well...Bob Cousy is still on the board

I wasnt gonna pick him because of the whole...you know...shooting 37% thing. But he is considered an all-time great so I figured I can probably talk myself into the pick by reading simmons write up about him in his book. Bill doesn't hold back on being a complete homer here but he did a pretty convincing job...check it out again if you have the book.

6 time champion. He gives me the floor leader the team needed. I'm hoping Manu and the coaches can teach him the pick and roll, but he should be an expert at setting up Wilt and Baylor in some classic 60s offensive sets and his youtube clips tell me he could really boost this teams fast break game. Apparently he was also a good defender...I don't really know. I guess the main reason I'm picking him is that Simmons reminded me of that scene in Blue Chips when he drains all those free throws in a row. You guys wants longevity right? Basically, he was the best guard of his era and knew how to win...that's good enough for me.

Wait wait wait... let me get this straight.

First, you missed the entire point of the Glen Rice comment.
Then, you show your complete ignorance of John Havlicek's defensive ability.

Sooooo... I'm not sure why I'm staying involved in this thing since the founder obviously thinks Worthy is a better defender than John Havlicek - LMFAO!

Olajuwon-Ewing-Worthy-Kidd... greatest defense in this league?  It's ridiculous that I even wasted my time responding to you.

Again, I have to say, you live in some fantasy world where Ewing is a bad mother ****** & James Worthy is a defensive stopper.  I mean... seriously... rofl

Need someone to crash the boards and this guy does a helluva job. He is also known for his outlet passes to start the break, which is just what we need.

Wes Unseld

Sorry,, no bold on iPad

damn gary..such a good pick.

If he made it around to me that was going to be my backup PF/C

I was stunned ol' Wes was still on the board.  I figured you'd spot him, though, gary.  Perfect for Magic and Wilkins.

Once snydpie picks, I've got sappy's proxy.

I really can't believe he was still on the board. I was wavering between Wes and another center but decided on big Wes for all of those things I mentioned. He can set really good picks, too and is a great team player/leader. (Just don't let him make any front office decisions!)

"I know that night in and night out the guy I play against will have more physical ability, but I feel like if I go out against a guy and play him 40 or 48 minutes a game or whatever, toe to toe, head to head, he is going to get tired or beat up or bored for two or three minutes. That will be enough to make sure he doesn't win the game for his team." – Unseld to the Washington Post

On his outlet passing and fast break style of the old Bullets:

''Some nights it's hard to decide whether it's a blessing or a frustration to be on a team working the fast break like we do. I get sometimes so I feel I'm spending all night running up and down the floor ... only to find that Archie Clark or Elvin Hayes or Phil Chenier has already taken a shot and that the ball is already dropping through the net.... It's like commuting to an office every morning, running to catch the train and always getting to the depot just as it chugs down the track without you. A guy's got to be a little psycho to do this over and over again for 48 minutes a night--and also dedicated to doing a job. Fortunately, I'm both."

imahobbit:  Paul Pierce, Lebron James, Dave DeBusschere, Moses Malone

It’s pretty hard to argue with this squad.  Moses will clean the glass and get his points inside, and DD provides defensive toughness.  You don’t want DeBusschere shooting a lot because of his lower efficiency, but he won’t get many touches with this crew.  The presence of Lebron provides nice flexibility in choosing a point guard, who can basically be a shooter and secondary playmaker.  On the other hand, you don’t want someone who will hog the ball, or who is a matador on defense since the frontcourt lacks an intimidating shotblocker.

steelers821: Steve Nash, Julius Erving, Karl Malone, Alonzo Mourning
This team has been growing on me.  The strategy of pairing two high-octane, high-usage scorers at the forward spots rarely works, and I do think there’s a chance the Doc and Mailman get in each other’s way, but Nash’s presence leads me to assume this team will be running a lot rather than packed around the paint.  Nash is a good choice to space the floor and get everyone the ball in their favorite spots.  Mourning will need to be happy settling in as the fourth option on offense.  The backcourt really needs a stopper more than anything.  What I think I like best about this team so far is that none of these guys are head cases.  They will all show up to win and leave their guts on the floor.

