What don't you understand about: "For the sake of this example, full careers. Including ramp-up at the beginning, decline at the end."?

Why are you unwilling to answer the question?

I want to know if they are real stats or if you changed them.  And if they are consecutive seasons.  Yes or no, and then I'll answer.

Irrelevant.  It's a hypothetical.  Real stats were used as the basis for the stats shown for each player for the sake of realism, i.e. I didn't just make up random numbers.  Player A is based completely on one real life player, player B is based completely on a second real life player.

So you changed the stats?

JRD doesn't deal with hypotheticals.  If it doesn't show up on his stat sheet, it didn't happen.

So the whole Bartman thing...?  Never happened.  It isn't on the stat sheet.

Willie Mays' catch off of Vic Wertz...?  Just an F-8 in the book.

Brooks Robinson in the 1970 World Series...?  Just luck.  70% of the time the ball is put into play, someone will make plays just like those.

So you changed the stats?

Why would it matter if I did?  Why would it matter if I didn't?

You've been presented with a hypothetical with a bunch of numbers.  All your favorite stats.  You said earlier in this thread that the stats were all you needed to be able to evaluate players.

Why are you hesitating to answer the question?

2/28/2012 8:01 PM
Not really but before I answer I want to know if the stats are completely real or made up.

I already said "I didn't make up random numbers".

Why won't you just answer yes or no? Did you change the stats?

Yes or no and then I'll tell you who I think was better.
2/28/2012 8:24 PM

It's a hypothitical.  If you don't understand the meaning of the word, I suggest you look it up.

Do the numbers not seem realistic to you?  In not, why not?

2/28/2012 10:02 PM
All I want to know is if they are the actual stats or if they were changed.  It makes a difference to me.  Answer that and I'll give you my answer.
2/28/2012 10:17 PM

It's very odd that you are refusing to answer the question.

The last time I presented you with a hypothetical, you allowed yourself to become completely distracted by information that you received AFTER the fact.  I'm not going there again.

I'm presenting you a hypothetical scenario . . . two pitchers with realistic stats, based on two different and real MLB players.  Your keen analytical skills and knowledge of advanced baseball statistics should be able to determine a very simple answer to the question . . . who is the better pitcher?

Yet you seem unwilling to do that.

Why?

2/28/2012 10:25 PM
Because you won't tell me if the stats are real or altered. It makes a difference to me.  I'm going to give you an answer either way but I want to know first.
2/28/2012 10:30 PM
Why does it make a difference to you?
2/28/2012 10:32 PM
Would it change your answer?
