D1 MWC/Big Sky Challenge Topic

I'm not forcing you into this challenge I'm just making a case.  It would be stupid to schedule UNC, Duke as I said the talent level with those schools is big.  My thing is that I making a case of playing (AS I SAID - TEAMS IN YOUR LANE) meaing in english.  Teams you have a shot of beating.  I didn't even make the schedule one of our conference mates made it in respect to RPI's most teams agreed with it but at the same time Alcorn State is one of the better schools in the Big Sky (respect due) and it would make the challenge complete because of your stature and name.

You don't have to play and I'm not forcing you to.  I'm making the case of playing real coaches each season instead of just 10 sims.  I schedule how I see fit.  I accept challenges.  Look for Big 6 Schools that coaches just left and once in a blue moon I'll schedule OU, Iowa, Miami with the hopes of getting a upset.  I wished that all the Big Sky schools were 20-0 I would of got in the NT last season as an at large bid instead of getting beat by Ok St in the PIT who I did beat during the season last year and in ex but that didn't count becuase they are rebuilding this season.
By matching rpi, I end up playing Utah, whose highest incoming FR is rated higher than everyone on my team except one. That's a winnable game?

As you said, last season, if everyone was 20-0, you would have easily made the NT. With this in mind, why would you advocate your conf mates to have 2 games on their schedule where they are huge underdogs? You really think teams like Weber State, Montana, Sac State etc. has a realistic shot against TSU, SDSU, or UNLV? Since you agree that more of us would go to the NT if all of us go 10-0 in nonconf, thus have a record like 25-3, 20-8, 15-13, and at worst, 10-17, why are you trying to get me to abandon the potential 10-0 and settle for a 8-2 record as the best case scenario.

Remember, SOS is 2/3*(your opponents # of wins) + 1/3*(your opponents' opponents # of wins). It's better for you to play a team that is 10-0, with SOS 100, than a team that is 8-2 with SOS of 50. SOS is pretty much determined by nonconf scheduling, not conf play; as a conf in conf play, the entire conf will have a winning % of .500, nothing more nothing less. Only by manipulating nonconf (more wins) will you enhance the entire conf SOS.

And lastly, I have 4 midmajors on my schedule, and probably will have a few more next season, but they will all be teams around m strength level; they will not be teams like Utah or any team that has a significantly higher core rating or prestige.

I understand what you are saying but I'm also looking at the future as more guys will have 2 seasons in and better talent on their teams.  Today the difference may look big but next season I don't think it would be that big of a difference as Weber St and other coaches will have 2 classes and your team will be the team to beat in the Big Sky as me and Jackson State lose 5 Sr's give or take.  I was looking at the future and not where we're at now because I feel with the talent level of coaches we have in our conference now we will be where we want to be in two seasons.  Just my opinion and I was only looking at the future.  I took the schools your playing and if you want you can play N. Texas since they didn't schedule me yet.  You can still participate in the challenge if you like with a team you feel more comfortable with.  I think arrangements could be made.  Maybe we just schedule who we want and have the games go I don't know.  I just wanted you to participate and as always you have great facts and I have nothing but respect for you even with my feelings.  I'm growing and learning and hope to put the past behind us.

Again, I'm not interested in the challenge. I would rather play Coppin State, SFA, etc. who will be 20-25 game winners and boost my SOS (not to mention rpi1-50 and 50-100 wins), rather than N. Texas, who will struggle to reach 20 wins.

As you said, you play the game for enjoyment and so do I. You get enjoyment by upsets, I get enjoyment by building up my team prestige and recruiting better players. MWC challenge works to the detriment of this goal, and hurts my enjoyment of the game, so I'm passing. I'm not going to try convince you or try tell any other coach to schedule softer and go 10-0 in nonconf, so please stop trying to get me into this challenge. My last post on this matter and best of luck in your games!

Final edit, looks like dwoelfin only likes to criticize others for scheduling soft:  http://whatifsports.com/hd/TeamProfile/Schedule.aspx?tid=12160

I get enjoyment by building my team and beating you each season. I believe most season I recruit better than you and besides Otto you have nobody than can compare to me position by position so please don't go there. About the challenge it is what it is. I was trying to offer an olive branch but you say something stupid as usual so that is off. Look forward to beating Alcorn St at least two more times this season. My prestige will be where I want to be soon and look forward to making sure you don't get any wins against me n the near future.

You pay for the game, you can play however you want tianyi...But you have refused my d3 non-conf offers NUMEROUS times just for me to see the game filled by a simai. You can use my ONE team as an example, sure, lets not look at the fact that it's the best d2-conf in all of HD. Don't try and say I ride the sims even HALF as much as you do...

It's suppose to be a fun challenge for both conferences, but you're in a sense 'taking your basketball and going home', because you didn't get picked first...You act as tho those 2 games are going to make or break your season, enough to ignore this fun competitive challenge and schedule up some more sims.

" must be nice to sit at your ivory tower of A++ prestige looking down at everyone. "...
Didn't get to an A++ by playing sims...

Which team was it? When I'm at A+ prestige and a d3 team that is poised to go sub .500 challenges me, I decline so I don't get killed with bad sos/rpi. As far as I can see,I schedule fairly intense nonconf for d2/d3:

I was 67th on the projection report last season, and only made the NT by winning the CT. You tell me if 2 extra wins/losses matter or not.

And dwoeflin, why are you even involved in this? Your Tark D2 conf schedule suggests that your whole conf purposely scheduled as soft as possible to maximize your conf win total, to send more teams into the NT. Clearly, you know what I'm suggesting works, but instead you criticize the strategy that you use yourself, and your Tark d2 conf uses. Maybe someone doesn't want to see 10 Big Sky teams in the NT, which negatively affects the # of teams the Big12 sends to the dance.

tiyani - play whoever you want - but just know you come off as a giant wuss refusing to play me or utah because you might lose the game. i mean if i never scheduled a game i might lose what's the challenge? i built my team up to where it is by beating humans... and i even beat utah most seasons. (at home), there's more than one way to skin a cat.

i thought the challenge would be fun, a little trash talk, an upset or two, some bragging rights, and something to continue year after year. but if you want to sit it out - be my guest.

I agree with both dwoelfin and trobone.  Not only is the challenge a fun way to see where both conferences stand but also it's great for prestige, batteling and bragging rights.  To me and always tianyi brings out stats to support his views but as always this game is more than stats.  If that is the case the higher rated teams would win all the games but tell me how many times a lower rated team beats a higher rated team.  In WIS it happens more often than not.  Also tianyi GLV in Tark is the most competative conference in WIS period.  Tark in general has the best coaches and more Hall of Fame coaches period.  I know some teams in my conference did do the challenge and I'll put a post later to see how many games will actually count and the schedule so we can get past "lets see if Coach of the Century Tianyi plays in the challenge"

Maybe I'm a wuff for not scheduling Utah, when I'm a 9:1 underdog, but at least I'm not a cheater sitemailing coaches in the SEC before recruiting asking them who they are going after.
