In the meantime, I'll amuse myself with some unsolicited, half-baked commentaries on the teams-in-progress, starting with these first two.
empdenied: Michael Jordan, Dennis Rodman, Robert Parish
I can’t argue with the Jordan pick. He played with a combination of skill, confidence and competitive fire that I’ve never seen before. Kobe comes close at times. Magic and Bird had the confidence and fire, but different and somewhat less skill. Rodman makes sense here. Even though this isn’t sim-land and his minutes were limited in most of his peak seasons, he was arguably the best rebounder ever and one of the best defenders of his day. A fine compliment to a do-it-all superstar like Jordan. I’m indifferent to the Parish pick. His consistency and longevity make sense for this league format, but his peak wasn’t very high given where he was selected and higher-impact centers are still on the board. This team needs a lot still (number two scorer, a playmaker, some shooting…).
malone9975: Chris Paul, Larry Bird, Kevin McHale
I’m liking this squad so far. Explosive, creative scoring with Paul’s penetration, Bird’s open floor wizardry and McHale’s innovations in the paint. These guys are all smart and selfless enough to play to each other’s strengths. All of them are good to great team defenders in their primes. The offense is largely taken care of. It should be all high-level role players from here on out. (I can think of some available centers who would be awesome fits, and there’s no shortage of shooting guards with the right skills to plug in with this crew.)
