangers on Thursday night.

Halak was masterful as the Islanders beat the Rangers for the third time in three meetings this season, and 10th of the last 11. Josh Bailey, Jordan Eberleand Thomas Hickey each scored and rookie sensation Mathew Barzal had three assists to help the Islanders move into a tie with Columbus one point behind Carolina for the second wild card in the Eastern Conference.

''This felt like a playoff atmosphere. It was intense,'' the 20-year-old Barzal said. ''And Jaro has been our backbone. He made a lot of key saves. That was a must-win for us.''

Halak, who faced 51 shots in a 4-1 home loss to Columbus on Tuesday night, had 15 saves in the first period, 14 in the second and another 21 in the third for his 42nd career shutout.

Halak's effort was the most saves for any goaltender this season in a shutout and one shy of the franchise record set by Glenn Healy on Jan. 16, 1990, against Vancouver.

Halak said weariness is not a factor despite the barrage of shots he has faced in recent games.

''I feel fine. It's all about managing between games and getting enough rest,'' said the 32-year-old netminder who improved to 18-18-4 this season.

Henrik Lundqvist finished with 32 saves for the Rangers, who have lost six of eight overall and dropped to 0-4-1 in five visits to Barclays Center since the Islanders moved to the Brooklyn arena in 2015. The Rangers remained four points behind the Hurricanes, who lost at New Jersey.

The Rangers are 3-9-0 in their last 12 games as expectations grow they will make significant moves by the Feb. 26 trade deadline.

OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) The Ottawa Senators' quick start led to an early exit for Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist.

Derick Brassard had a goal and two assists and Ottawa defeated the New York Rangers 6-3 on Saturday.

Lundqvist allowed five goals on 27 shots before being replaced by Brandon Halverson with 13 minutes remaining.

Halverson stopped five of the six shots he faced for New York in his NHL debut.

Matt Duchene and Mark Stone both added a goal and an assist for Ottawa, which has won two straight. Craig Anderson also stopped 35 shots and Johnny Oduya, Magnus Paajarvi and Thomas Chabot also scored.

Chabot's wraparound goal off Nick Holden's skate at 7:27 of the third period put Ottawa ahead 5-2 and led to Lundqvist being pulled.

However, the goal did require a video review to confirm the puck did cross the line.

''I saw it from my angle since I was behind the net,'' Chabot said. ''I saw it going off his skate and off his pad.

''It was kind of tough for the ref to see but I saw it from behind the net. It's in our style of play now to attack a little more and support the forwards and it's not just me, but other guys did a good job of jumping into the play.''

Michael Grabner had two goals and Mika Zibanejad also scored for the Rangers, who've lost three straight.

NEW YORK (AP) Pressed into action after Flyers starter Michal Neuvirth left with a lower-body injury, rookie goaltender Alex Lyon was confident at Madison Square Garden having played there before for Yale.

In his fourth NHL game, Lyon calmly went out over the next 40 minutes and made 25 saves for his first NHL win as the surging Flyers rolled past the slumping Rangers 7-4 on Sunday for their sixth win in seven games.

''It was good, fun building, great atmosphere and I can't give enough credit to the guys,'' said the 25-year-old Lyon, who signed with Philadelphia as a free agent in April 2016 after three years at Yale. ''A first NHL win you can talk about for a long time.''

Travis Konecny scored the tiebreaking goal late in the second period to provide the margin of victory. His 15th goal of the season at 15:40 snapped a 4-4 tie.

Claude Giroux and Jori Lehtera scored in the third to finish off the win, Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist allowed all seven goals. Giroux's goal was his 20th of the season and the 200th of his NHL career.

Flyers coach Dave Hakstol expressed confidence that possibly having to go with Lyon in games ahead would be a welcome challenge for his club, which is just four points behind Pittsburgh for the Metropolitan Division lead.

''We've won games as a team. And we'll continue to do that,'' Hakstol said. ''Whoever is in net for us will do a good job.''

