Last Chance-Draft starts Today!! Topic

We need 1 replacement owner for a  double season progressive that started with the 1967/68 & 1968/69 seasons, the first two years of the ABA. This is the era of Wilt, Baylor, Robertson, Dave Bing, Earl Monroe etc.

We had 18 different owners for season 1 as 6 owners took 2 teams each. 17 of these owners will be returning. One of the owners not returning is scottyboy4, who had 2 teams and has disappeared from many Sim League Baseball and Basketball leagues. In addition 2 of the other owners with 2 teams wish to reduce to one team. 3 owners, including myself, will retain both their teams (Owners with 2 teams are not permitted to make trades between their 2 teams). This accounts for the 5 openings. Rosters for the 5 teams available will be posted below.

The first season has been very successful and enjoyable. There are 3 days left in the first season and we will then be able to set the draft order and draft for season 2. The double season format assures rapid turnover of player (a player with a 10 year career will only have 5 seasons in this league), so that teams with losing records should be able to improve rapidly. This second season's rookies include Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Nate Archibald, Dave Cowens, Bob Dandridge, Spencer Haywood, Dan Issell, Bob Lanier, Pete Maravich, Calvin Murphy, Rudy Tomjanovich, Norm Van Lier and Jo-Jo White among others. There will be a 4 round draft for available players (about 90-95% of whom are rookies). There will also be a waiver round following the draft for owners needing to replace more than 4 players. As noted below, there will be plenty of minutes available.

Owners expressing interest will be given temporary access to our private forum, which contains full league rules, a list of available players for the second season, and which is where the draft will be held.

This second season you will be able to select which of 2 seasons you want to use for each of your players (assuming they are active both seasons). This season you may use 1969/70 or 1970/71, the following season 1971/72 or 1972/73 etc.

One concern expressed prior to the start of our first season was whether there would be sufficient minutes available. That proved to be a non-issue. A minimum of 19,680 minutes are required and teams averaged around 23,000 minutes. My 2 teams had 29,000 + and 27,000 + minutes.

Rather than managing teams with recent players this is an opportunity to manage teams from an older era.

No rookies, no WW. Trades of players OK and draft picks current season only.

Drafts subsequent to the initial draft will be in inverse order of regular season record, with the tiebreaker being total point differential (points scored less points allowed) with the team with the worse point differential drafting earlier. However, as an anti-tanking provision for the 1st round only there will be a weighted lottery among the 4 teams with the worst record for the first 4 draft positions. The same tiebreaker will be used for these positions.

Since this is a progressive league I do request that you not sign up unless you expect to be able to particpate for at least 5 seasons.

If interested please sign up below and you will be given access to the private forum.. If desiring further information indicate below and you will be given temporary access to the private forum.

Team #4 is the Phoenix Suns, scottyboy4's other team. The Suns are 31-44 4th in the Pacific Division. Note that Jackson, Swagerty, Rhine, Branson and Rayl retire after season 1 and will have to be replaced in the draft. However, there will be a strong nucleus in the returning players.

Beaty, Clark, Bradley and Barnett will be the nucleus. One starter and 2-3 good bench players are needed to make a competitive club. Ther should be plenty of talent in the draft !!

what teams are still available... just the suns squad?
10/25/2011 10:44 PM
Yes just the Suns. As noted above Nate Archibald was taken in round 1 of the draft and Neal Walk was just taken in round 2. Round 3 is tomorrow. If you are interested, I will contact the owner who was willing to take the Suns as a 2nd team. I think he would probably be willing to bow out. You could make the selections in rounds 3 & 4 of the draft and your 5th pick in the waiver draft. Let me know ASAP.
