chicago's all rookie game is on mapleleafs.com right now.  mcneil was just leveled admiring a pass of his.  olsen looks decent..... but hawks are not getting a lot of shots off.  down 1-0.  david toews on the ice as well.

ouch.  mcneil is getting clobbered.  if he keeps skating across mid-ice with his head down he will have a short career.  nice goal by the didominico (sp?) though.

That's why he's still at least 2 years away. That's also why these tourney exist...for these youngsters to learn
I was amazed at how many people/bloggers in Chicago had him pegged to make the hawks roster this season (when talking about the players the hawks selected in the draft).

Rookie camp does help these guys learn - but it also is the opportunity to get them to the pro's on the fast track if they wow management (and look like they can pull off 3rd line+ minutes so they still get time to develop).  I'm hoping the Flyers don't bring up Couturier to soon... I'm getting nervous about that one.... and he was the 8th pick - not the 19th like McNeil was.

Saab or whatever his name was is the guy that impressed me the most yesterday (for the hawks).  Percy and Gardiner for the Leafs.  I liked what I saw from Olsen on the Hawks too (he looked big out there) but he still isn't ready for the big club yet.

I was surprised by the the "McNeill will make the team" talk.  Christ, why would we want to push this kid?  Let him get his feet wet and his game settled.

Saad is a top-end talent.  He may be a steal.

I hope Saad's  relatives dont drive cabs? getting a beatdown from Kaner and his  6'2  230lb  GF  just isnt worth the money or risk of driving cab in metro Chicago..

I can hear the excuses already ---- "sharp and kane missed preseason - didn't get time to build team chemistry - thats why the hawks got off to a bad start"

;)

LOL...you won't hear that from me...Team chemistry is built through 82 games, sometimes multiple seasons, not in 4-5 pre-season games.

The bigger issue with Sharpie out is the 2nd line center position. It'll be interesting to see who gets the ice-time with Hossa in camp while Sharp is out. I think Marcus Kruger will get a looooong look there and deservedly so. If Frolik can win a few faceoffs, he may play center as well, although he is better on the wing.

Afcorse Dave Bolland could also finally have a healthy season and breakout to be the 60 point player most people think he can be, but he's so good in that checking role on the 3rd line that it would almost create a bigger hole than the one he'd be filling on the 2nd line.

It's gonna be an interesting pre-season for the Hawks, as there is as much competition for spots as there's been in a while.

true on all accounts. Seems like they are really counting on Kruger to play a HUGE role this season, even before the Sharp surgery.
