moy, further to our Brian Campbell trade experiment, here are the 8 teams I'd put on my list if I were him:
New York Rangers: in need of defensemen and never shy about spending big bucks. Also, played 3 seasons in near by Rochester.
Toronto Maple Leafs: Rebuilding team in need of experienced players, although they already have an overload at defense and he's not quite a Brian Burke type of player, although he was briefly coached by Ron Wilson in his short stint with San Jose. The biggest reason for this one is it's the closest NHL city to his home town.
Ottawa Senators: Played his junior hockey in Ottawa and the Sens are a rebuilding team who have always liked puck-moving defensemen.
Buffalo Sabres: Started his career there. New ownership wants to make a splash and build a winning franchise, and willing to spend to that end; why not start with bringing back a fan favorite?
Atlanta Thrashers: A team on the rise, the Thrashers have trading history with the hawks and Campbell would transition well into their room with Ladd and Byfuglien already there and some good young offensive dmen that could learn from him.
Tampa Bay Lightning: Play an up-tempo style and lack a true Power-Play quarterback. They're gonna need a puck-moving defenseman to get the puck up to their talented forwards.
I'll let you chose another two possibilities because I'm out of ideas, lol.
