Derek Jeter's Last Stand Topic

By all metrics and by a great deal.

Total hits:  3463 to 3060
Per 162:   204 to 174

Averages:   309/377/440  115+  as compared to 281/363/433  112+

Over 20 years, that's just ridiculous.  30 hits per 162?  028/014/007 for 20 years?    ****.

Jeter > Biggio by almost all metrics.  Not by much, but still slightly better.
Yep. And that's ok, I don't think anyone is arguing that Biggio was better.

Jeter: 71 WAR, 260 HR, .309/.377/.440, 115 OPS+
Biggio 65 WAR, 291 HR, .281/.363/.433, 112 OPS+ (and I'd be willing to bet Biggio's WAR slightly underrates him due to the 400+games at catcher)

Two players with incredibly similar career numbers, yet one is perceived as a greatest-of-all-time, generational player and the other is called a compiler and has to wait a few ballots to get into the hall.

Let's look at post-season numbers also, or do you think post season numbers don't belong in the discussion?

This travels down the Raines/Lofton/Brett Butler road.

A guy who hit 253/349/426 is as close to Biggio as Biggio is to Jeter.    Who the **** thinks 253/349/426 is HOF-worthy?

That's where the "fame" part of the Hall of Fame comes into play.

Derek Jeter was the face of one of the best known sports teams on the planet for the past 20 years.

Craig Biggio played in Houston.

Edge, Jeter.

I think they dropped that argument yesterday.    Because it was the smart thing to do.    Jeter is slightly better in the post-season, Biggio hit like a pitcher.

That's sort of the point.

Jeter, playing for any other team with the exact same stats, is probably being called a compiler by a certain someone around here.

He certainly belongs in the Hall but lets slow down on the deep throating.

Well, you really can't disregard the fact that Jeter was even better in the post-season than he was during the regular season, while Biggio hit like a girl in October.

That also has to count for something.

No one is disregarding the fact that Jeter hit well in the postseason. I am disregarding Biggio's 185 PAs. That's too small a sample to draw a meaningful conclusion.

October is breast cancer awareness month.    Biggio hit a like a girl to support the cause.

BTW, if a player averaged 234 hits and 337/391/447 over 20 years, he'd be "about the same as Jeter" using the Biggio/Jeter are similar thought process.

So you're going on record saying Biggio and Jeter are not similar statistically?

Wanna know the closest stat line I could find(without a whole lot of digging)?   328/391/467

Wanna know who it belonged to?  Honus Wagner

So, essentially, Jeter is "about the same as Wagner" using this retarded logic.

Well, you also thought Bernie Williams and Edgar Martinez were similar offensively, so maybe you should bow out of discussions involving the evaluation of player stats.

Sez the guy who thinks that Kenny Lofton should be in a HOF discussion.
