This is a better team than last season, and with the FIRE sale in Chicago I rank the Canucks as the SECOND best team in the West entering the season behind only the San Jose Sharks.

Definate upgrade on the Defense,i didnt hear about Tambellini when did that happen? Malhotra is a good 3rd 4th centre..as much as i like Bieksa his lack of playing like he needs to has ****** me off, maybe its time to go? play like a ***** time to get traded to the Flames

Good call Randle regarding Gillis......I have not been this happy on free agent day since....WELL EVER!!!

Tambellini signed a 1 year 1.0 mil contract at about 7 pm eastern time.

Now if we could lose Luongo's big cap hit..........I would be ecstatic!!

To Mudbone, I bet a 20 cash bet that the Canucks finish higher than the Blackhawks in the Western Conference standings....

mitchell is a goner, bieksa as well.. but would you take hamhuis and ballard over willie and juice? i think thats a no brainer..i always liked malhotra..if tamby has his dad's gene's he will find a way to score..Gillis knows what he needs and unlke his pedecessors  he does something about it,i respect a guy that has the balls to make moves and live with those moves..unlike the panty waste that was running this team previously..i hate cowards..better to go down in a blaze of glory rather than standing pat

I would take Mitchell back if he was willing to take a massive pay cut maybe 1.5 or less the 3+ isnt going to happen,Willie needs to be realistic ..but you will probably see some idiot like Sutter in Calgary offer him a multi yr deal a 4+

Wille may take the home town discount...................$1.3 for one plus HIS option (2.5) on.....second season, is what I heard....Time will tell....

Actually the best scenario may be Mitchell signing mid season, somewhat like Sundin did.  Give him 2-3 months to play back into shape so he peaks for the playoffs uninjured.  only a fraction of his salary would count against the cap.  Would be like picking up a veteran D at the trading deadline.  Mitchell would look awfully good as a number 5,6 d-man in that scenario.  I would go after Brendan Morrison the same way if he were available - would make a very good 4th line center who can penalty kill and move up to a scoring role if needed.

Actually, mid season signings would be a great way around the cap.  The player gets the full season salary and the team gets a small cap hit.  As long as your pluggers can get you into a playoff position.

Salo out again...torn achilles heal in training...I really feel for this guy man. He just can't catch a break!
7/23/2010 5:17 PM
Maybe we keep Bieksa now, Sami's 3.5 mil cap hit will be off the books.  I am hearing Salo could be out with that kind of injury for up to 10 month's.  At age 35 it could mean the end of his NHL career.  Maybe he returns home to finish off his playing days.

I think we have a place for Juice, maybe 5th dman? able to jump up in case of injuries, but he needs to play the way he used to..tough,drop the gloves ,kick the crap out of guys 50lbs heavier than him..truly an intimidating force. Juice has got soft ,eerily similar to Phagneuf in Toronto. he needs to play with a edge to be effective
