If you acquired Wagner as a Pitt outfielder and he was not a WC, you should be able to use his of eligible seasons at any position you want, including ss. If he is a wc at ss you would still get to use his of eligible seasons and play him at ss if you choose. However, the guy who drafts Pitt ss wouldn't be able to use him at all.The only logical reason for specifying the position of a wild cards is to clarify which team loses the rights to him. It doesn't.mean that team can continue to use him at a secondary position. What a nightmare tryng to police this across 5 Leagues to be sure they are never used at their wild card position
if both Yankee of and first basemen had been chosen but neither player protected Ruth, then the person choosing Ruth as a wild card would determine which player lost their right to use him. The other player would keep their rights to him and use him where ever they want. In our draft, Ruth is not a wc, only protected as a Yankee outfielder, since Schwarze acquired him by drafting.a different position he should be able to use him where ever he wants. I know I plan to use Musial at 1b I if the need arises, even though he is also "protected" at that position by another player.
I am assuming once a player+ franchise is protected by anyone, he is off limits as a wild card pick, so it is not necessary for both teams who drafted him on a particular franchise to protect him. So Schwarze doesn't need to protect 1b Ruth, and I don't need to protect of Musial because they were protected by other players.
For example, I choose Chipper Jones as a Braves 3b, so by my understanding of the rules someone who drafts Braves ss would acquire the right to use him in any of his ss eligible seasons, but they could choose to play him at third base if they want to. But the team that drafts Braves 3b couldn't use him at all.
