I think that my team will have the lowest total salary (which is why I was rooting for alignment based on salary).  I will be around $120M, which includes $9M+ of just pinch hitters.

I will have spent about $64 m for 1830 IP s -- 1300 in my rotation and 530 in the bullpen. another $80 m for 7140 PA s Including a platoon at 5 positions.

I'm at $140+ million. That is using George McQuillan and his '08 season. Might switch him to his '07 season which is $10M less. Not sure yet.

I am with Schwarze for alignment based on salary. My team sits at 127.3 million and I would not like to be aligned with teams with a significantly greater salary. Looks like random alignment has won out though so I hope my Turner Field squad can compete. Anyone know what type of team works best with Turner Field?

I voted random alignment for three reasons. 1) We have all had the same opportunities to have a very high salary team (and I say this sitting at $123 million right now with my starting lineup + 7 million on the bench + an almost complete pitching staff). 2) I don't think that team salary is a true reflection of each teams ability. Depending on how you handle your bench, you could end up with a $180 million in salary, but only $120-130 of which is going to be used in any given game. I personally am looking for upgrades at positions, so I very well could end up with high salary players on the bench. I would be penalized by using this strategy if alignment is based on salary. 3) The rule in the original post said random realignment. Had it been changed before the picks started, I would have been fine with it. But knowing that salary would impact your chief competition would have changed the types of players I went after, especially in regards to what I have playing behind my starters.

I am not saying that I am right, just explaining why I voted the way I did.

When the dust settles, I expect to be around $125m excluding my bench, and I am guessing most teams will fall in that range. I missed the vote, but prefer random alignment. I think it will all come out in the wash in the end.

I voted random, too.  The last time I played this league was the same format with the entire database of players available.  We were aligned by total team salary, and the highest salaried teams were clearly not the best teams.  They were actually among the worst teams overall.  Most of their high salary was due to having full-time bench players and way too many IP.  The "best" teams were fairly well spread-out between the other leagues and divisions, and total team salary had nothing to do with that.

Agree totally

For the record, if there's anybody at around $55M, I would prefer to be placed in their division.

I've got 21 players rostered so I need five picks total. I'll get the new picks in this morning.
10/21/2015 8:28 AM
I'm in.  If I get the last 4 players then my entire team salary will be $116.2M
10/21/2015 10:10 AM

My team is complete at $127 million. It's higher than the anticipated because I decided at the last minute to go with an unnecessary $7M starting pitcher (Braxton) instead of a $1.5M short-inning reliever with a sub 0.90 whip.  I wanted to make sure I had more than enough innings (1769)..

My starting lineup (all full-timer players)
C - '33 Cochrane .322, .459, .515
1B - '86 Anson  .371, .433, .544
2B - '13 Carpenter  .318, .392, .481
3B - ''09 Sandoval  .330, .387, .556
SS - '49 Stephens  .290, .391, 539
OF - '15 Cravath  .285, .393, .510
OF - '04 Abreu  .301, .428, ..544
OF - '44 Galan  .318, .426, .495

Pinch Hitters
'85 Cedeno  .434, .463, .750
'98 Spencer  .373, .411, .910
'16 McCarty  .397, .453, .559
'95 Haney  .411, .463, 603

Starting Pitchers (IP, ERA, WHIP, HR/9)
'68 Gibson  305, 1.12, 0.85, 0.32
'06 D.White  236, 1.52, 0.90, 0.08
'85 L.Baldwin  269, 1.86, 0.92, 0.10
'28 G.Braxton 230, 2.51, 1.01, 0.29
'81 Righetti  160, 2.05, 1.07, 0.09

Relievers
'67 Carlos  42, 0.86, 0.77, 0.00
'15 W.Davis  67, 0.94, 0.79, 0.40
'16 J.Benz  150, 2.03, 0.99, 0.00
'01 Pineiro  76, 2.03, 0.94, 0.24
'11 Fister  70, 1.79, 0.84, 0.51
'87 D.Alexander  89, 1.53, 1.01, 0.31
'84 Searage  39, 0.70, 0.94, 0.00
'10 Thatcher  35, 1.29, 0.86, 0.26

Batting Totals: 5804 PA, .322, .414, .534  (very pedestrian for a no-cap league)
Pitching Totals:  1769 IP, 1.67 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 0.20 HR/9

Interesting.

I looked at my current team (assuming I get all 4 remaining picks) and have lines of...

5748 PA, .360 AVG, .426 OBP, .527 SLG
1537 IP, .193 OAV, 0.95 WHIP, 0.32 HR/9
