Canadien fans wouldn't know class if it hit them in the face.
theodry's post:

- yeah, I'm upset at Price for that cuz Lucic wasn't even in on the line of his crease

raucous' 2010:
- those aren't players and yes, I am upset with booing and/or interrupting ANY national anthem, even North Korea's!
raucous' 2009:
- see above (though don't forget, this lack of respect was happening in other arenas too, in Canada, and in the USA)
raucous'  2008:
- see above, including the mocking is disgraceful, regardless of which arena/city/country
raucous' 2004:
- the Bruins' fans weren't booing, but they were being disrespectful by either not non-mockingly singing along, or by not being silent
(still not as bad as Habs fans in the Habs arena, I agree, but also still not players being dirty players)

Holy crap winnie. Do you also have an obsessive crush on Jodie Foster?

The subject was pulled into a rather intelligent debate on the game and the incident in question...almost against your wishes really...and you insist on continuing to try to make this into an obsessed Robert Deniro v. Wesley Snipes The Fan tirade.

What does Jodie Foster have to do with this?

Your "proof" that Chara is a very very badd man is verging on Taxi Driver

Geez, you're nuts, diah.

Bullshit. I've seen it 5 ways to Sunday and that's a complete homer Montreal Canadiens view.

It gets done 10 times a game, every game.

This time, a 260 lb 6-9 giant did it and instead of boards or glass, it was metal. This should have been addressed years ago. It's not a huge mystery.

Do you want me to start listing off the players who's careers ended with that same hit with less fanfare (and less SportsCentre airtime)?

Maybe this time something will be done. Doubt it. Because he's still alive and it was "a hockey play".
death, I rarely agree with you, but this time I'm in 100% agreement

I think, while it's important to discuss the incident, the incident is a result of the culture.

It's important to realize that, while the outcome doesn't happen every day, that hit happens multiple times every game.

It's also important to realize that it wasn't always that way.

So, the discussion, in my opinion, is why is it this way, and do we need to see someone get killed before we start enforcing Charging and Boarding as it is written in the rule book.

I'm telling you now, hitting will not be gone from the game if it is enforced. You will no longer see the steamroller crossed forearm body check. You may actually start seeing more Charley horse inducing crumpling hip checks. I mean, once the current generation of players get taught it.
ABSOLUTE FRIGGIN' LOOTLY

Yes Hockey is a physical game..always will be. BUT it is time for the NHL to calling the rules as they are written.  There still be hitting and it still will be a physical game. It just that most modern day hockey players don't know how to hit 'properly'.

Also it's not that using the boards in a check is wrong and can't be done cleanly.  A perfect example is Denis Potvin..this guy would make it look like there was chance to go around him on the outside.  Soon as you took the bait, he'd close the door on you!  But he didn't go high and trying plaster your face into the glass (as most players do today), in fact he stayed low and just trapped you between the boards and him.  A very effective and very clean hip style hit...you never saw a guy on the ice out cold from these hits or out with a knee injury.  But I'm sure you had a 'charley-horse' to remember!  Yea you were hit hard but it was clean....

Players today have lost art of hitting, now it's all about 'wallpapering' a guy and/or putting an elbow/shoulder to a guy's head.

Careful aginor, don't bring anyone from more than 10 years ago into this!

I just watched the hi-lights of the game between Columbus and LA, and lo and behold, some guy from Columbus steered Drew Doughty right into the same style of partition that Chara steered Pacioretty into.  Guess what? Even though Doughty hobbled off the ice holding his mouth, no penalty was called!  I guess those penalties are reserved for 6ft 5 or taller?  or is it because the 5 mph difference in the speed between Pacioretty and Doughty means that the guy hitting Pacioretty is a criminal and the guy hitting Doughty is a saint because Pacioretty's own speed caused him to get a broken neck while Doughty's lack of speed saved him?  I guess perspective is everything.

Yea well, sorry but facts are facts.  It is possible to use the boards in a 'clean' hit and it is possbile to make a hit in the open ice WITHOUT putting your elbow/shoulder into a guy's head.  Players of todays game have lost that skill..as I said it's all about putting the guy's face into the glass.  Is that really necessary??    How many times in a game do you see a forward on the forecheck hit a d-man against the boards AND his aim is high on the back or head (intent on putting the guys face against the glass)?  It's how the guys are taught to hit in this case.   I do remember when the aim was to the middle/low part of the back, basically putting the guys chest/body against the glass for the moment.  Still a good hard check but none of this crap of trying to flatten the guy's face into the glass..
