Progressive Franchise Twist

'76-'77, '77-'78, '78-'79 versus '85-'86, '86-'87, '87-'88

Gentlemen, the Progressive Franchise Twist league is a league where you select any franchise any "twist" any of the players to any season of their career (regardless of the team they played for) that appeared on your chosen roster for the timeframe we are playing. I chose to start this league off with the season of '76-'77(+ '77-'78, '78-'79) as it was the first season after the ABA-NBA merger. One conference will be ANY TWELVE TEAMS from '76/'77-'78/'79, the other conference will be ANY TWELVE TEAMS from '85/'86-'87/'88. Now we will only play this idea if the owners prefer this one over the original league ('88/'89-'90-'91). This league however gives many more options. Plus we get to try out older teams that the original theme league idea wouldn't lend us b/c the NBA was smaller. Next season will be '79-'80, '80-'81, '81-'82 versus '88-'89, '89-'90, '90-'91 and so on.

Rules:

*47 million dollar cap. Makes all franchises viable, plus-wise if you want to splurge on a huge Jordan year, good luck with the rest of your roster. Gotta draft a balanced roster in essence.

*Waiver wire is in use.Could be handy if at some point you realize you made a gaffe during the season during drafting. Only players applicable via drafting for your team available to you.

*No rookies, or clones.Draft a bench gentlemen.

*Here is the essential tool you will need:http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/

*Please keep team name accurate. Also please use the arena your franchise CURRENTLY uses. EX:Boston Celtics, New Jersey Nets, etc. Also name your team the team name of THE CURRENT franchise. EX:Oklahoma City Thunder, Washington Wizards. Sorry to be a stickler, this was just part of my vision for this league.

I am going to admin to see if we can have some sort of GC awarded to the returning(every new owner is automatically eligible and everyone is eligible in the 1st season) owner with the same franchise with the best win-% improvement by their team over each 3 season stretch we play. Gives owners of teams without big name stars another reason to try out a franchise and/or stick with their franchise each season given the peaks and valleys of every franchise (I created this same theme for baseball and admin did indeed agree to award a $10 GC each season, so I think they'll play ball).

no way a 37 mil cap is going to work well for this league....i don't know if you have played basketball since the last update, but 47 Mil is the new 42 Mil.  It isn't just a challenge to build this team at 37 Mil, it would not be fun....I would play it at 47 maybe 42.

Yeah, I was thinking that myself.  My initial thought was to keep the cap low so every team every season was viable.  But $37mil just seems too low.  I created a few dummy teams last night and was left thinking the same thing.  Pluswise, there is a multitude of options AND hopefully the GC from admin to keep the lower tier squads viable.  I like $47mil, consider it done.

Thank you for the input malone9975.

Also, I tried this league one time before.  It got 1/3rd of the way full and ultimately didn't take.  I am trying it again because I really like the concept and I hope this fills.  This keeps realism, with a touch of a progressive league, plus adds theme league flair with the twisting.

50+ teams ash, there's another team out there that can run with those 76ers.  I was actually spit-balling the 76-79 Clippers of all teams.  The post on that option is bonkers (Moses Malone, Bob McAdoo, Marvin Barnes, Swen Nater, Kermit Washington, George T. Johnson) a couple of good scorers (Adrian Dantley, Lloyd "World B." Free) and a decent PG (Brian Taylor, Randy Smith).  No big assist guys I see (Chuck WIlliams is reasonable I think if you had a slew of guys with a handful of dimes), but there certainly are a few guys who can hit the 3 (Free, Taylor & Smith all have usable seasons in this format where they hit 70+ 3's) and a bunch of role players who hit a higher rate of treys (DiGregorio, Claude Terry, Jim Price, Ted McClain).  You can make a contender.  WIth the Clippers.  From the 70's.

There's plenty of big fish

I considered the 80's Rockets, but couldn't pass on that Sixers squad.

Yeah I almost did that, but Olajuwon is a tough guy to build a team around.  If you take him you almost need an extra 400 mins at Center for all of the foul trouble he would get in.  Olajuwon's highest scoring game was 50 in the 89-90 season against the Nuggets and he fouled out in overtime (I was at the game, it isn't like I hold that info in my head randomly).  So you end up needing to draft a team with 20k mins.
