God Forbid, you try and "change" the rules (when something isn't even covered) but people urinate all over the rules and that's fine.

SpotSell posted 29 minutes after fatboydad54, he DID NOT miss his pick.  If he doesn't make a selection in 4 hours I will choose for him.
I agree with this.  Seems lame that Spotsell just couldn't pick a scrub and just move the draft along

No more rule manipulation please

Very chicken shittish by spotsell

Seriously, you are a better owner than this spotsell......... c'mon!

I am sorry, but no making up rules as we go along.  I made my choice, and forfeit another 500,000 in salary.  I specifically brought this up at the bottom of page 10 of this thread.

You may either wait till tomorrow afternoon or let the next guy pick now.  As a courtesy, I made my intention known quickly.

How I was going to handle the situation was in the original rules you all read (skimmed over). To me, there's no one great way to handle it. Sure, if you don't like your pick you could just wait 24 hours. (I would hope you wouldn't) But there is the 500 K fine which, trust me, is substantial, especially if you start thinking about it doing it more than once. And there certainly is no guarantee you're going to get a better player later on when most are just basically rounding out their roster. Besides that, I'm pretty confident specsman was not intentionally trying to miss his pick.

I'm torn here, because there are plenty of viable options for SpotSell to choose here.  But if I pick for him, we're going to have owners crying about changing the rules. (When something covering this was clearly never even in the rules.  If something is not in the rules how the hell can that be changing the rules)  But, I feel like SpotSell is just upset because he got penalized last round, with what several of you don't even consider much of a penalty and now he's trying to take advantage of a loophole in the rules by getting back to back picks at the end.

To me "skipping a pick" is the exact definition of "making up rules as we go along".

So, waiting 24 hours IS an option.

I vote to make an amendment to that rule.

All late picks will have a $500K cap.

So waiting 24 hours IS still an option but not an attractive one.

Even the U.S. constitution had to be amended.

The ironic and truly twisted thing about all this is that the 24 hour rule was only added late to ensure the draft ran smoother.  I'll admit to everyone that I screwed up this rule, but I honestly didn't think it would be an issue.  I'm going to send out a sitemail shortly asking you to vote on the best option moving forward.

INTENTIONALLY missing a pick should never be an option.
specsman missed his pick due to a health issue. D-A-M-N good reason as far as I am concerned.
What you are doing now is bending the rules to your benefit.
A $500,000 penalty for the 1st missed pick is fine if it truly is a MISSED pick.
What you are trying to do is SKIP your pick.......... that is NOT the same thing as a MISSED pick.

Only half of "uncleal" here right now, but I have to concur with bheid. We've tanked picks on 200k scrubs when we didn't like the board (see: Carillo, Matias and Luna, Hector) because it's not like a team doesn't need 200k. Picking 200k is strategically a better pick than forfeiting 500k for the 26th round when you probably have a full team anyway... this definitely violates the spirit of the rules.

Ultimately, there isn't a perfect rule set. Even if we had anticipated every problem before the draft... to not have a 24-hour clock means that we could wait days in between picks. That's the only reason the rule is there. I think there's an implied commitment to playing the game right. This is baseball, not a lawyer fest.

It's my strategy - having two consecutive picks - may - be very beneficial.  I would really like 3-4 in a row.  Missing a pick was laid out in the original rules.  I really don't see an issue.  However, in the spirit of brotherhood, I will make a pick tonight, if I may please have Jeff Cirillo (thanks pg99, who couldn't wait one more minute) and am not penalized in the cap.  Now that solution would be just.

Isn't it great "in the spirit of brotherhood" how someone always has to try to cheat. Now you are trying to make a pick that you missed 1 whole round ago. And in the process are blaming pg99 for picking TOO SOON even after he waited the 24 hours like he was suppose to.
