Rumors about the flames going after Richards are abound in cowtown. It won't happen

Flames going after a Vet, hoping he'll regain past form?  Is Sutter back at the GM spot?

Richards was pretty good last year
6/17/2011 12:52 PM
Yea true, still can they afford him??  The signing of Glencross has to have pushed them pretty much against the cap..
6/17/2011 2:01 PM
They would have to get some guys traded away first
6/17/2011 2:25 PM

Regher, I would think is really the only asset that would have some value out there.  Boumiester would be better BUT nobody is going to that contract, not even for a bag of pucks.  Maybe Kipper???  Problem with that..they don't have anyone to replace him...

Looks like regehr is the first to go as long as he hopefully waives his no trade clause. Rumored to be getting buffalos first and Luke Adams

Yes please

The deal we're hearing here is Adam for Regehr and either Stajan or Kotalik to clear cap space for Calgary. Basically Adam for Regehr, and we do the dishes and take out your trash. Not everyone here happy with that. Sabres are dying for a big centerman who can play on the top-2 lines, and here they may be trading that guy away (Adam was the AHL Rookie-of-the Year). I'm OK with it, the Sabres have prospects all over the damn place, can afford to package a couple and picks for some immediate impact.

Separate rumor has the Sabres trying to move up to #4 overall with New Jersey and the #16 pick being part of that.

Could not AGREE MORE!!!!  You have to start somewhere.....and this deal would be a GREAT start for Calgary!!

regehr and kotalik for chris butler and paul byron.   opens up some cap space.   i'm okay with it.  they re-signed tanguay because of it.  though i'm not sure i would have signed him for five years.  butler sounds like he could be okay.  stay at home type d-man.  only 24.  he's an RFA though, so i wonder what kind of money he's gonna be expecting?  byron is a small center, and is only 22.  they'll probably leave him in the minors for another year or so.  i think we're still pretty close to the cap though.  and we don't have enough d-men signed.  :>

so they said on tsn this afternoon that calgary is talking with brad richards.  i'd much rather have them put an offer sheet in to stamkos.  offer him a fourteen year deal.  front loaded.  even if we had to give up four first round picks, we don't do all that well with our drafting anyways.  and if we had stamkos, those would likely be late round picks in the first place.  i doubt they'd consider it, let alone be able to swing it, but i think richards is a little overrated.  he's a decent player, but stamkos is a superstar.  though it'd be nice to have another star to play with iggy.  even if it's not a superstar.  :>

No offense ..but why would Richards want to come to Calgary?  play with Iggy and put up 90 pts and miss the playoffs for the next 10 years? i think he wants to win,i could be wrong? maybe some players just want the cash?..lets be honest here..Calgary will have a tough time making the playoffs for the next 5 years..Iginla doesnt have a "S" on his chest...it will be lean times in cowtown