The Flyers are 22-8-3 since Dec. 4, when they won at Calgary to end a 10-game winless streak. Philadelphia also extended their winning streak on the road to five games.

''In the third period, Alex made some big saves for us,'' Giroux said. ''He was solid.''

The Rangers have lost four straight games. They are 3-11-0 since beating Buffalo at home on Jan. 18 and 6-15-0 since downing the Sabres in the Winter Classic on Jan. 1.

''You give up seven, it's not a good feeling,'' Lundqvist said. ''I have to be better. Obviously, there are a lot of mistakes.''

Sunday marked the 50th anniversary of the first game the Rangers played at the current Madison Square Garden; on Feb. 18, 1968, a 3-1 win over the Flyers.

This game started in throwback Rangers-Flyers fashion with a fight at center ice between Rangers forward Pavel Buchnevich and Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere just 15 seconds into the game.

There were two more bouts in the opening 20 minutes - a tussle between Rangers defenseman Tony DeAngelo and Flyers forward Wayne Simmondsand another between veteran fighters Dale Weise of the Flyers and the Rangers' Cody McLeod.

Each team also scored three times in the first.

Kevin Hayes gave the Rangers the early lead when he redirected a point shot by defenseman Ryan Sproul past Neuvirth. Hayes' 14th goal of the season came at 1:30.

Philadelphia knotted the score at 4:53 when defenseman Andrew MacDonald scored his fourth of the season.

Rick Nash, the subject of trade rumors over the past several weeks, put the Rangers ahead 2-1 with his 18th goal at 10:54 when he tapped a rebound past Neuvirth. The 33-year-old Nash, whose contract expires after this season, is one point shy of 800 for his career.

Scott Laughton tied the score again at 12:11 with his 10th goal.

The Flyers went ahead at 14:53 when Brandon Manning rifled a shot past Lundqvist after a fine setup by Giroux.

The Rangers tied it yet again on a pretty goal by Mats Zuccarello after a slick feed from Peter Holland. The goal was Zuccarello's 10th and only his second since Dec. 16.

Zuccarello, the team's leading scorer the past two seasons whose name has also surfaced in trade rumors, was not pleased with his team's effort.

''We were playing dumb defensively. We have to be better than that.'' the 30-year-old Norwegian forward said. ''It's really, really hard right now.''

Philadelphia went ahead 4-3 at 2:01 of the second on a goal by rookie Nolan Patrick, his sixth.

New York tied it at 4 when Holland scored his first of the season and first as a Ranger at 5:47.

The matchup was the second of four between the teams this season. The Rangers won the previous meeting, 5-1 at the Garden on Jan. 16.

The Rangers have been in a freefall since early January. Now they face games without playoff-race meaning as the season winds down. That would be a first for the 35-year-old Lundqvist, who has made the postseason every year but one during his career that began in 2005-06. That was in 2010 when the Rangers missed out on the last day of the season in a shootout loss at Philadelphia.

''It's terrible, absolutely terrible'' he said of his mindset amid the ongoing slump. ''You live for this.''

The first domino has fallen for the New York Rangers and it comes just six days before the scheduled February 26 trade deadline. As per an official team release, the Rangers are sending defenseman Nick Holden to the Boston Bruins in exchange for a 2018 third round pick and 24-year-old defenseman Rob O’Gara.

MONTREAL (AP) After weeks without a win, the Montreal Canadiens finally found a team they could beat in the struggling New York Rangers.

Antti Niemi made 31 saves and the Canadiens topped the Rangers 3-1 on Thursday night to snap their six-game losing streak.

Tomas Plekanec, Jeff Petry and Phillip Danault scored for Montreal (23-29-8), which won for the first time since Feb. 4 and avoided matching its longest skid of the season.

''Regardless of what happens all year, this is the feeling you play for,'' said Brendan Gallagher, who got his team-leading 36th point with an assist. ''The more we can do this, the happier we'll be. It's rewarding. A lot of guys played a really good hockey game tonight and we got what we deserved.

