This is the problem with Jeter(and perhaps why the haters hate so hard): There's no legit comparison.
He's spent his entire career with the same team and had outstanding, team and individual, success. But he's never been the best, or most important(IMO), player on the team. Ripken, Chipper Jones, Gwynn are somewhat from his era and all of them were the best, and most important, player on their team for most of their careers. That said, had he played in Tampa or Miami or Milwaukee, he'd have almost certainly fell into the Ripken, Gwynn, Jones category. Perhaps a little less famous and a lot less hated.
