Annual Alumni League - Full & Playing Topic

I've been gone from WiS for a good while. Have things slowed this much. Last year this filled in like a week.

I've been struggling all week to get 19300 minutes at 43 million with the 2 teams I would want. I keep trying different things, but High School I'm pretty sure it's impossible to get the right LeBron and Dwight and still get enough minutes. And those two are the whole reason you would go with High School. If the cap went up to 44 million I would be in, and I am going to still try to tinker with my other team to get enough minutes and still be competitive, but as of now I am probably out
ben (and kinoa1), we all have players who we love, or would love, to use. There are plenty of other Leagues for that. This League is to have competition between schools - schools of all sizes and varying basketball histories. The higher the cap, the less teams that can compete. Sure, that rules-out using huge seasons of LBJ and Dwight. Good - how many schools can use even 1 player as "huge" as either of those players' seasons you'd like to use? Why not just use slightly cheaper ones and compete a little. Everyone has the same salary cap to work with. So far, 9 teams have been put together with plenty of minutes, and that includes none from schools with huge alumni lists to choose from. Love to have you both change your mind and join us, but we're going to try things "as is" this season.

Looking back, it appears last season's League took 21 days to secure 24 teams/owners, and a bit longer to get them all entered. We're 2/3 of the way in 1 week. Certainly not "good old days" rate, but not too shabby.

I would say it's the limited player pool that makes this more difficult than the cap. I once did a 35 million no rookie league, and while it was tough getting the minutes, having access to everyone made it easier than this. It doesn't help that WIS provides zero filters for the parameters of this league, and even Basketballreference has nothing for small schools, international and high school w/o a serious workaround. Makes the search process long and cumbersome.

Still it's a great idea and I hope it fills. But like Ben I'm probably out.
EXACT player pool as last season, PLUS schools (other than the exceptions) get to add DOUBLE the "help".

Don't let a League that requires a little effort and less than "perfect" rosters scare you away. You'll miss the competition and a chance to support your favorite school.

tangplay has taken Georgia Tech.

They, along with Kentucky, are no longer available for additional use.

Took me literally 20 minutes to make a team of high schoolers. With LeBron. Moses. Howard. And Blatche. Very Balanced and I think will be competitive. I'll go ahead and Enter Them.

Thank you, sir. All checks. I had made a team of HSers myself, and didn't use a single exact season you did. With that many players, there are tons of possibilities for a competitive team.

"WHAT IF you had a league with an extremely low cap & an extremely limited player pool so that you could see very few if any of your favorite players on the court together..."

That's how some people see leagues like this.  If it ain't their cup of tea, let them go/miss out.  It'll fill as is, just like it did last year.  And every year you've run it.  I understand that you're trying to challenge people and appeal to their competitive spirit, but some might see it as you insulting them, which is a quick way to guarantee they don't ever join any of your leagues.  Either way, good luck to everyone involved.

Certainly not trying to insult anyone. Simply trying to respond to the concerns of some so that others don't take those concerns to heart.

Plenty of room for a SIM Legend such as yourself to join us. It's been quite a long time since you've participated in one of these, hasn't it?

If people don't want to join this version (or any League), I wish they'd just ignore the thread. If they honestly believe they have a "better" way to do things and hope the Commish will change directions, they should use site-mail, not the Classifieds.

I've never done a college league, actually.  My favorite school is almost always banned, so I rarely even open the threads.  I'll tinker around with it, but I generally like leagues with a wider player pool to choose from, so no promises.
