Until the players' association steps up and grows a pair, and decides to protect THEIR OWN MEMBERS, they will be at
the mercy of the random decisions coming out of the league head office.
If the players association would make mandatory 2 and 3 year suspensions for crap like this a non-negotiable part of the next collective agreement, this
problem would virtually disappear overnight.
Players do it (violent attacks on the ice) because the competitive advantage gained for their team outweighs the penalties incurred under the current structure.
Why the players' association is so silent on this issue is beyond me.
