Oh how we love tearing down the game's heroes. I find Bruins fans particularly proficient at it. When is it Wayne's turn? How about Gordie Howe? Nick Lidstrom?

I am looking for consistency.  He should put his money where his mouth is.  Even if he just donates it to his own foundation, I would be fine with that. 

I only tear down French-Canadians.  Bergeron and Fleury are next!

The CBA protects the players from owners/GMs doing anything right now, so the team has no recourse against Cooke right now. At least wait until the off-season before saying that the Pens have done nothing. Besides that, the simple fact that Ray Shero backed the suspension publicly is already more than 99% of GMs, owners and coaches would have done.

And if you're only tearing down French Canadians, at least keep it to those who deserve it. Guys like Claude Giroux, Maurice Richard, and yes, even Jonathan Toews all have French Canadian heritage and that doesn't change the fact that they are some of the most respected and hardest working players of their generation.

No not really... 

I will sound like a blasphemer here but I never cared for Gordie Howe either. 

Jetski and Lidstrom I have no problem with.

Mark Recchi thinks the Habs embellished Pacioretty's injury to try to get Chara suspended:

"He does obviously have a fractured vertebra, but the concussion is obviously really a non-factor," said Recchi, citing how Pacioretty attended a movie several days after the hit. "In maybe a day or two -- maybe a day he felt it -- but he was fine a couple days later. They were trying to get Zdeno suspended and they embellished it a little bit. In terms of that side, they're doing whatever they could to get him suspended. I think the league sent a message that it was a hockey play. That's the important thing and people have to understand. If they deemed it something that was serious, they suspended Matt Cooke up to 17 games for a head shot. They're serious about protecting the players now. That was an interference play at worst. The partitions got in the way. I don't think Zdeno is to blame for that."

he also said he himself has hit a turnbuckle at least 40 times.....ya we can tell...he was right about one thing ".They're serious about protecting the players now"...yeah after a fractured neck

For the record chara maybe should have got one or two games tops cause it was reckless. But by no way was it intentional. No more intentional than umbergers hit on doughty

Thank you nick, you're now the second person to independently bring up the Doughy hit as comparison (I was the first).
I guess my point of view isn't as singularly f*cked up as some in here seem to want everyone to believe it is.

Well if Mark Recchi, a teammate of Zdeno Chara, said it, it must be true! I wanna know where raucous is...he was quick to criticize Lemieux for not doing anything to Matt Cooke for a dangerous hit, and yet here is a teammate, let alone an owner of the team, saying that he thinks it was both intereference AND a hockey play. If it's a penalty to begin with, it's illegal in the game of hockey. How is it a "hockey play"? Anyone have any sound bites of what Recchi said about the Cooke on Savard hit?

This is a very transparent and obvious ploy by Recchi to get his team and fans riled up for the next meeting between the teams and you're buying it hook, line and sinker, SAK.

It is about time.

How many times has Recchi spoken out about anything in his 20-year career? I can't remember one. And yes, interference is a "hockey play", as are several other minor penalties. How many players go through an entire season with no PIMs? Penalties are part of the game, so yes, they are hockey plays. If they weren't, there'd be no need for referees.

Both teams have already been warned by the league not to do anything stupid, so what does he have to gain by saying this? Bruins fans have been looking forward to this game for a while. There's no need to "rile them up".
