You're right, he just remains HOF-worthy.

For those with lower HOF standards, sure.

There are 20 LF in the Hall of Fame. Raines was better than all but 5 of them.

Admitting him to the Hall raises the standard for left fielders.

Yeah, "He's as good as...." doesn't work for me.    Probably said that quite a few times.

Ken Gurick didn't vote for anyone from the steroid era. Only player he voted for was Morris.

Let's remember, Mike was the one who once upon a time suggested a HOF of 25 hitters and 25 pitchers, and if you wanted to add someone new, you had to remove an existing member to keep it at 50.

It's like a school requiring a 4.0 GPA to make the Honour Roll.

I know you've said that. And if the argument for Raines was, "he was only better than Rice," I'd agree with you.

But he was better than 75% of the left fielders already in the hall. That's way past borderline, that's a slam dunk.

I'm curious.  Who are the "only 5" LFers in the HOF you would put ahead of Raines?

Maybe there should only be 5.

It's really only 4 already in. I counted Bonds as already too.

Bonds
Williams
Henderson
Yaz
Simmons

Do you see any other Hall of a Fame left fielders better than Raines?

Musial off the top of my head.

Willie Stargell.

Billy Williams.

Ralph Kiner.