''For the crowd, it's been a while since we've been able to put smiles on their faces.''

The Canadiens have the third-worst record in the Eastern Conference and are 11 points out of a playoff spot.

''It's been a frustrating year for everyone,'' said Petry, who scored the game-winner in the second period. ''It's about playing a strong game. We have a lot to prove still, whether it be personally or as a team. Nobody wants to give up in here. We want to fight until the end.''

Niemi got the start in place of injured Carey Price.

Before the game, Montreal announced Price will be sidelined indefinitely with a concussion. The goalie took a shot to the mask in Tuesday's loss to Philadelphia.

Earlier on Thursday, the Canadiens also announced Shea Weber will miss the rest of the season because he needs surgery for a torn tendon in his left foot. The 32-year-old defenseman, likely injured on opening night in early October, has not played since Dec. 16.

''Those are big losses for us,'' Danault said. ''We have to learn to play without them. It's part of the game.''

Kevin Hayes scored for the Rangers (27-29-5), who have lost five in a row. Alexandar Georgiev, making his NHL debut, stopped 38 of 40 shots.

''I felt great about my game today,'' said the 22-year-old Georgiev, who was solid throughout. ''The guys played really great in front of me and blocked a lot of shots. It really helped me. I just played my game and it was very fun from the first second of warmups.''

After the New York Rangers fell 3-1 to the Montreal Canadiens, Darren Dreger reported that Michael Grabner was traded to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a 2018 second-round pick and a prospect. Bob McKenzie added that the prospect is Yegor Rykov.

NEW YORK (AP) The Minnesota Wild have been thriving lately on the road to keep pace in the Central Division. After smothering the Rangers 4-1, they completed a three-game sweep in the New York area.

Mikael Granlund and Eric Staal each scored twice and Devan Dubnyk made 22 saves in the Wild's victory over the free-falling New York Rangers on Friday night. The Wild also beat the Islanders on Monday night and New Jersey on Thursday night.

''Well, it obviously means getting six points, but we have never done that before,'' Wild coach Bruce Boudreau said. ''Anytime you do something you haven't done before, it's pretty cool.''

The Rangers lost for the sixth straight time in regulation. New York is 6-17-0 since beating Buffalo in the Winter Classic on Jan. 1.

''In my mind, we worked hard. We just weren't able to make the plays that we needed to make to get something out of that,'' Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said.

Granlund opened the scoring for Minnesota at 16:06 of the first period after Staal intercepted a terrible breakout pass attempt by Rangers defenseman Anthony DeAngelo. Staal passed to Granlund, who easily put the puck past rookie netminder Alexandar Georgiev.

Georgiev played his second NHL game after making his debut Thursday night in a 3-1 loss at Montreal.

Staal made it 2-0 at 18:43. The goal was originally credited to Granlund but was changed to Staal late in the third period.

The Rangers narrowed the deficit to 2-1 when Jesper Fast scored his ninth of the season at 2:41 of the second.

Rick Nash Trade: Rangers Acquire Boston’s 2018 1st, Ryan Spooner, Matt Beleskey, and Ryan Lindgren

According to reports, the Bruins are eating 50% of Belesky’s contract, while the Rangers are confirmed to be retaining 50% of Nash’s remaining salary.

The Rangers pick up a valuable first round pick in this draft, a 20-year-old defensive prospect in Ryan Lindgren , playing at the University of Minnesota, and forward Ryan Spooner which makes this far more interesting. Spooner himself has 25 points this season in just 39 games which is better overall production than Nash. Belesky at half price is something the Rangers might be able to work with.

2/25/2018 10:04 AM
Good job in getting Bruins to pay up on Nash! Happy leaf fan as Nash is garbarge in the playoffs!

If Nash played with half the fire of tiny Zuccarrello he'd be a monster
