Interesting to see the bidding so far...I think the Dbacks starting pitching unit ended up being a bit of a bargain. They only have 3 usable starters this year, and only one with any kind of future value, but the Unit could handsomely repay that investment with his next few years of strikeout crowns and possibly a Cy or two. I sort of meant to keep bidding on it, and got distracted and missed the 24-hr deadline.

I think that's right that it was a bit of a bargain. It's hard to properly price in the bonuses. That's part if what makes this league a good challenge.

I'm thrilled with how my pitching turned out. I wasn't even planning on making a serious run at ARI and Johnson. And then I easily solved the need for a fourth SP by landing the ATL relief squad. Looks like jumping out of the gate early was the right move. Makes up for maybe overpaying on my ANA IF unit. Though if you really look at what's out there I think I bought a top ten unit. Time will tell. Can't believe I already have three fifths of my team.

And, on the other end of the spectrum, I haven't even placed a bid yet.  It's interesting to see how a single star skews the bidding on an otherwise ho-hum unit.

Damn, I was literally minutes away from getting the Braves SPs...

Brutal crazyjoe, but anything less than 50 mil for ATL is a complete steal.

I wonder how much of a premium people will put on stadium factors... The extreme parks like San Diego, Colorado etc. all come with crappy catchers... This format is crazy, I've come so close to winning a few already, only to be outbid at the last minute...

I was wondering if stadium had some impact on my Varitek lot. I know he can't throw people out, and I didn't expect a huge bidding war, but I think it's a steal at $5M. Especially with a couple solid years from Hatteberg in there as well.

Well Fenway is the reason why I didn't bid on the Red Sox, even though the unit's stats are a bit better than the Angels lot that I got... We'll see how the rest of the auctions turn out...

I love your Boston C/DH unit for $5. I was thinking I got a deal on Atlanta's for $11 but now I think I might have overpaid.

Also liked my Boston OF for $6 but now I see the Cubs OF with Sosa selling for $5...

how do you get *outbid at the last minute*? - you have 24 hours to outbid the outbid.
10/22/2010 10:36 AM
When you lead for about 23 hours or so...

Would like some input here:
I just won the CWS OF unit with a bid of $21 mil, but I figured it would cost more because Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Lee are solid starters for pretty much the entire run of the league.  Am I misreading the temperature of the auction?  I can't imagine I got the deal of the century --- that NEVER happens to me.  So . . . why so low?
