54mil "It's Who Ya Know" league (FULL) Topic

I expect I'm in at either cap level.  Most of the players I've experimented with building around do pretty well at $57 mil.

I would like to be IN with Scottie Pippen

well if you're just wanting to throw around a bunch of HoF'ers, then that's cool.  If you want to build good teams that make the most of the salary cap, then whatever.

well, what if you build a team that does both?

If the cap is at $57 mil, I'll take Steve Kerr. If it's at $52 mil, then I'll take Robert Parish.

I am in at either cap level, but I thought we were going to do this at 52 Mil, and I prefer 52.  Too many excess minutes.

67 Wilt, 09 Murphy, 92 Rodman, 90 Jordan, 09 Lebron
There's no way you're going to build a team that good in this theme, and that lineup allowed me tons of money to spend on a bench (Magic & Dampier were pretty much all I needed).  edit - this was for the $57M open league.
But if yall wanna do $57M, that's cool with me.  I may reneg on Shaq, but I'm not making any decisions yet.

Im with 57...imo-league rules should be set before reg begins, unless it is something officially up for vote

Haha, well I drafted what I think is a pretty darn good team based around Pippen for a 57 mil cap - had spent 55.5 mil on 19200 minutes before adding scrubs. I'm sure I could adjust to 52 - enough seasons to choose from to make it work - but it's certainly possible to build a very good 57 mil team, IMO. Obv whatever the majority of the league wants to do is fine, just pointing out that it is possible to build a highly effective 57 mil team w/ these rules (and the right starting player, of course)

I'm good either way...just my two cents!

no offense, heel, but any team featuring Pippen in it with the current engine doesn't get my vote for a very good team, no matter what the cap.  Unless you're using a low-minute season of him and not really important in the rotation.  Then I'm merely 'meh' about it.

Anyway, yeah, you can build a good team around $57M.  There's just going to be a lot of wasted money on something (whether it's minutes or usage, I don't care, take your pick).  Let me give you an example.

I have Shaq.  I could do the following with him:

C Shaq
PF Mourning
SF Rodman
SG Kobe (or Pierce, who I like even more)
PG Lebron

That uses a lot of salary AND gives me a lot of what I need... but it also gives me waaaay too much usage.  Change Mourning to a rotation of good rebounders who have lower usage and I still have more usage than I'll ever need.  Lebron is the best PG in the sim, so I'm not taking him out  (no Jason Kidd ties or I would consider using one of his last two seasons).  I'm not using a dumbed down season of Shaq (and even then, he will have high usage).  So now it's say good-bye to Kobe.  Even if I replace him with a 4th tier (17.5-22.1) usage player, I'm still going to have redundant possessions.  And I don't want to have a higher usage guy in that slot taking away from the godliness Lebron or Shaq will bring on offense.

The only thing good you can do by overbuying minutes is to do the old glitch trick... play guys way more minutes per game than they should be able to play and then rest them, but in this case you won't have scrubs to back them up.

Also, the higher the cap, there's more potential for an unbalanced league.  Lowering the cap makes more players usable and winnable with.

It's all good, though, do whatever you want to with it.

See, this is what I'm talking about:  Waaaay too much usage.  You won't be getting the most out of any of those four scorers with all four on the floor together.  Kareem hurts that squad.