all3:
Derek Harper, Ray Allen, Charles Barkley, Artis Gilmore
You gotta like the inside-outside balance, with Allen providing room for the big guys to operate.  Barkley is mobile enough that he should be able to stay out of Artis’ way.  I expect those two to give up a lot of fouls on defense, though.  Harper is unspectacular and might have been available a round later, but he’s the kind of glue this team needs – steady playmaking and decent defense.  He’s not a marksman but will drop a 3 now and then to keep defenses honest.  He also needs to be a coach on the floor to keep Chuck’s head on straight. This is obviously Barkley’s team and he has the talent to make noise in this league but was an impetuous knucklehead at times who is a threat to go ballistic and get himself tossed.

jayharvill:  Gary Payton, Tracy McGrady, Ben Wallace, David Robinson
I like this team, with great defense inside and out and plenty of scoring.  Wallace is a great choice since he doesn’t need to ball and Payton won’t settle for anything less the #3 option (if that) – I’ll buy the argument that Ben can play PF.  Actually, Payton might be the biggest post-up threat on this team, since prime Admiral really like to face the basket.  Looks like a possible contender to me, as long as the SG fits in well.

I didn't say Worthy or Baylor were better defensive players than Havlicek. I was saying Havlicek needed to stay at SF cuz you needed a SG who could defend the point so that Havlicek could guard the best offensive wings which is his specialty so you should've taken Baylor or Worthy instead cuz if you have Magic you need guys who can finish the fast break which Baylor & Worthy are perfect for! Then get your SG that would compliment Magic and Baylor or Worthy later in the draft. It's your team so do what you want. I just don't see Magic defending PG's since he couldn't do it in the NBA so I know he can't do it in this league. Then you defeated the purpose of having Havlicek! Who is Nique going to defend? Your offense is going to be great but defensively you will have to deal with a few mismatches for sure.

I need a SG with shooting range and this guy was the greatest shooter with the best shooting range ever. He could also run the point with his flamboyant ball handlin skills and incredible passing ability and was incredible in the open court or half court. He is the perfect compliment to my team also giving me flexibility with my next 3 picks. He gives me incredible shooting, passing, scoring, and he was a solid defensive player with length who got alot of steals. A 50 greatest player who knocks down shots comin out the locker room with ease.

The Most Flamboyant Player Ever:

Pistol Pete Maravic

So I have to talk up my Rick Barry pick a little, since, well everyone hates the guy.  Doesn't mean he wasn't one of the best ever.  35ppg 2nd year in the league?!  Timmy and Chauncey will have to keep him in check.

Led the NCAA in scoring in 1964–65 (973 points, 37.4 ppg)
Led the NBA in scoring in 1966–67 (2,775 points, 35.6 ppg)
Led the ABA in scoring in 1968–69 (1,190 points; 34.0 ppg)
55 points in a Finals game tied only by Jordan.

His advanced stats look almost identical to Kobe Bryant.  ie 48% efg, 15% creb, 17% assist 2.2% stl.

Court vision and competitive drive second to none.  Terrific passer for a SF (perhaps the best ever at that position).
But yes, he was a *****.  Although often it didn't actually seem to be intentional.  MJ & Kobe aren't teddy bears either.

If anyone wants to leave me a proxy pick I'm free the next 4-5 hours

Everyone has such great players it's really hard to say who has the best team especially when there are players we've never seen play before. There's only 1 or 2  teams so far I don't think could seriously compete for a championship but the rest are pretty equal for sure. It comes down to matchups, chemistry, talent, and heart which every team has great talent. The rest we're just throwin darts blindfolded. It's been fun and I don't mean to offend anyone I just have my own opinions just like everyone else. It's all good!

Waiting on ash.  I see a couple players available who would fit just about perfectly on his squad.
