Hmmm.  Several ways I want to go here.  I think I'm going to get a 6-9 guy that made the all defense 1st team for many years in a row, shoots a high fg%, is an NBA champion and attended my favorite school, UNC.

Bobby Jones

Wait wait wait... let me get this straight.

First, you missed the entire point of the Glen Rice comment.
Then, you show your complete ignorance of John Havlicek's defensive ability.

Sooooo... I'm not sure why I'm staying involved in this thing since the founder obviously thinks Worthy is a better defender than John Havlicek - LMFAO!

Olajuwon-Ewing-Worthy-Kidd... greatest defense in this league?  It's ridiculous that I even wasted my time responding to you.

Again, I have to say, you live in some fantasy world where Ewing is a bad mother ****** & James Worthy is a defensive stopper.  I mean... seriously... rofl
I didn't say Worthy or Baylor were better defensive players than Havlicek. I was saying Havlicek needed to stay at SF cuz you needed a SG who could defend the point so that Havlicek could guard the best offensive wings which is his specialty so you should've taken Baylor or Worthy instead cuz if you have Magic you need guys who can finish the fast break which Baylor & Worthy are perfect for! Then get your SG that would compliment Magic and Baylor or Worthy later in the draft. It's your team so do what you want. I just don't see Magic defending PG's since he couldn't do it in the NBA so I know he can't do it in this league. Then you defeated the purpose of having Havlicek! Who is Nique going to defend? Your offense is going to be great but defensively you will have to deal with a few mismatches for sure.
I don't have any of those players on my team, fyi.

At a crossroads here, with several possible directions to take.  I need a glue player who can provide steady leadership.  This guy is one of the best perimeter defenders ever, can play either guard position, can score but is selfless, and blends nicely with my athletic, versatile wingmen.  Larry Bird called him the best teammate he ever had...

Dennis Johnson.

DJ can put up points when called upon, but his main appeal is in knowing how to fit into and merge his strengths with a team of stars.  He'll know right away that this is Shaq's team first and Clyde's second, and he'll set them up right.  He's a champion with two different franchises, and brings a reputation as both a clutch player and defensive stopper.

My bench will include a more traditional point, but with facilitators like Pippen and Drexler I don't need a top-notch distributor in the starting lineup.  It's a good sign that Drexler, no slouch, is my weakest defender.  Also, this group can fly on the fast break.  Prime Shaq and Kemp bombing down the court at full speed, with Drexler covering behind, will be a serious handful for opponents.

The chief wrinkle in my team right now is the lack of a full-time deep threat.  Scottie and Glide starting putting up threes with reasonable efficiency as their games matured, but I'll need a marksman or two coming off the bench.

That's going to be the chief weakness of most teams here.  Let's face it... not many of the all-time greats were bombers.  The ones that were traditionally have terrible holes in their games (Ray & Reggie - defense?).

If you look at some of the greatest teams in history, they weren't built around having a bomber always out there... but they did bring sharpshooters off the bench when needed (Hodges, Armstrong on the first 3 bulls title teams, kerr on the 2nd set.  Fisher started on those Laker teams but was not a 35mpg player; The 80s teams didn't really utilize the three very much as the game was faster and relied more on transition than halfcourt spacing).

I need a SG with shooting range and this guy was the greatest shooter with the best shooting range ever. He could also run the point with his flamboyant ball handlin skills and incredible passing ability and was incredible in the open court or half court. He is the perfect compliment to my team also giving me flexibility with my next 3 picks. He gives me incredible shooting, passing, scoring, and he was a solid defensive player with length who got alot of steals. A 50 greatest player who knocks down shots comin out the locker room with ease.

The Most Flamboyant Player Ever:

Pistol Pete Maravic

Most Flamboyant Player Ever.  Yeah I see that.  Especially if you consider a world without Dennis Rodman, but I guess you would only know about that if you followed the Detroit Pistons...oh wait you are a Rockets and Pistons fan..hmm.  Charles Barkley was kinda flamboyant.  So was John Amaechi for an entirely different reason.  There is a better SG on the board though.  Much better.

Vinsanity.

He may come off the bench in a Manu type of role.

That was exactly my thinking.  I looked hard at three other, more recent players who were good to great long-range shooters, but all were mediocre defenders and one was a reckless chucker at times.

I think Allen's D is underrated.  Until Boston, he played on teams that gave up a lot of points, so he was labeled a poor defender.  With his length, athleticism, and desire, there's no way he's not above average, and I think he's proven that the last several years.

none of my business (and I've bitten my tongue on several comments from the peanut gallery already) but ask Kobe about Ray's D

Do we ask Kobe before or after he goes 6/24...I'm confused?

Was very close to picking him instead of KJ but I felt I still neede some scoring. Also bounced around the idea of AI as the point and picking a bomber. But like previously discussed there was not a bomber that brought more to the table than just threes. There was one other SG than was tempting with AI being the point.

Jerry Lucas
3 time NBA first team
Averaged over 20 rebounds in two seasons (only 4 players ever averaged more than 20 rebounds in a season)
4th on all time rebounds per game list

I'd think you'd probably get a more considered opinion from him after that
