"Chara crossed the line with hit on Pacioretty" Topic

Cooke is a douchebag and should have been suspended for life

And chara is my new hero for what he has done
^  that is oozing with bias

So, if you were a Penguins' fan instead of a Bruins' fan, you would instead have said the following?

"Chara is a douchebag and should have been suspended for life, And cooke is my new hero for what he has done"

You really don't get it, do you? There is no comparison between Chara and Cooke.

I think both deserved suspensions. It's just that Cooke's history played a major factor. My question is, if Chara is never suspended for any hit ever, how is he supposed to become a repeat offender? I've seen him hit at least 3 players in the head or from behind the last 2 seasons now with no suspensions to show for it. Intentional or not, it shouldn't matter.

Look at andru's reply.
I would say the same thing he did, but he already said it.

www.nesn.com/2011/03/don-cherry-calls-mario-lemieux-one-of-the-biggest-phonies-happy-matt-cooke-got-his-comeuppance.html

Where is Mario in all of this? Has he opened up his wallet and pay $1,000,000 to set his example?  Shouldn't he suspend Cooke the rest of the way or at least take the A off of his chest?  I doubt it.  He likes Cooke to be a leader on his team.
Mario's response thus far...

"                                              "

I always thought he was a big quitting, whining, p*ssy.  I guess I can add hypocrite to it as well.

Mario can't do anything at this point. I bet the Pens will either buy Cooke out or trade him in the off-season. That will be Mario's response.

Oh how we love tearing down the game's heroes. I find Bruins fans particularly proficient at it. When is it Wayne's turn? How about Gordie Howe? Nick Lidstrom?

If he's never suspended, then he's not a repeat offender. It's that simple.

If Chara's hit happens ANYWHERE else in the rink, it's a 2-minute minor for interference, Pacioretty doesn't get hurt, and there's no uproar, no hearing, nothing. If Cooke's hit happens anywhere else in the rink, it's still a 5-minute major, game misconduct, and likely suspension. That's the difference between the two.

1) they are both the same as they were intentional

2) it didnt happen anywhere...anywhere else chara wouldnt have had the chance

3) Cooke doesnt get 10 without that hit by chara

4) chara has been suspended b4 ....2*...its just erased after 3 yrs

5) its just common sense that users that are fans of the team/player would complain more when it happens to theirs

And if Todd Bertuzzi hadn't fallen on Steve Moore, Moore would still be playing hockey and Bertuzzi would have gotten a game misconduct and likely nothing further. You can't hand out discipline based on "what ifs". That's what has gotten the NHL into this predicament in the first place; trying to determine intention and circumstance. Suspensions should be determined by action and result.

I agree that the Chara hit and Cooke hit are incomparable in the nature of the actual infraction, but there is no denying that Chara did something illegal (it was after all, intereference at the least because the puck was long gone) that resulted in a serious, and more importantly unnecessary, injury. That alone should have warranted at least the token 2 games.

Still an idiot I see. Never ever been a bruins fan, the only bias I have is what has made chara my hero. The holier than thou canadian fans cry and whining constantly and staging protests while pretending to not be biased and saying it is for all injuries. They didn't raise a whimper when two days later doughty had the same hit on him. Prolly cause doughty manned up

At least theodry admits to the bias

For the record chara maybe should have got one or two games tops cause it was reckless. But by no way was it intentional. No more intentional than umbergers hit on doughty

lol....right.....it works both ways....only raucous and sak are defending....but i spose thats different.....so there was a protest... big deal....at least something came of it... and chara got an ovation in his home return...and ignorant stuff on twitter....named after a plural version of bruins

I am looking for consistency.  He should put his money where his mouth is.  Even if he just donates it to his own foundation, I would be fine with that.

I only tear down French-Canadians.  Bergeron and Fleury are next!

I think some people confuse me with being a Chara fan.  I want to see him suspended, just to prove that the Bruins would at least be the same or better without that slow turd.
3/23/2011 1:56 PM
Sigh.

Chara's hit happens ten times a game, every game. Start calling boarding and charging as it was intended, and that becomes a suspendable hit. But you can't all of the sudden start punishing the result until you actually start punishing the act.

And yes, the act needs to be punished. As it used to be.

Cooke hit was, is, and will always be filthy and dirty.

The CBA protects the players from owners/GMs doing anything right now, so the team has no recourse against Cooke right now. At least wait until the off-season before saying that the Pens have done nothing. Besides that, the simple fact that Ray Shero backed the suspension publicly is already more than 99% of GMs, owners and coaches would have done.

And if you're only tearing down French Canadians, at least keep it to those who deserve it. Guys like Claude Giroux, Maurice Richard, and yes, even Jonathan Toews all have French Canadian heritage and that doesn't change the fact that they are some of the most respected and hardest working players of their generation.
