I really doubt you'd be able to get good hitters that way, especially infield...the 6 infields (7 w/ this strategy) that would be left are not pretty.

I'd agree.  I think you'd end up with maybe 3 or 4 above average/good  players and a lot of garbage if you did that.  Your best case scenario would be to not have a train wreck season (somehow win more than 40 or so games) and have a lead moneywise going into 2001 free agency.  Even if that were to happen, I think you'd still be behind talent-wise and after that the income for other teams would more than make up the initial difference.

FYI 2 days ago I sent a sitemail to ping all of the owners who haven't been bidding, helmethead never opened his.

It might be smart to have a replacement lined up before it's too late if he never shows.

helmethead threw in a bid, albeit an ineligible one.

Someone who I think positioned himself very well is yogi. He splurged on the ATL pitching unit  (but not too much) and managed to fill his other four units for the bare minimum, without getting crap - the ARI catcher unit is middle-of-the-road, and I think both the Reds hitting units were relative bargains. He might wish now that he got a different bullpen than the Angels, but overall he's set himself up with a team that has a pretty good shot at making the playoffs in year one, will already start next season's free agency with 32 mil to spend, and has a few decent long-term players (especially at SP, but some solid batting seasons down the line as well). Well done.

Dean,  I sent helmethead a sitemail as well.  Let me know if he answers you back.  As far as yogi goes, it's maybe not the way I would have done it, but it looks like he had a plan and executed it, which often goes a long way.  As far as the playoffs go, it'd be hard to say without looking at the divisions (which haven't been made yet), but I agree that the 32 million could go a long way.  It's really interesting to see the various strategies taking place here.

On another note, how about that KC outfield?

Damon, Beltran, Dye . . . I knew they'd go high, but I didn't think any single unit would top $50M . . .

yeah, me either

i reckon we see something top 60... maybe 70.

Beltran and Damon are pretty good on defense most of the decade, and Dye had some monster years. And as a Royals fan, I've always wondered how things might have been different this last decade if this group were kept intact.

I predict the action starts heating up tomorrow.  I think we'll see some of these owners who have been sitting and watching jump into the fray.

I agree with this.  I would give him a chance to respond quickly, but with about 1/2 of the draft opened and some really key units coming up, I would say we should act soon.  The fact that he was so off with that invalid opening bid scares me too.  I don't mean to say anything bad about the owner, but there are a lot of red flags.  He is a newbie, he isnt opening his site mail, he hasn't posted any bids in a while and his one bid was way off.  I just don't see the type of dedication I would hope to see out of owners with a progressive starting up.

I would hate for this progressive to stall out of the gates because of this.  What does everyone think?

I'm going to give him a day or two.  I don't think it will come to this and I hope it doesn't, but I do have one person on the waiting list.  I think there are still enough good players out there that someone could come in and still put together a good team.

Can somebody help me with all the Brewers bids coming in?  Don't think I can keep track of them all.
